These Hexa chains are okay but having said that there is other options /product to match, you need to search for it and sometimes slightly cheaper as well 👌
If ya chains are getting nocked around bring the cutter edge on full chisel forward to 25-20 or even 15 degrees it makes the working corner more durable in dirty timber and you won't even notice much in the way of loss of cutting speed in our hardwoods. I don't go steeper than 25 degrees on working chains I never run 30 - 35 top plate angle it makes for a very fragile chain that goes off fast in our cutting conditions.
@@roguesixty1692 I haven't tried bringing a round file chain back to 20 degrees before but it sounds like a good idea so I'll give it a try and see how it goes. Do you normally run 46RS? I'm on the fence about ordering a roll of RSLF or just sticking with the RS. I like the square but like to run short bars and the skip doesn't really work on a 18 or 20
How would you rate sharpness maintaining of square filed chisel cutters compared to the rest? Having a CBN/ABN wheel have you perhaps thought about trying Rapid Duro? In the tests carried out here it performed very well. It always cut faster than Rapid Micro, and in soft wood even faster than Rapid Super. And sharpness maintaining is unmatched by anything else. Worse probably if you come across a lot of nails etc... There are also, of course, Chinese equivalents of unknown quality to me.
@@elpolaco7654 Durability testing is very difficult to do because of the variables, so I can only offer my subjective experience Full and Hexa - I file it every tank unless it's green standing wood. Every second tank for that. C85 seems to be an exception to this and I don't understand why at this stage. Square - 3 or 4 tanks and on average and I need to remove less metal when I sharpen it. The corner is better supported from the reduced side and top plate angle. Not the results I expected when I started. Semi - depends on the saw. 404 on the 880 is normally done every 3 because the power of the saw punishes the chain. The 325 husky semi on the small Dolmar seems to last forever. Maybe 7-8 tanks. I have not tried the duro chains. It might be something to look into now that I use the grinder more. I have also been running a Carlton B3S chipper lately and that has been an interesting experience. In the right conditions it will last all day without a touch up. I want to look into that more and will make a semi in the same size to see how much cutting speed I'm giving up for that.
