Rumor has it one of his leased on guys got caulk with drugs in the truck and that’s why his insurance was doubling and all his quotes were doubling. Drugs in a truck under your authority = out of business 99% of the time.

Like you, I decided I needed a change in my life and I wanted something so far away from computer programming that it had to be hotshot transportation. So I watched a lot of videos from top piglet Hot shot Dave you South Georgia hot shot quite a few others and I started my business got my authority got a truck and rented a trailer and started doing non CDL hot shot. Watching your videos I found that hauling cars was much more enjoyable most of the time and a lot more work available. So piglet absolutely helped guide the idea forward allowed me to get into this industry confidently. I really hate to see him have to close his business but I truly understand why he had to do it. I eventually got my CDL and now drive for a company to gain that experience but I still consider trying to go back and revive my authority once I can figure out a specific freight I want to deal with and Lanes I wouldn't want to run and hopefully the fuel and insurance rates will become more reasonable before long.

4:30 very difficult to follow here. They they they for 3 different parties. I think I get it tho. TP Alex did a fine job, dudes a real entrepreneur. But the economy is going in the shitter and big companies are doing weird things. The big company in his case was the insurance. I've been having strange trouble with banks and especially PayPal. The things outside of Alex's control eclipsed his progress. With the writing on the wall, and since Alex prepared for crisis by being able to eject on a dime, he put the business on indefinite hold, got as much liquid cash back as he could, and now he can figure out the next step. To anyone going in business for themselves: cover your own ass, don't assume anything.

When my Mom had her strokes I was out for many months, but I kept paying that insurance to keep the authority active. The best rates usually needs 2+ years of authority and mine is older than that. When I started I hated hearing a broker tell you, sorry you need 3, 6 months, 1 or 2 years before they could use you. As for Alex, I think he could have planned his finances a little better and he admits that. But with a wife and little girls at home he wanted that life as he should. But he should have grown a little slower, paid himself a little less and rather invest in more equipment he should have built up the financial position (credit) of the business so he had the ability to move past expenses like insurance that suddenly goes up. I see in the comments that there may have been a bad apple in the basket and that's very unfortunate if that's what happened. Just another reason for me to stay an O/O and not expand. He certainly provided me with much insight into the business and I hate to see him close up like he did. I didn't start my business until I was 58... Alex is only 28! He's younger than both of my daughters.

Alex seems to be a charming, smart, stand-up guy. His critics have no standing. In life, we all take chances. We win some and lose some. If we're lucky, we learn from the experiences instead of hiding in your safe space. These days, it seems that the planet is in designed turmoil, and small businesses seem to be the target. If you signed up with his company. You were hoping to ride his wave to the top. He had a lot of visibility. Just like investing in any company, or person...you pay your money and take your chances.

Hot shot is NOT an expandable business, you can’t build A company with something anyone can do like non CDL hot shot, fuel is not an issue in cost for most drivers as we get a FSC that takes that off the table , he expanded too quickly and more than likely was running on cash flow only and not profit.

Sorry to hear about Alex.. Guys you have to demand higher rates to be profitable simple.. stay regional stop chasing the long ones you get trapped far from home or crazy amounts of deadhead regional also means closer to YOUR mechanic closer to your family you don't find anything stay home to make $2000 and spend $2000 you won't last long... good luck everybody
@RandySoWavvy

1. If you’re going out and only making 2000 but spending 2000 you’re doing something extremely wrong if I spend 2k best believe I made over 7k 2. Going OTR does not mean more dead heading I deadhead less when I’m OTR

If you’re going to have people leased on to your authority the least you can do is research how other companies do it. A quick 5 min search would’ve shown him no company pays for the insurance of Owner Ops either we have to get our own insurance or it’s deducted every week from our checks. So him paying for that on top of pulling cheap freight is what caused him to fail. Not wishing bad on the guy but I saw it coming when he said he pulls freight for a $1 a mile out of CA everyone knows the west coast especially CA has the highest paying rates. But then again having a driver caught with drugs will also put you out of business quicker than taking cheap freight 🤔

Here’s my questions. Why are people talking about their pockets? So, if you talk about how great you’re doin don’t you think people are always looking to make good money? I’ve been trucking since 2006 and have seen hs trucks ALL over. If there are a lot of trucks all bidding for loads that brings down prices. I can go into detail but I think you all know what I’m talking about. Talk about money and these insurance and brokers hear how much you make. I mean I can’t be the only one thinking this. Let’s thing for a sec who has the most say in the trucking industry. Piss off the big companies and you’ll see what happens

Wow…I can’t believe that you are that naïve…Alex cut bait and run, he even tells you on his final video he had been saving 10% on his maintenance account…if you do the math on the $1million for the first quarter…that’s $100k…so it stands to reason based on Alex’s comments that he had over $100k in savings…one of two things. He either spent the money to pay for the insurance premiums or he decided to cut bait and run with 6 figures in his pocket…either way he let down the guys that were leased on to him… Alex is a smart guy, he was making money his owner ops were not…do the math bud, he lays it all out for you… So, the insurance didn’t fail Towpiglet, Towpiglet failed his owner ops

@@brandandoyle8073 no, he said he started doing 10% in January…and even if you are right about a couple of months at 10%…he has been saving at 5% before January…regardless, Towpiglet let his owner ops down…
