I really appreciate you setting the games up when you talk about them. The effort shines through. This is the best new boardgame channel I've stumbled on because you go the extra mile. Greetings from Iceland! Subscribed
I love that you set up each game, thank you for that! The production quality of this video is superb. Also, I like the energy and the love that I feel each moment you talk about these games!
I see Spirit Island, I hit like. One of best board gaming exp ever. That thing was my 5th modern board game i tried and now after more then 100 other new games it is still at the top by large margin.
I stumbled across this list and gave it a go. Man I’m glad I did! You have a great energy to you and I loved most of the games you talked about. Definitely subscribed and checking out your other content.🎉 Things I liked: 1) showing pics of game components 2) quick run through of what you like on turns 3) the side story! 4) your humor in a family friendly way
Loved your passion and your humor. Infectious. Can't help but envy the breadth of your board game experience. Now I'm off to explore the other lists & videos on your channel. Blessings!
Subbed! Love the style! Great editing too - I know how hard that can be! Spirit Island is also my #1 of all time and you have a bunch of other games in your top 10 that I'm a fan of too. Looking forward to more of your content.
I love the production you do and extra effort you put into setting up the game. So I dont have to look up images of game you are talking about. Keep up the good work. 👍❤️
Just got Heroes of Might and Magic 3: The Board Game. It was a favorite PC game for me since childhood, and although I've never backed a Kickstarter (question what it does for the industry, often results in serious bloating of games and tons of expansion boxes sold with base to justify lofty prices), but I needed to back it. I just got it (everything except the Inferno expansion), and it is amazing. Based off your picks in this list, I feel that you would enjoy it.
Love your tip toeing into the "capitalism is a depressing reality we live in" while introducing Brass. I love this game, but it is so hard to sell, ironically.
Great video, I’m now a subscriber 👍😎 I’m mostly into Euros, but I play other games too. I haven’t played all of the games on your top 10, but I’ve tried Twilight Imperium twice (I met my husband that way 😀), and I love Ark Nova. And I own War of the Ring Second Edition and Game of Thrones First Edition but still haven’t played them. 😬 How much better is GOT Second Edition than the original? In case you have played both. I only have the core box. Also, a friend of mine got Spirit Island for Christmas, so I’ll finally get to play that one. 🥳
I played the first edition of the GoT card game once, and bought second edition the next day! I really enjoyed it, but I could feel the need to streamline some things right away
Great video, I'm very surprised this looks so professional and yet your channel is so recent... There should be so much more subscribers ! Also have you ever played sidereal confluence ? It's my personnal #1 ;)
I haven’t! I’m interested in it, but I know it’s better with more players and I’m often playing games solo or 2-player these days… I’ll keep an eye on it if my gaming group grows again!
Great video and fun refreshing reviews. Oathsworn is an amazing game, especially once you paint everything. The visual impact, the story, the battle flow…the best. Brass , Rebellion and Five Tribes are on my top ten also. Now I’m going to have to watch your 20-11.
Hey just found your channel somehow and have been enjoying your videos. Love the energy and the delivery. Looking forward to more. I don't know that my tastes match yours so much, but really enjoying the content. Also, I think my number one is Revive.
If you can get a group to play with, there is NO game as good as Twilight Imperium. The only reason anybody ever keeps it out of the top spot is the difficulty to get it to the table.
New sub here, loved the video production, and loved your choice in games. We share the same number one. And I just got the newest expansion for Christmas to also fulfill all the content possible. Agree 100percent with all the things you said about it. In fact I’m going to go play it right now!!
Great list! After hearing the word “puzzle” thrown around in #10-2, I had guessed (or at least ready to recommend) your #1. Awesome game! It’s also up there for me, right next to Arkham Horror LCG 😁 have you tried that one?
Sorry, Im going to be that guy...Inis is pronounced "In-ish." Inis is probably my number 1 or 2 game. Every game I've had has been so memorable. I love the way clashes work...its like the designer subtly suggesting that the players should negotiate. The art is breath taking, and the tactical card play is amazing.
Great list, thanks for your time and effort! If I would like to get some GoT card game stuff, maybe to have 4 decks for casual play - what would recommend getting for that purpose?
If you have absolutely nothing, the core box is really a great place to start. Gets you going real quick, with all the essential tokens, too. You can also probably get it pretty cheap secondhand at this point! Once you've played the factions in the base game, I'd just look for packs that match the houses you like the most-they can feel pretty different to play.
Too many to name! But you asked, so I’ll name a few anyway. Twilight Struggle, Too Many Bones, Nemesis, Undaunted, Dune: Imperium, Unmatched… all of those are great and could probably make the top 20 if I was in a different mood!
I legitimately am trying to understand why so many love spirit island. Played it numerous times… it was decent. Respect to those who love it.. I just don’t get it
There’s just something about the breaking point for me. That moment where everything swings from “we’re all doomed” to “hey, I think we can do this.” Knowing that that feeling ONLY comes from the work you put in and the strategies you employed feels super satisfying for me. I think it also helps that I mostly play solo or with 2-I don’t know if you’ve played at higher player counts, but that really slows things down. Also, it might just not be for you! In any case, glad to have you here, and happy gaming!
Eep! Sorry about the car accident! Glad you’re OK. I just discovered your channel and seriously great work. Thank you for all of the effort you Obviously put in to this video.
For solo, I prefer playing with 2 spirits (although the occasional 3-spirit game can be really fun). Multiplayer, 4 is WAY too much. I feel like SI's sweet spot is as a 1- to 2-hour puzzle, and 4 players pushes it over that threshold. 2 players is my favorite, but 3 has some really cool interactions and it doesn't cross over into "too much" territory for me.
I absolutely adore A Game of Thrones The Card Game. I've played it close to 50 times but my main current gaming partner (who loves MTG, Keyforge and Warhammer Conquest) despises it, which just makes me saaaaaaad ;). But I've bought 7th Sea: City of the Five Sails and I think it shares some DNA with AGOT. Give this one a look if you like AGOT!
Thank you so much for including Oathsworn in your top 10! It's both humbling and encouraging at the same time. We have so much more of the Oathsworn world coming soon. There are lots of new systems and mechanics that we couldn't fit in the first game box that will be ready for the next games too. We hope you enjoy the entire campaign if you haven't already reached the final chapter. Cheers!
If you're wondering about the GoT Card Game, I've never played it solo. There's no official solo variant, so you'd have to see whether anyone has published solo rules on BGG-if you find any you like, let me know!
@@boardandsaviorgames oh sorry, yes, I meant GoT, sorry about that! I do see some people have played it solo so I’ll try to investigate but thanks for a great video overall !! Subscribed.
TY for this review! OK we sold back Brass, Ark Nova, WOTRing and TI4 because we prefer and play TONS of other better games for us like Eclipse, TFMars, BTSun, WSPan etc but we agree with SWRebellion as un jewel and we may buy Spirit Island to have a try!
how many expansions are there for Spirit Island? Ive read somewhere that there is one that doesnt matter since its basically Spirit Island Lite, is that the case?
I don’t know if I’d agree that it doesn’t matter-Horizons of Spirit Island is the “lite” version of the game (available exclusively at Target I believe). It’s got new spirits that are all the “easy-to-play” level, so I have it for teaching new players. Then, there’s Branch and Claw, Feather and Flame, Jagged Earth, and Nature Incarnate. That’s the order that I personally bought the expansions in, and it’s the order I’d recommend getting them in. Thanks for reaching out!
@@boardandsaviorgames I've only played ISS Vanguard, and I love it, but it is much more story focused and the combat mechanics are basically non-existent. You do everything rolling a lot of d6. It is not linear, though, and each session is split into 2 interesting phases. Not even sure I can universally recommend it to someone who's not a fan of hard sci-fi or their developer Awaken Realms. I am a fan of both of them, so it is one of my favourite games.
I don’t have any of your games on my list. Some I like, Spirit Island, Brass Birmingham. But mine I think are Euro in nature: Feast for Odin, Robinson Crusoe, Viticulture and Scythe. Then there is Lisboa, The Gallerist, Terraforming Mars, and my number one (like you I have all of it) is Arkham Horror 2nd edition. It’s mammoth 2300+ cards and variable investigators, monsters, location effects with expansion locations for me is “ka-pow” does my head.
I only have 2 crossover games with you Oathsworn is number 6 for me Twighlight imperium is number 10 for me. My top game game Shadows of brimstone (all of it with the hex fan made campaign system)
Sure we would! People play regardless of their economic system. “Go” wasn’t created under capitalism. Board games would look different without capitalism, but I don’t believe for a moment they’d go away entirely.
@@boardandsaviorgames we would have fewer games, fewer options, and fewer people able to play in homes the way we do now. Please stop kidding yourself with this nonsense. You’ve bought into a fantasy that impossible to achieve and it hurts more than helps.
Hey! RU-vid flagged this comment for review and didn't tell me, so I just saw it. I don't know if I'd agree that I've bought into a fantasy-I think I recognize the good and bad of capitalism and I feel that, though some of it works, things could be feasibly improved. My long-term hopes for humanity are a bit pie-in-the-sky, I'll give you that, but right now I'm really more hopeful about small changes. The U.S. is already a mixed economy, I'd just love to see things get a bit more equitable. Any time I say something like "capitalism bad" I recognize that I'm minimizing a huge discussion. A more accurate summation of my views might be "capitalism worse than needs to be." In any case, I respect your stance and I appreciate you.
@@thatguyfromtexas13 It's a bold assumption to say that there would be fewer board games without capitalism, when one of the biggest issues with capitalism at the moment is how much it forces people into a specific mold to survive in modern society. Imagine how many more games there could be if people had the time and resources to chase their passions? Also most peoples criticism of capitalism is more so late stage capitalism. I personally think capitalism is the ideal economic structure, but that ideal is very very different from what we have at the moment.
@@Binzobthe free market is good, corporatism removes part of the element from the free market by removing consequences and insulating decision makers because corporations are separate entities. This is what think is the issue but most people don’t understand the nuances and they rush to the simple answer of throwing capitalism out the window for a much worse system with even fewer options.
@@boardandsaviorgames Ark nova, to me, is a different game. There is hardly any interaction on a common board. TFM: you place a tree, I will plot a city right next to it. I will hold off doing double action, till you are out, and then get double bumps giving me an additional bonus etc. Ark Nova isn't an engine builder either if you ask me.
Saw people playing a 6 player game of Spirit Island at PAX.. and I just had to shake my head and walk away Great game at 1/2p though! You should try Too Many Bones next. Also, Spirit Island is not Yucatan. You got it mixed up.
Ya know. I'm done watching anti-capitalist youtubers. Invent a better system and prove it's use in practice or GTFO. The only reason you have variety in board games is due to capitalism.
@@boardandsaviorgames no system is perfect but not liking; the only system in all of history to bring millions of people out of poverty, give individuals the right to control their own destiny, and even self correct it's own downside (like environmental woes of the past, or social injustice); is kinda crazy... The corrupt want to bring in socialism so they can have all the power and there is a huge brainwashing campaign going on. Keeping politics and activism out of your videos is a safe bet for anyone these days
It's a shame you couldn't dial down the crazy on the first board game. Gonna have to pass on the rest of the video because of it. I did appreciate you setting up the game you're talking about though
You were going to get a fantastic series of compliments and I had every intention of sharing your content on our webpage...but then you had to get political and continued to do so!! When people tune into a video about board games...nobody cares or is going to get swayed by your snarky political comments!
Really enjoyed your videos and the content you have put out! We have a lot of crossovers as favorites for sure! Keep up the awesome content, can’t wait to watch more.
Great vid! Me and my friends have played a lot of Catan in the last year, it's been a lot of fun but we are starting to look at a new game to try out. Which game would you recommend? Would like it to be competetive and work with 3-4 players 😁 Doesnt have to be from this list
Maybe give Century: Spice Road a try? It’s not too big, not too complicated, but it makes you feel pretty smart and introduces a few essential board gaming mechanisms that Catan doesn’t have!
