iElectric’s Dyno Rhodes handles most of my e-piano requirements. It’s small-ish footprint in byte terms is appreciated too. I run audio out of my iPad into analog effects, then into an amp.
They are all fantastic EP apps and I am fortunate enough to have acquired all three over time when they have been on sale. Each has its own advantages and I couldn't really decide which is best for me. Great demo, thanks Doug.
NeoSoul and Ilectric have very interesting features, but Korg Module is the most structured to guarantee a professional performance, integrated in a complete platform and with a sound, designed to go out on a mixer with a pleasant playability.
I chose the right time to be born. Okay, that didn’t happen, but that Neo Soul Keys sounds incredible! The Scarbee is cool too, but not quite as easy to get what I want. It is nice that it’s inside a program that does everything I need, but it’s not hard to get NSK to play well with other apps. Of course the iLectric is actually sweet! Especially when you consider that it’s easy on your iPad’s memory.
iLectric takes up less room, plays well with Audiobus (which can't be said of a lot of things). Sampling is not my format of choice, but iLectric covers a lot of bases, has enough of the Hohner slop built in, the Yamaha stuff is a bonus. It's inexcusable in my mind for Neo Soul to be the size it is. Why there isn't a decent modeled E piano on iOS is equally inexcusable. So for the sake of dependability and low overhead iLectric sits in the mix and works. It benefits from that ability to play well with Audiobus when you tack on extra FX. Lack of FX is the real drawback of iLectric, bu tif you want a full on nasty Rhodes experience pull up the Chuck Monte Dyno and run it through a pedal board in Audiobus. How many of us remember playing rhythm guitar for a ZZ Top cover on a Clav and Distortion +? When it comes to electric piano find one you live with as a source and turn it into what you need ti to be. For the purists out there I was the N.A. Product manager for a physically modeled piano and if ANYONE were to release a Rhodes to a Bosendorfer warts and all they'd run out of town on a rail. This is a fair comparison sans the (no offense) usual 1:40 intro. Thanks.
iLectric is looped very badly, if you listen to the individual notes carefully, you highlight all the limits and defects of sound engineering and loops.
I don’t know if I am not configuring neo soul properly but to my ears it sounds bizarre and with that mechanical sound that I don’t understand. Can that strange sound be bypassed? Module appeals to me and has such a wide range of tones. I can’t choose one based on who created it or a nostalgic thing. It sounds good or it doesn’t. It sounds more like a piano or it doesn’t. So many things are popular because of trends. One day clean tones are popular . Suddenly everyone wants lofi when not so long ago no one wanted it. It’s incredible how trends govern taste rather than ears.
Yes I think Neo Soul requires more configuration and Korg sounds more on point out of the box. Neo Soul is better for really geeking on the EP type and getting a very precise mix of mechanical sounds. One thing you can do is start with one of the nicer sounding presets, like a "cream" one and tweaking settings up from that.
You’re right! I had the standard neo soul keys not neo soul keys studio. Not sure why they have two paid apps with different functions!! Think I wasted some money here!!
