My good friend and fellow Milsurp collector Scott from friedgreen_milsurps on instagram brought a good looking K98k to the range. It was a Czech made mauser rifle that was actually made from WW2 spare parts and bought by Ethiopia. It has a stock disc, which is an Ethiopian symbol that has St. George slaying a dragon. This military surplus rifle is only available from Royal Tiger Imports currently.
I didnt want to like this rifle ar first but the stock was beautiful. He said he cleaned it up, and that’s what it looked like. The metal condition was not great but wans’t bad. I had to talk about this rifle because well it is unique in all aspects. So yea, this my short review of the Czech Mauser K98k Ethiopian contract. 😁

I was tempted to get one if their 400 b grade ones but knowing the gamble of bore condition has kept me from taking the plunge

Bought one two years ago. Rough on the outside, but a really nice bore. Saving it for my son George (St. George being his patron saint) and will give to him when he is old enough to hunt. We can finish out restoring it then if he chooses.

I have one. Got it when they first came in for something like $450. That said, mine is in very rough shape with virtually no bluing left, a questionable bore (fairly regular keyholing) and the stock was cracked at the wrist (which I repaired). This is ok, because they are so rare and i should be able to double my money a few years after RTI sells out of them, assuming i want to sell it. I find it funny that Ethiopia, a tropical/ desert East African country would want a winter trigger guard for their rifles.

I bought one full price early last year. Got a swp45 with a very very nice bore and a few waffens. Out of the half dozen or so things i got from them that ethiopian 98 was probably the nicest

For the sale price id say the parts alone are worth it. I got two of them from RTI and one had a pretty good bore and finish. The other had a worn out bore and was wirewheeled. As you said these are also great for reenactors who want to take a K98 out in the field they don't mind exposing to the elements. Though the stock and trigger guard may need to be replaced to pass for a wartime model. One of the Czech K98s I got had a wartime trigger guard vs the "winter" guard. For the sale price id say get one.

Mine actually just showed up in the mail today. I’ve not even had a chance to clean it yet. But it looks like a fun project.

I'm looking for a 1903 Swedish Mauser, 6.5x55.i used to have one and it was such a flat shooter and would reach out to 600 yards accurately, and a hand width spread at 150 yards with iron sights. It's a bit longer than the WW2 Mausers but i could load a lot of different bullets sizes down to a .556 and it would not tumble. We even had hollow points with that small caliber.

Hi from South Africa BC. I cant say i am a collector but i have purchased 4 Milsurp rifles in the last 18 months and my firt buy was a Mauser in 7x57. It is sporterised with a new barrel, shortened, so not true Milsurp but it is built on an original DWM Mauser action and if the serial number is anything to go by then 1899. However besides that, i bought it for a song, took it fr the calibre and the fact that it is an original Mauser action. I noticed your SKS behind your shoulder, Yugo? I have a Triangle 26 SKS, ex Rhodesian/Zimbabwe import to SA, 1966 production, a beaut.of a shooter. Thanks for your channel, keep well, keep safe, keep the powder dry and circle the wagons.

Way late on this video but it popped up. Ended up getting one of these about the time this video dropped, got it from jgsales though, not rti. Great shooting rifle, slick action, was in good shape and after a good cleaning (which really wasnt bad at all) i was left with exactly what i wanted from it, a nice german mauser that had some character, that didnt break the bank,and weirdly enough, compared to my roomates absolutely mint 1903a3 the action seemed slicker. Might just be the araenal refurb on the a3 that seemed like some sort of powder coat.
@BattlefieldCurator
@BattlefieldCurator 5 месяцев назад
Sounds like you got a nice one. If the import mark is IO Ordnance then it originally came from RTI.

I've never bought a RTI rifle but back iñ the day there was Mitchell Mausers bought a K98 Russia capture one an a Yugo M 48 all matching numbers even the bolt on the Russian one both looked almost new don't if they had been refurbished though some people said Mitchell did that
@BattlefieldCurator

That was allways a shaky proposition, k98K’s are priced really high, even when they have a sewerpipe for a barrel. Its hard to hand out $900+ on a gamble.
