the honest truth. 🫡
maybe I'm being too hard on myself, but I have high expectations for things I make.🤷‍♀️

Hi Kerri, I discovered your channel this morning and have been enjoying some videos. I also subscribed. I started with the stash busting ones. I was shown by YT. I enjoyed those so I watched this one. I’m surprised there aren’t any other comments yet. I think every pattern designer especially new ones, should watch this! It’s very, informative, honest, and interesting. Thank you for sharing about your process and journey.

@@marina_m11 thank you so much for this comment, and thank you for watching! Designing turned out to be so much more challenging than I thought it would be, especially for a fully graded garment, so I wanted to share with anyone who might be in the same boat!! I've learned so much from my experience that I felt like no one really tells you when you first start out!

@@fernandphlox yes that’s true!! And having made plenty of wearables, from big-time Crochet RU-vidrs tutorials + written patterns where the yarn was too heavy… I think this is generally a problem. I now see that crocheters in the US mostly want to use worsted weight yarns. And acrylic! I was one of them! 🤦🏻‍♀️ Now I have a big stash of worsted weight that I need to totally destash creatively + the DK and lighter weight yarn in nicer fibers I have started to accumulate. Design and fiber are very important to understand and it really does take time to learn this, like you said.

@@marina_m11 you're so right, worsted here in the US is incredibly popular, it makes a garment faster to make for sure. I learned that unless it's a sweater or some kind of wrap/outerwear, I prefer lighter weights of yarn! Especially if it's a summer garment, in which case I'll likely also use a plant fiber of some kind. 🙂 It's really a learning curve that people just don't talk about lol.

I relate to you SOOOOO MUCH in this video. My break has been for all these same reasons. I have spent the last 2 years just soaking in information and really learning from knitting patterns, YT podcasts, and yarn shops. And now intentional makes and ideas and what ACTUALLY works are what’s important to me. Not just constantly releasing a pattern for the sake of releasing. So thanks so much for sharing your journey because it gave me a sense of peace 🖤 BUT know that I am hear to chat or bounce ideas off of if you do jump back into writing!!!!

@@tzigns ah i'm so glad! 💞 I'd say same! I'm really trying to learn what I like in patterns, what kind of yarns I like working with, how to use them well, stuff like that! I've been trying loads of different kinds of patterns and projects, I have so many WIPs right now lol, just trying to figure it all out! I'll be back eventually, but with more intentionality for sure!! 🙌 I'd love to chat anytime!!
