I use the canson xl sketchbook pretty consistently and the binding is definitely a problem sometimes. the back cover tends to come partially loose and a few pages will follow. I've never had it come completely apart even shoved in a backpack I treat pretty roughly though
@@hasan_usman depending on the marker I tend to get it definitely bleeding through on the back of the page and some spots on the next page. if I'm using marker I usually put a scrap piece of paper behind the page and it's fine
Thanks for another brilliant video! If you like the moleskine watercolour sketchbooks you should try the watercolour ones from Seawhite of Brighton if you can get them where you live. I find that the quality is slightly more reliable and the size is slightly bigger and more of an a5 size / shape.
LMAO IVE NEVER HEARD AN AMERICAN SAY “BLOODY “ 😂😂...I didn’t really like the Canson when I used it bc of the medium i work with..and a pet peeve I hate is when I’m working with charcoal AND I CAN SEE THE FIBERS OF THE PAPER AND IT RIPPS WHEN PRESSED AND NOT LIFTABLE...don’t use too much water color bc it does buckle
My mom is a first generation English immigrant, so I grew up with her and my grandparents saying it a ton haha. And yeah, my Canson Mix Media is falling apart now and I’m just frustrated 😂 high key wish I recommended a different notebook. Maybe the medium sized strathmore O-ring notebooks?
Ekpap I’m nottt even sure what I personally recommend...I’m trying to find good paper for charcoal, watercolor and markers bc I use them the most and I have found NOTHING..maybe strathmore?
Finding paper that works for charcoal, watercolor, and markers is gonna be difficult primarily because watercolor paper is super heavy and thick, with quite a lot of tooth. Whereas marker paper is going to be lighter, almost silky. I’ve only worked with charcoal a few times, so I’m not sure about that medium 😄 I would maybe check out some of Strathmore’s lineup!
Ekpap here’s an update. Canson is good. Not as good as others but good for water color cuz I just got done with a moleskine art one. You can’t blend charcoal, can’t use markers, water color makes the paper turn a different texture and can’t mix, and even pencils feel weird on it. But I’m going to use it for inktober
Thanks for the video man! I wish you to best of luck for you channel. Although I'm kidna disappointed as I think I can't buy these sketchbooks here in India...
Thank you!! Oh and moleskine is pronounced mole-skin (or that’s what most people on RU-vid say) but this is a really good video!! It helps me!! I have been flying through sketchbooks!! I finished three sketchbooks in only 3 months!!
@@chhhyu Okay so I did a few experiments, and it seems that only the really dark markers bleed through, and multiple coats of lighter markers. The paper seems to soak up the markers semi-quickly, but not quick enough to make mixing impossible.
This video brought much serotonin, thank you :0. I'm used to sketchbooks with over 100 sheets and can hold a light amount of watercolor (basically mixed media I guess??), so recently finding one has been really hard. I'm thinking about investing in Moleskine, although they're pricy and the number of sheets isn't that much :( any tips or recommendations?
Haha thanks! 😄 And yes! I used the Strathmore 400 series for university this year. It’s a mixed media sketchbook with 100 pages, it’s pages are a tad light compared to most other mixed media being 60 lbs. Finding a sketchbook with higher paper thickness over 100 sheets is difficult because the thicker the paper, the less paper companies usually put into the notebooks. But I’d recommend the strathmore, here: www.amazon.com/dp/B0027A39PY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_B1mcFbRJ95PV0 For something more focused on heavy water coloring that is under 100 sheets, I would honestly go with a strathmore watercolor notebook. It will definitely produce better results if you plan on using more water color, but it only has around 50 pages: www.amazon.com/dp/B008HTD0BC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_48mcFb9VNM0XE
I would have to agree, Field Notes are definitely pricy, and there are some field notes (particularly the Kraft series) that fall apart real quick. But if you do want one that lasts, I would say the best way to go might be the new spring edition, aka “vignette”. They have a double backed cardboard cover that’s much more rigid compared to other releases of Field Notes.
Depends on the markers! If it’s alcohol based markers, they will almost always bleed through at some point. The Moleskine has the most bleed resistance in my experience though!
Honestly same I had no idea what I was talking about when I made that video. I just thought it was important. (learned later it’s the thickness of the paper, but I have no idea why they describe it using pounds lol)
