I own a Tajima chalk line and worked in all types of weather. So far so good. Have had no problems with it. I think it’s worth the $40. Best chalk line out there
informative and funny - worth a subscribe. I also appreciate that I'm not the only one who uses quality tools when they're necessary and cheap tools when they're not.
Stilletto actually got bought out by Milwaukee. Martinez is the guy who designed the original titanium hammer. Mike Martinez is his name his new company is Martinez
VERY GOOD! The detailed commentary is appreciated. I especially enjoyed it being in real-time. I had no idea there were so many specialized tools to open a beer bottle ... you hot shit! Keep up the good work! And yes, a class in the proper use of a speed square would be great!
When my chalk line gets wet I just put about 6-8 nails on a studded wall spaced out and wrap my wet line around the nails and let it dry. tap out the wet chalk inside the reel and let it dry all day. good as new
dude you should def do the speed square vid. & another vid idea... how you transfer your wall layout from the prints to the deck (hope that makes sense)
Also very interested in this. Your skill of walking through roof trusses none of us will ever master. But knowing how to angle find with the square is very useful. Also we always trust our framers to build the blueprint. Knowing how to transfer drawings to real walls would help alot before most homeowners just write a check. Probably would give alot of training to all new framing carpenters who are "require minimum 2 years of experience" before they can get hired
Minimum 2 years expierience??? Wtf we hire rookies all the time some work out great most dont but we start them.out at low pay but if they work hard and show they're hungry to learn the raises come.fast after that.
Hi, Stiletto was bought out by Milwaukee tools. This actually makes these hammers more available and sold at somewhat lower prices. Martinez is the inventor of the titanium type hammer and previous owner of Stiletto. He is now on his own and started manufacturing and selling steel headed titanium bodies modular hammers. I have the the M1 and M4 models and prefer them over the Stiletto. Either way, all these hammers are pretty awesome individually but you just need to be careful with the ears as they break at times. BTW, you can buy replacement faces for your Stiletto hammer at Home Depot or anywhere as they are very much available. Good video.
Stilletto and Martinez are separate companies but Mr Martinez designed the Stilletto and then went and made his own. I like my TB 3 but my boss has th Doc Martin hammer and it's pretty slick.
I don't know about in Canada but in Alabama you can walk in to any store that sells the Fat Max and swap it out, no questions asked, no receipt or anything. I haven't bought one in years and I get new ones every six months or so.
When I first started my boss used to threaten to replace me with a nail, now working in Canada I understand why. I have simular set up but, tied off, full PPE, weights a tonne.
You re right; having an expensive chalk line is nice but as soon as it gets wet is done I personally love the Milwaukee is not espensive (10$ maybe) works great for a few months and then I’ll just get a new one
Honestly man the leather pouches may seem off putting cause the price, but a good task, cnc, or occidental pouch would last you a good 6 years minimum I'd say. I just retired my task leatherworks pouch after 7 years (framing like you). Also lost my stiletto while back, replaced it with a estwing 15 ounce framer and I must say I don't really miss the stiletto. Considering the estwing was like $60, compared to $320. Fatmax has a new tape too, feels like a hardball in your hand. Keep up the good work bud, stay warm.
Based on this setup I think an Occidental Leather oxy-light adjustable framer would be worth the money. It's similar but would last for years and years. Cheers!
Those bags looks like clc framers I got a set yrs ago from my nail gun shop and they last me 5+ yrs. I just replaced them last yr with the Occidental 9515 not happy,. wish I would have gotten the diamond back or a new set of clc, thanks for the video and be safe on that ice this winter I couldn't deal with that.
Bud, nice vid. Very funny. Word of advice; invest in yourself and get a better toolbelt. It'll be both more comfortable and make you more efficient. And that will ultimately make you more money. I can personally recommend Occidental Leather toolbelts or Diamondback toolbelts. Both are top notch and absolutely worth the money. I look forward to watching your review of your new belt. Stay safe
Home Depot still sells some of the Kuny's line but most of it looks like it's all online exclusive now. I think it's all being discontinued though is why it's online only. I see some item on Amazon also.
Try using a mechanical pencil. I use a 1.3 mm for framing so it doesn’t break easily. Leaves a clean line and I haven’t had to sharpen a pencil in years.
I believe the guy that started Martinez hammers started Stiletto before it was sold to Milwaukee. I think Milwaukee still owns and sells them but I could be wrong.
I see some framers have tool belts from makita and use the electrical pouches. Looks very convenient and easy access to tools. Then add the other nail pouches and wallahh they have a really good setup. If youre looking for another toolbelt
Go to Ebay and type in CLC 5605. There you will find the same belt. I think Kuny was just the name CLC used in different markets. There is one Kuny AP-760 listed but more exspensive than the CLC
You might want to try a Swanson speed square. Your Empire speed square lacks the scribing notches, for instance. Swanson invented speed squares 100 years ago, so they know a bit about how to make one functional.
Mark Martinez the owner of Martinez tools invented the stiletto hammer and sold the company to Milwaukee tools. the Martinez hammer is his improved design of the old hammer.
Maybe a little suggestion, know the Aussie carpenter use these belts little pricey but really good quality, is the buckaroo belts really good really comfy, but bit pricey, life time warranty I think. Maybe just something to think about something different. Usually about 130 AUD, made in Australia
You might want to upgrade to occidental leather bags, they’re more expensive but the quality of the leather is good. They’ll last you easily 5x longer than the ones you buy
