King is the man! The thing I love about his books isn't just that they're genuinely scary, but that they're packed with extreme amounts of emotion and a genius understanding of the inner working of the human mind.
I recently started reading King and am pleasantly surprised. You nailed it when you say that he writes excellent characters. So far I've enjoyed The shining, The Gunslinger and the Green Mile most. Still have many books to go. My goal since January is to read one King book per month.
Yes -- agree with Katy -- if you watch a lot of "Fantasy" genre You Tubers. The Dark Tower is usually in most people's top 10 Fantasy authors. The Dark Tower is that good!
Such a nice list. And i really like your personality and perspective. Personally, i started to read King just little over a year ago but im already 32 books in and Needful things is my favourite from him
@@NerdyKathi Im just reading Salem Lot for the first time, so you can imagine how much am I enjoying right now. I have that from King what you cannot have anymore, cause you read everything. But I can give you something - "Night in Zagreb" by Adam Medvidović - ongoing series. Hidden gem. Would like to hear your review on it.
I have read 50 so far. My top ten are: 10- Gerald's Game 9 - The Outsider 8 - The Shining 7 - Cujo 6 - Needful Things 5 - Pet Sematary 4 - Duma Key 3 - Under the Dome 2 - Salem's Lot 1 - It
I haven't read it yet as my cousin said it has an elderly German Shepherd and mine died recently. When I can face that I will definitely be reading it.
Oh how call to visit a real shop called Needful Things. I'd be there all the time. Pet Sematary is very popular, but it's not one of my favourites. I like Insomnia.
The Dark Half and Pet Sematary were the first King books I've ever read. I've had the chance to read more over the years. Salems Lot is my favorite King book as of now. Right now I'm reading the novella collection Four Past Midnight. 49 pages into The Langoliers story. 😊❤📚
Thanks for posting, „It“ still one of my all time favorite books. I’m reading „The body“ at the moment great story, really good characters. Highly recommended.
Thanks for the video, great description of the books without making any spoilers ! I have read and own everything he has ever written (including all the short story collections and the Bachman titles). Was surprised to see Joyland in your list (not saying it isn't worthy, it's just not too many fans rate it (but I do) - isn't the last chapter a magnificent tear jerker ?). Cheers, from the #1 Constant Reader from 'across the ditch'.
Thank you very much for the kind words. Ah I love meeting other Constant Readers. I haven't read a few of his most recent, but pretty much everything else. I love Joyland, it truly was a little gem. Perhaps it doesn't rate because it is a gentler story than others.
King is my favourite author of all time, my number 1 is The Shining, my favourite Dark Tower novel is Wizard and Glass and in December I'm clearing my schedule so I can spend all of December leisurely re-reading IT for the third time!
The Shining has never been a favourite of mine, most likely because I love the Kubrick film which King hates, I know. If I had any favourites after The Gunslinger, it would be Wizard and Glass. Enjoy It. I'm looking forward to reading it again as well. Thank you so much for sharing.
loved the video. i especially love that you chose to pick the gunslinger rather than choosing a favorite dt novel in the series. spoiler>>>>> wizard in glass will always and forever be my favorite book of all time let alone my favorite king book. starts right up with the blain conflict... topeka being in the world of the stand.... the most amazing and tragic story of roland's first and true love susan and all the characters surrounding it.... walking through the emerald city to find flagg and tick tock man.... i truly don't know how people can say its one giant flashback.... theres clearly so much more.
Thank you Jimbo. Wizard and Glass is fantastic, for all the reasons you mentioned. I find that by the middle of the series it usually feels like one giant book to me. The Gunslinger stands out because it is what hooked me, and differs so much from the others.
@@NerdyKathi yes the first four and very different. feels like king was just going insane, and at wolves of the calla he was like... "okay i gotta figure out how to end this thing" lol.
New subscriber from Canada really enjoying your videos. You have a great personality. Very engaging. I’m binge reading all of Stephen King. Great writer.
Hey Kathi, My parents brought me home in 60’ far from Australia and my King experience kind of mirrors your own. Thanks for the honest reviews. Looking forward to to Joyland now. S Prosperity and Long Life
Sorry this took so long. I reside just north of New Orleans near the shores of lake ponchartrain in a small city built in an old pine forest. Got my copy of joyland and hope to start it next year. Happy holidays. S
Stephen King is my favourite author! I'm currently reading 11.22.63 for the first time and I am absolutely loving it. Definitely think it will end up in my top 5! Great video
I've got to say I'm not as big a fan of some of his earlier books but it has been so long since I read them that I need to try them again. Thank you so much for sharing.
@@NerdyKathi There are so many to choose from I guess they got lost in the pile. By the way, The Wastelands and The Dark Tower are my favorite Tower books.
i’m reading Under The Dome, i’m 750 pages into it so i’m really looking forward to finishing it, i’m very curious about how it ends as i saw many people disliked it, so don’t what to expect
@@NerdyKathi Hello, I finished reading Under The Dome, i extremely enjoyed the whole book, im aware that the ending isn’t as grandiose as the book. In my imaginary, an unhappy ending would have had a greater effect on me. I’m still happy with it though, it’s not as bad as some people make it out. I would rate this book a 9.5/10. Now i d not know what to read eheh, i was thinking about cujo but i still have to decide completely
Yes I agree an unhappy ending would have elevated the book. The ending left me dissatisfied but I loved the rest of it and it is much better than some other books by King. Thank you for sharing.
Shout out to Cousin Stacey! As a lifelong King fan I actually prefer his Bachman books, The Long Walk and The Ballad Of The Flexible Bullet being two of the greatest novellas I've ever read. But I may be biased as my introduction to Stephen King was a Bachman book, Thinner.
11/22/63 sounds really good. I live in Dallas and like reading about the JFK assassination and have seen some of the historical sights. I am adding it to my TBR for November. I have only read The Shining by Stephen King but am looking forward to this one.
Great choices for top ten, only one I didn't like that match is Under the Dome, and I haven't read Mr Mercedes (the tv adaptation is as excellent as u said), and the Dark Tower. You didn't mention 11/22/63 has its own tv show (mini series, Hulu) and it's also excellent.
Great list! I liked 11/22/63 and found it very interesting. I am interested in trying "It" or "The Stand" but am too scared! Will you be reading/have you read Fairytale?
11/22 is a great read. It's hard for me to judge, but I think The Stand is probably less "scary" as such. And yes! I just got my hardcover of Fairytale and will be reading it soon.
I love king books, too. His short stories are really good, too! Have you read his sons books? They’re awesome!! Joe Hill!! Sometimes I almost think I like Joes books better! Please read Joe if you haven’t!! He has novels and 4 books of really good short stories.
I'm not a huge fan of short stories, but I do love many of King's, and yes I've read 2 of Joe Hill's books and intend to read more. He reminds me of a younger King.
My current top 10.... 1. The Stand 2. It 3. Dark Tower VII - The Dark Tower 4. 11/22/63 5. Needful Things 6. Salem's Lot 7. Under the Dome 8. Dark Tower II - The Drawing of the Three 9. The Green Mile 10. Dark Tower III - The Wastelands Just bubbling under - Pet Sematary, The Shining, Duma Key, Misery
Ok, you've inspired me to read more of King's work. Ive only read Insomnia and 11/22/63 and enjoyed both. So, where would you recommend I start? Carrie and move forward?
😂 Oh I think you should read more. Hmm where to start. Personally I like going by publication date, but I would recommend you only read those that appeal to you. I should probably do a video of my least favourite King books at some point. Enjoy!
