Best video I've seen on the topic.a lot of ppl suggest the same things, but never detail WHY. I'm just finishing up my first year with etsy and this was all very helpful. I have some questions- 1.how'd you handle severe slowdowns in orders? 2.Did you ever get orders for things so large you had to source your own shipper? (Like furniture) if so, what's your recommendation? 3.have you ever had orders damage or not show up? What's your recommended policy for that?
New subscriber here! Your video and the way you present your information won me over. Very inspiring and insightful! Thanks for sharing your knowledge and talent! You're obviously a hard-working person, and your family and friends who helped out deserve a shout-out as well. Keep up the dream.
Biggest risk with any 3rd party platform is the customer is theirs, not yours. If you're account is cancelled for any reason your toast. Doesn't mean you shouldn't take the opportunity while its their. Just watch your overhead and avoid taking ondebt to service one stream of revenue.
That happened to mine I got canceled a long time ago because of a customer complaint that had no reason against my product. Now anytime I open an Etsy shop even if it's on a different name or email address I get shut down and it's been over 15 years
Ryan I want to thank u for your videos that your doing, and i watch u the other night on IDC Woodcraft with Garrett. And I want to thank u for your time u spent with them and I hope u will be willing to do it again. U are giving me some great thoughts on cnc I'm new to the cnc world. Thanks again Ryan.
Thanks for this fantastic video - so many helpful tips and a huge amount of encouragement, feeling much more confident about launching my Etsy store (finally!) Those two HUGE insights of: 1) The importance of photography. 2) Etsy being Occasion based - just the insights I needed!
Excellent advice. I'm going to try it. Maybe include design downloads, what do you think? I've been filming my designs and am planning on releasing videos on RU-vid.
Hi There, Just wanted to get your view on how Etsy does NOT allow its Sellers to sell their Shop/Business - apparently against their policy ! ? How do you reconcile the fact that your Shop/Business would ‘miss-out’ on an average industry standard of 2 - 3 times profit multiplier - had you been able to sell !? Cheers !
Your work is amazing so no disrespect to that, but I have seen some equally impressive work on Etsy that isn’t bringing in that kind of sales. How much of these sales were driven by your RU-vid channel?
I started RU-vid to teach, not to promote, most of my subscribers are woodworkers so they don’t want to buy anything from me, they will just go make it.
@@cutting-it-close thanks. I love your work, was on the fence about RU-vid and didn’t know if the exposure helped drive sales. I appreciate your videos, and have learned a lot from you. Keep doing what you do.
I could be wrong but by watching his other videos it seams to me that sales besides what he mentioned here are driven by simplifying the product which helps on the next part of making it cheaply, meaning how to keep cost down and labor. There is beautiful stuff on Etsy but you're not gong to have the sales he's showing spending 2 hrs on a cutting board or alot of one offs. Has to be production style. Im assuming he's selling alittle cheaper than the guys working out of their garage doing 2-4 items a day.
Etsy is not what it use to be. The amount of money you lose with mandatory off site ads, listing fees, transaction fees it's just not worth it. Even if you have a good handle on the SEO for your listings you won't sell anything unless you are spending even more money on Etsy Ads. If you have a customer complain about something and they want a refund, regardless of how ridiculous the complaint is be prepared that Etsy will refund the money out of your account. It is very easy / possible that you can have a high volume of sales on Etsy (gross sales) but yet make very little money or even lose money (net sales) because of the extraordinary costs and fees associated with your Etsy account. Etsy just doesn't get that the SELLERS are Etsy's customers, not the BUYERS.
Etsy is a nightmare to get started with. No matter what I try or how many tutorials I watch I can't get past the "you have violated community guidelines and are permanently banned" stage.
