I live and breathe both C&C and classic Doom, and it was a breath of fresh air for the series when this came out - finally, something of quality for the series, a first for me since 2007/8. Sadly the original uncompressed footage of the FMVs was landfilled a while ago, which was literally tearjerking. Thanks for this. It is the model to follow for all remasters.

Im afraid these terms will just devolve further as marketing departments have no idea what they really mean.

It's the jounos and players that don't know what these terms mean. It's like "beta" and "pre-alpha", devs know very well the difference but the overwhelming majority of people don't due to their own stupidity. Marketing departments simply take advantage of this.

I haven't played it too much, but it's exactly what I would expect from a remaster. Hope my purchase helps bring other old games back to life in the future.

My problem with a lot of remasters is that usually a fan made patch or source port winds up being better in terms of being updated, having more features and better mod support. (In the case of a lot of older FPS games like Doom)

Fan patches/source ports sometimes end up being better, sure, but those still require you to have the original game. That's not always practical.

Dune 2 actually got a “modernized” remake in 1998 called Dune 2000. Is it possible that you might review it at some point? I actually thought it was pretty good.

Red1 did have unit hotkey selections, and I haven't tested it on the remaster. But there is a hidden feat in the OG where if you use the Chronosphere there is a X chance it creates a vortex on the map that kills anything near it, also it moves

It's not too wrong, contemporary reviews (Back in 1992) did have a lot of positive to say about Dune 2 but also panned it for it's clunky controls and interface and the bad AI. Dune 2 was groundbreaking but it wasn't perfect when it came out.

OpenRA is useless without the original games and doesn't include the expansions/console missions/bonus content/extra music/Workshop integration. So yes, these remasters are better.

What did you think about Homeworld, classic or remastered? Was it good? Do you recommend the classic one or the remastered one? I noticed the steam version comes with both..

Homeworld Remastered has a few mechanical differences to the original, but is ultimately the better way to play it.

Gonna play Tomb Raider 1-3 remasters? I suppose you'd have much the same to say about them. I was just happy to get something that didn't make me want to Minecraft myself installing them.

Frankly JRPG combat is almost universally terrible. Active-time battle just happens to be one of the worst systems.

The TLOU "remake" is more like a remaster built in the TLOU2 engine, from what I can tell.

Anyone expecting actual discussion about remasters in general will be disappointed. The first 6 minutes is an explanation of what re-releases, ports, and remasters are(for everyone in 2023 that doesn't know what a remaster is), then the rest of the video explains how CnC Remastered is indeed a remaster because it did a bunch of remaster things. Then the video concludes. Really weird.

You're acting like this set out to be some sort of academic discussion on a topic that really doesn't need such.

So I figured RTS is my favorite genre.. Im about to buy an 2000,- gaming PC. It offers C&C, RA series and Age of Empires. Sell your Xbox man! Im selling my PS5 and fully going into PC. Console games are just shit
