What I really like about glossier is their conscious decision to not constantly launch makeup products and take their time to launch products that match their ethos (simple makeup). Unlike many of the other makeup brands sold in Sephora who seem to have a new product every month. But I do have to say a lot of their products are underwhelming aside from marketing. The ultra lip actually surprised me the most I didn’t think I’d like it as much as I do. :)
I agree with this sentiment. My understanding is that Sephora requires all brands to provide constant launches in order to get shelf space. It is a business decision to keep customers coming in for the new releases
I agree! I honestly prefer brands that take their time with product releases , it gives me more time to get to know the brand and the formulas of their products - unlike colourpop for example, now I do love colourpop but they come out with stuff multiple times a month it’s impossible for anyone to keep up
Why are you all sounding so bitchy? It’s not the end of the world, they might improve the formula and maybe do them with the cloud paint one, If people come forward with it. No need to sound like it’s the biggest issue ever.
I think Glossier is sliding by because they have cult favorites like boy brow and the cloud paints (which I do love) as well as their skincare products but their new releases have been super disappointing (at least when compared to other products that are available today)
I was so freakin sad when I realized it wasn’t the cloud paint formula 😫. That formula is so good, I own literally all of them because it makes the skin look so pretty, even over powder. I’ve been having a horrible time trying to blend it, it’s so patchy, whereas the cloud paints are never patchy.
I used to view Glossier as just “expensive Vaseline”, but one day upon receiving my paycheck I decided to try out the cloud paint blush blush and boy brow. Placed my order and was I AWE by the consistency of the blush. Also, I’ve used several popular brow gels and none even hold a candle to the thickening power of boy brow. Eventually, I purchased wowder, 3 more shades of blush, and the skin tint. I’m so impressed by everything I’ve bought. :) love that everything is safe for sensitive skin and unscented, as well.
I think the bronzer launch is extremely disappointing. With their history you’d think they’d learn about a better shade range. but the darker shad felt (once again) like an afterthought. It’s very red hued and looks more like a blush. For anyone who says that they’re a small company and have limited resources when producing/researching shades, I think you can have a smaller range that is well distributed and thought out. Take em’s recent bronzer launch. They launched four shades that weren’t all in the light tan spectrum. I think they tried to make it much more balanced. Kind of tired of glossier and their lack of care for BIPOC.
companies like juvia's place have a wide range of shades but fall under an indie brand...also glossier isnt really a small company at least not anymore
Juicy tip… I love that you appreciate Glossier for what it is, too. I found the brand at a time when I was trying to appreciate my skin and care for it rather than cover it all up with heavy makeup. What a pretty look, I’m for sure going to copy it!!!
The bronzer isn’t really finger friendly but with a brush it’s amazing. I wore it last night and got complimented on my makeup by someone who doesn’t wear/like makeup lol
Stretch concealer has been my favorite base product since 2016. I didn’t know my brows could look good until I tried their bou brow and I didn’t know about skincare until I tried their serums. For that, I owe Glossier this life changing moment!!!
the skin tint is my favorite foundation product ever. i hate their concealer though i have a lot of creases under my eyes and it creases too much. those bronzer are not going to work for deeper skin like it’s embarrassing 😳
Things I love about Glossier: A year ago they donated $1 million to Black Lives Matter and to Black-owned businesses. They are cruelty-free. Products I use all the time are Brow Flick, Cloud Paints in Puff, and always the lip Balm Dot Com. My favorite lip balms, I currently have three of them. What I don’t like? I’m in my 50s and while fresh, light makeup is a nice idea, I have to have makeup that actually stays on my skin. I don’t use their foundations (and from what I can see happening here, probably not their eyeshadows either). Thank you for such a great, detailed video as usual, Julia. 💕💕💕
Unfortunately, there's a lot of black workers who were not treated well by glossier and had to quit. They even have an Instagram page. They're trying to get glossier to apologize and change how they treat black workers but nothing's happened yet. So I'm not a fan of their hypocrisy
I felt underwhelmed by the bronzers as well. I thought they would do a cream or maybe even a powder version. I still use the bronzer with a sponge and it applies nicely for me! Overall I still love glossier as a brand but similarly have not been as excited for their launches. Maybe it’s just the over saturation of different brands coming out with similar products!
Idk I fell out of their brand when there is still an active conversation of not paying their BIPOC workers fair wages and receiving unfair treatment from management. A dismissive HR and customer harassment on their blog and their pop-up/flagship stores.
I love almost every single Glossier makeup product, except the concealer. Other than that, almost my whole daily face is Glossier. I think the brand continues to have a cult following, but our general beauty sources on social media tend to cover newness a lot and Glossier doesn’t launch things often, so they get forgotten.
after a lot of trial and error with the glossier bronzer, i found the best way was to apply some to the back of my hand, pick it up with my brush, and then apply to the face. definitely not ideal, but that works well for me and gives a smooth application!
Most of my makeup routine is glossier haha! I use stretch concealer, cloud paint, lash slick, generation G, and every now and then future dew and lidstar. The lidstar is really hard to blend and looks really chunky and patchy on the eye. It’s just the only purple shimmery eyeshadow I have but it made me realize how much I like purple!
Ur not the only one I hadn’t heard of glossier for a long time , I had to to go directly to their infra page to keep up with their new products , still shocked they came out with bronzer I have been wishing for that so I’m excited to try it 😊😭 but I thought it would be in the cloud paint formula. The bronzer launch was disappointing tbvh but I still want to try it 🙂
I completely agree with you about Glossier, they're getting a bit more discreet because brands are getting into the "skincare before makeup"/natural makeup and there are a lot of new "natural makeup" brands since the lockdown. But this is still my favorite makeup brand, I'm not loving there skincare products I've not been very lucky with them.
Sweet girl, you are a breath of fresh air . You remind me of my daughter and she’s a special one too. I’m not feeling well today but you are just the R&R I needed today. You’re such a beauty, as is my daughter. 😉
Thank you for giving me the idea to mix the foundation with another foundation so I don't have to throw it away. It's too orange and I don't need color correction, but I do like the formula (which I agree with you to use during the winter months because of dryness). Thanks for helping me save some money. Much love and blessings. Stay safe 💋 🤎🥰🙏🕊
Hey Julia, I love that you always do updates on brands and give us your updated opinions on the their products. Thank You! Also, can you do an updated skincare routine. Plus, I know you like herbivore, they just released new products.
I'm so sad you didn't like the bronzer! I have flare and love it. I thought it blended out in a similar way to cloud paint. I agree with your thoughts on glossier that many brands have emulated the effortless no-makeup-makeup products so glossier doesn't have the same hold on the industry. I'm most comfortable with a glossier style face, but find myself achieving it with clean brands like kosas and RMS.
I agree about the skywashes. I have one and it takes a lot of work to make it look good. I don't think any of them look particularly great with just the 1 sheer layer, you need to build it up a bit into something good. HOWEVER, that shade on you is like MAGIC for your eye balls! The color of your eyes just really pops against that brown. You should just wear a normal powder eyeshadow of the same shade to save on the time and effort lol
I really like glossier. I didn’t start wearing more fresh faced minimal makeup till I turned 29. I’m 30 now and have tried a few brands however for the hot months Glossier really takes the cake for me. I haven tried the bronzer though
Crying that you could tell you were about to laugh when you said “you’re always left with a juicy tip” hahahaha the cut ended up so funny! I agree with what you said about Glossier it feels like they made their name because they came with something new but now that there’s competition they’re falling behind a little other than a few cult fave products, which is a shame. :(
I just think the name "Wowder" is hysterical😂🤣 I crack up everytime you say the name🤷🏼♀😁 I had a problem with the Stretch Concealer as well... I found it just too emollient and it creased big time in my undereye area... Very frustrating!! I was so excited to get it as I'd heard so many good things about the product, but was very underwhelmed!! Like you, I just LOVE the Cloud Paints!! Beam looks amazing on the eyes as well❤ I love doing a monochrome look using it🧡🧡
I originally found you from a glossier video and you inspired me to make my first purchase from the brand. Loved seeing your thoughts on the products now ❤️
i absolutely love glossier 💕 i definitely love a sheer look, and i've tried so many times to use products recommended by you guys on youtube because you get me really excited about them, and even if i just use a little, it's always too much 😆it's really funny to me when folks dislike glossier because their products are too sheer when they are *the* perfect level for someone like me! i also agree that their staples are *it*. boy brow, cloud paint, lash slick, gen g, and stretch (as a foundation is truly so beautiful). i love trying new products but always, always end up going back to G. totallly understand how they aren't everyone's tastes, but thank you for being you, glossier!
This helped me a bunch when picking between the Tower28 Bronzinos and the Glossier Solar Paints. Definitely gonna go with the Tower28 bronzer. Fell in love with the gloss this summer! Hope they start making more base products
The highlight of my Sunday, Wednesday, and Friday’s are your videos! ❤️ Your personality is so fun and I love that you are honest about products that you don’t particularly like
If you are looking for a good lime green liquid eye shadow, try on of the eye paints from about-face! I have the lime green and it is soooooo pretty! It’s a beautiful springy/summery green!
Taylor Wynn just talked about the lip balms and I kind of want to get one, but sometimes I don't want to spend $20 on a lip balm. Ya know? The way she used it with just a lip liner and the balm on top was so pretty though.
I love mixing the cloud paints too! Dawn and Spark are too bold for my fair complexion on their own, but I mix Dawn with Beam and Spark with Puff to make a medium orange or medium pink
I really enjoy Glossier products but the reason I don’t purchase them as often as I would like to is because, I hate saying this, but there’s no instant gratification 😬 while I do shop for makeup online sometimes, there’s something about the ease of walking into a Sephora or an Ulta and know that the product is on hand… not to mention being able to color match and test.
I love Glossier a lot. Most of my daily make up is Glossier. I love the stickers to collect, and I love how they let you choose if you get the bubble packaging or not to save waste. It's frustrating that their generation g lipstick is so heavily scented because it doesn't seem like it goes with the brand. I would definitely be invested in new launches but I'm also glad they don't just launch stuff all of the time.
I really like mixing the stretch concealer with my Westman Atelier foundation stick on the base. Mostly because I bought too dark of a shade of the Westman Atelier, so I use the stretch concealer to make it a bit lighter to match. But I showed my mom, who's in mid 60s the skin tint and she fell in love with it. She used to always use the Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer, but it was just kinda getting aging looking. So just the tint was great. So glossier isn't just for the young kids. I like the tint because I really don't like foundation or base in general. But if I get a hint of a tan, it helps bring a bit of color life to my face to match my body so I'm not just pale ghost face. Then I always just spot conceal with Nars soft matte like usual. That's usually all I do for my base anyway.
The shade range of the bronzer is very disappointing, tbh Glossier is not the brand I was expecting to give amazing shade ranges anyway, oftentimes they just do the bare minimum when it comes to that. But here the "darkest" bronzer was just red, i'm sorry, you can tell there's not a lot of black people in their offices, so disappointing :(
I just recently bought one of the solar paints in the shade Flare. And girl same. I had the exact same issues with it. I was super disappointed. I thought it was going to be just like the cloud paint formulation and blend in really easily and beautifully but nope.
I personally really like the bronzer and the red undertones I think they look nice on my medium skin tone. I like to dot it on and let it sit for a second and then blend it out and it looks perfect for me!
I love a lot of Glossier products and how pretty they look on my counter but I also was disappointed by the bronzer launch. I’ve been really excited about it but I saw the photo they posted and was kind of confused. I just don’t understand the concept of a “luminous bronzer.” I was hoping for a product similar to the new elf putty bronzers but a bit more creamy. I personally would rather use a matte bronzer and apply highlighter later than highlight the texture I have on my cheeks because I’m a normal human. I love this video though!! 🥰
The bronzer looks so patchy and orange on their models, idk what they were thinking. I was also super disappointed with lidstar- I got Herb and when I pat lightly to blend it lifts off completely.
The end look came out so pretty! 😍 I really want a couple of the new tinted lip balms! It's funny I've been eyeing the last two shades you swatched! The shade villa being my favorite then trench next! Its my birthday month so you better believe I'm buying make up! 😂 I'm not wasting$$ on the bronzers tho. I really don't wear it often anyway but it just does nothing for me. It's not exciting at all. I really really wish they used their cloud paint formula! Same packaging and all would have been perfect! 4 matte shades too. We could mix a couple shades together like if they did a more cool tone, a neutral one and a couple warm ones. Mix to get our own color we need! Both depth and tone. I would love it so much and I think everyone else would too I'm sure! We should all write to them! Maybe they'd end up doing it since they already have it down for the blushes it's literally just making different shades! They really missed the mark on this one man! It could have been done much better!
Oooooo glossier is definitely for you you look amazing as always 😍 im on my 3rd boy brow i lovvve it as I struggle to find a black brow gel, and the gen z lipstick in like xxx
I think a big reason why we don't see as much hype around glossier's new releases, and a decrease in hype around new releases in general, is a combination of an oversaturation of new releases from many brands, and the shift in marketing from youtube to tiktok. I'm not sure of why/if the short-form content market is truly more lucrative for marketing right now, but I think that more and more we'll see companies leaning towards tiktok influencers for PR rather than youtubers.
Maybe the bronzer would be easier to use if you put a bit to on the back if your hand and pick it up with a sponge/brush? Idk I haven't tried it just giving a suggestion
The same thing happened to me the other day…It was completely sunny out & the thunder came out of no where and scared me so bad. Wild! Loved this video. So informative and you are absolutely gorgeous! Allie actually sent me … I love that she loves your videos. I see why… Cool ! ✅ I think the neon may look good on your under eye 😍 I don’t have anything glossier other than balm dot com & mascara. I’d love the boy brow. Need to get it. Emcosmetics = bomb!
the ultra lips kind of remind me of the revlon super lustrous lipsticks. I have rum raisin and glaring red. I wonder if they're dupes for the ultra lips, I might have to order them just to see lol
I have a problem with their marketing more than anything. If you say you're there to give confidence in spite of "flaws", show some models with actual skin texture or acne or dark spots. So I'm more than happy to see more brands I can give my money to instead!
Oh ? I really really love the Glossier stick balm highlighter, are there better options out there ? The Fenty is a bit to greasy I think, the Rituel de Fille ones are perfect, but I would love to know if there's one even better.
glossier definitely had an impact but fell off as other brands started to make more natural makeup. :/ there’s just better out there (especially for acne prone people). all the controversy surrounding the company in regard to diversity and their treatment of workers also hasn’t really helped
Good Video as always Stunning thumbnail tho Beyond Beautiful you are Ur Makeup always bomb Those BreAthtaking eyes love Em Happy Fabulous Weekend Too Stay Bless n Stay safe always
