The debate will continue. I think the main element is the potential to drive and to bring the sound into existence in the real world to be the subject of interferences, physics. I always make the analogy with the film, photography. It depends on what sound, mood, look you are looking for. Music is about mood. Summing in consoles and mixers can be maybe too much. Each channel will introduce notice from amps and all we know they are all noisy. The potential of infinite resolution in analog and no latency is the thing that I like. A summing box can be a way to maintain the natural phenomena against the trend to digitize the world. It happens that I build a few boxes for some willing to try for themselves. They are just about summing in the resistor network and they are a fraction of the cost. They can be used as well for parallel processing if fed backward. Total recall and the piece of mind that the sound is how is supposed to be and not a representation of an actual sound. Without spending a fortune you can have a summing box for 60 Pounds to play with. The connexions are made using a D-Sub cable. If somebody interested to test one I can provide the link for them.
