Fanta Touré is a Master 2 bioengineering student in Environmental Sciences and Technologies at Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech. She is doing her TFE in France at the Institut de recherche pour le développement (IRD) in Montpellier.
For her TFE, Fanta chose the theme of the phosphorus cycle and stoichiometric relationships in cereal-legume associations.
The phosphorus cycle, like that of water and carbon, is important for life on Earth, as phosphorus is used to form DNA, bones and shells. Fanta's job is to measure the exchange of phosphorus between cereals and legumes.
She will then be able to implement this in an existing model, MOMOS (for Micro-Organism and Soil Matter), which did not take the phosphorus cycle into account. This will enable us to measure the interactions between the three cycles: water, carbon and phosphorus.
f this topic is of great interest to Fanta, it's because it's very close to her professional project: using the principles and interactions of the carbon cycle to develop better environmental management and healthier agriculture.
