Does the course tell you something you wouldnt know about jordan Peterson?Because Jordan has the habit of always repeating everything he says. Once you have seen his lectures you know almost everything about his thinking.

Great question. There was quite a bit of unique thought in the Intro to Nietzsche lectures, I felt like he's also evolved some of his points since the lectures he's put on RU-vid from his days teaching at University of Toronto. However, there is obviously some points he makes that are kind of his go to talking points that you will find you've heard him make those points before but I'm not sure there is any avoiding that. The lectures he has on RU-vid are on personality and Maps of Meaning (his own book), so this Intro to Nietzsche course is something new. I'm someone who has seen every single lecture, podcast, and interview this man has done, and I still found quite a bit of new information in Intro to Nietzsche. Hope this helps, take it for what it's worth, it's only my opinion. Thanks for commenting. :)

I’m loving the courses right now. I’ve looked at the first couple minutes of several courses & but just completed intro to nutrition, which is phenomenal.

It was 10/10 for an introductory course to Nietzsche. There was more content and value packed into that course than 10 courses from my university.

Dude, totally agree with reading him at the same time as Dostojevsky. I read Zarathustra and Brothers Karamazov simultaneously and that was quite the trip. And yes, Zarathustra is also my favorite :) Although I'm always stunned by the realization that each one of his works is basically a masterpiece. Cool to hear your experience with the course. I'm honestly considering taking it but currently busy with my philosophy master degree. So hope you keep the videos coming =)

Oh by the way, one more question. We sometimes hear the distinction between pre-daily wire JP and post-daily wire JP, in the sense that roughly since joining DW he's gotten a lot more political. Does that shine through in this course at all? I've personally enjoyed at least his podcast a lot less ever since that change.

Haha, I just added these two books to my shelf recently, didn’t plan on reading together, but now I will. I like to do one fiction one non fiction at the same time
@DeepThought8899
@DeepThought8899 16 дней назад
Thank you, and yes I will keep the videos coming for sure 👍🏻 To answer your question, I do find that in recent years he has become more political aswell but I don't think it's solely because he joined the Daily Wire (although that definitely has played a factor for sure) I think he's been getting political because of the ramping up of the culture war and current events around the world unfolding like they are. However I found the Intro to Nietzsche course to be very concentrated and unbiased for the most part, maybe I could pull out a sentence or two that was too political and maybe wasn't necessary for the lecture but you could probably equally argue that those same points were crucial in exemplifying his arguments. Overall I find it all to be connected to the theme of Nietzsche and not to stray to much into his political beliefs. Hope this helps. Thanks for the amazing comments and for watching. :)

@@masterofkaarsvetHe rarely strayed into politics or Christianity. I actually had the thought while watching the lectures that this is the brilliant old Jordan Peterson (I watched his maps of meaning and psychology lectures) and that he's so brilliant while teaching this stuff that I wish he'd do more of this and less of what he does at the daily wire.

What makes Peterson qualified to lecture on Nietzcshe?
@hotdogdcs2761

Very illuminating video, thankyou. You did a great job of showcasing the quality of the lectures without spoiling the content. I'm glad to hear Peterson plans to expand his course. Have any of the other lecturers stated that they plan to do the same? Also, Did you get the impression that the courses plan to continue beyond an introductory series?
@DeepThought8899
@DeepThought8899 11 дней назад
I believe after the 4 added on lectures that will conclude Intro to Nietzsche, however I believe there will be many more Nietzsche courses to come. Not sure if any other courses plan to expand yet, I'll let you know when I know 👍🏻 thanks for commenting. :)

Thanks! It’s unfortunate you haven’t similarly benefited from other lecturers on Nietzsche though! Look up e.g. Raymond Geuss’ lecture series. Fantastic. Lectures by Robert C Solomon are also good. This is obviously not yet even including secondary written material, some of which is also greatly engaging.
@DeepThought8899
@DeepThought8899 15 дней назад
I actually really liked Robert C Solomons lectures sorry if I made it sound like other professors didn't have amazing Nietzsche lectures I just meant to say that I think Jordan Peterson is the best, which is also just my opinion. But those Solomons lectures are definitely stellar. I actually haven't watched all of the Raymond Guess lectures yet, I know I watched 1 of them, but hearing someone else talk highly of them, I think I'll go back and finish them. Thanks for the amazing comment. :)

@@michaelwu7678 I think - Peterson being a psychologist - his lectures on psychology are worthwhile. Certainly I agree with you that Peterson seems to be lacking in philosophical expertise. That said, specifically with thinkers such as Nietzsche and Dostoevsky I'll "allow" a bit more of such an approach, given that Nietzsche constantly referred to himself as a psychologist and stated: "Dostoevsky, the only psychologist from whom I had anything to learn.”

So I am South African and I have watched a few of JP videos over the last few years and he talks a lot about Nietzsche. Do you think the course or even reading Nietzsche is useful for someone who is not western?
@DeepThought8899
@DeepThought8899 15 дней назад
Oh yes you should for sure read him if you are interested, while it is true he primarily criticizes the western societies and religions he still talks about eastern societies and religions and hold them in relatively high regard. Nietzsche is definitely for everyone, in my opinion. If you're interested in him, definitely pick him up and read his works. You don't have to be from the west to enjoy Nietzsche 👍🏻 as for the course... like I said in the video, I think it's a perfect intro to Nietzsche, so if you've never engaged with him before, it could be very useful for you. Nietzsche is very, very dense, and it takes time to understand what he is saying. That doesn't mean you need to be a genius or have an IQ of a 160 to read him... anyone can read him. It just takes patience and an open mind. Hope this helped :) Thanks for commenting.
