Lovely. 1961. My birth year. I found Constance Spry books at a hospice shop. I love paging through them. I have David Austin's Ambridge and Squire growing. Bunny Guinness is related to David Austin. Check her youtube channel out.
Actually I love pink roses. Today I am fascinated to the yellows. :) Especially the combination of the Golden shower and the green bed is gorgeous. Thank you for these lovely rose images.
I bet you put a smile on everyone who walks by your fence. The fragrance in the air, the beauty, it is a gift of charity to share with your neighbors every day.
Your roses are so healthy Claus, great selection. I love roses and my mother named me Rose so I have no excuse but to adore them. I I’ve in Australia and most new gardens just don’t grow them. Mine is full of roses . We have had an amazing reader in the early 20 century here called Alistair Clark, he breed for Australian conditions. One of his in my garden has just had a flush and it is June mid winter! Loving your video. Thank you
Mr. Claus Dalby you are such a wonderful person. Watching/listening to you talk about your garden is incredibly peaceful for me. Every time I finish watching I am smiling from ear to ear. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and your beautiful garden.

So many beautiful roses- how does one choose ? And they all look so healthy - no bug damage- no yellow leaves . Perfect. I always thought that the most beautiful roses had no fragrance and vice versa but you have proved my theory incorrect. These all look beautiful with excellent fragrances-
Your video is fantastic and definitely inspires me. Thank you Sir. I remember Golden Showers and Gold Bunny from my childhood during the 60s and 70s .. I have not seen it again until now. Your climbers are exquisite. Did you say the 2nd pink climber next to Kordes peach is Alloha?
So glad I came across your channel here in New Zealand. Your presentation skills are great, so informative! Wondered if you could tell me how many Constance Spry roses were planted in that area?
I love them all! I discovered David Austin roses from watching Garden Answers channel. Being a relatively newer gardener I didn't know that they existed. Nevertheless, yours are all just so stunning. Im simply in love with them all. I only have three in my small garden Lady Emma Hamilton, Charles Darwin and the Wedgewood. Can I request a how to video? Care tips on plants would be informative something along the lines of pesticide use in the spring to fertilization for rebloom to the fall. I've learned so much from Laura but it would be nice to hear your thoughts aswell. Laura may have mentioned, the first year roses creep, the second year they sleep and the third year they leap when planting them ininitially. My Wedgewood is so sleepy!! I don't know if I'm doing something wrong. I did put a vigorous fireworks climatis behind the rose. I wonder if that is causing my rose to grow slowly? I guess I'll find out next year.
David Austin English roses are always an investment in time and PATIENCE. Also, prune lightly, leave longer canes than you might with other hybrid roses.
Such a nice walk through of some of your climbing roses. Your Constace Spry is famous here in Scandinavia thanks to your books. It is very impressive. All the ones you showed us looked great. How I wished I could fit in more roses and peonies
I love it when gardens extend beyond their walls onto the street - a gift of beauty to all. Jayne Austin is my favourite yellow rose with its honey and spice fragrance.
Those Roses are truly Beautiful and Enchanting.... Thank you for sharing your collections of Beautiful Roses...Claus Dalby. All good wishes to you and yours.
Heard a comment that has always stuck with me regarding David Austen roses - “ Reproduction antique.” Kinda spoilt them for me. Do love the Kordes catalogue.
Beautiful roses, Claus! Maybe next time you can show us how you would them in an arrangement! My favorite David Austin rose is Abraham Darby; the fragrance is intoxicating!!! Sadly, mine succumbed to some unknown malady… 🙁
3:19 Hi Claus, on your fence wall, how many Constance Spry do you have there? I have a 1.2m tall fence, about 6m long. I am thinking to get a Constance Spry or Kathleen Harrop. But not sure if Constance S is too big for my 1.2m tall fence. Thank U!
Beautiful roses! I have so much trouble with roses. Maybe sometime you could talk about ideal growing conditions for roses or your growing conditions. Thank you.
I love Pilgrim the most among the 5 ramblers. I wish to find that for my garden someday. thank you for all the information and history - they make growing these roses even more interesting.
Love this video it inspires me, beautiful roses! I'm going to the David Austin nursery in England next month on my birthday to find 4 climbers for my new pergola. I'm thinking 3 Strawberry hill pink Rose's and one pink The Generous Gardener. I'm so excited😁
Oh my goodness Claus you are a man after my own heart! I absolutely adore climbing roses. A majority of mine are ramblers and old roses. I do have my porch railings covered in Zephirine Drouhin roses. Zephirine's bourbon rose scent is totally intoxicating! I have not had the pleasure yet of growing Constance Spry. She is a beautiful climber and a once blooming rose to me is just fine. Actually to me they are just a better performing rose. How many Constance Spry's do you have planted on your trellis? How much spread do they have? As always thank you for sharing your garden. God bless
I have Zephirine Drouhin too, its thornless stems make it unique I think. I agree its scent is divine. Have you read "sweet cypress"? this rose is evidence for the defense!!!
Hi Catherine, I just went on your name to see pictures or video of this rose but you haven’t uploaded any, sounds like you have an amazing garden you should do so. Wish I had a porch to grow this on. I garden in Australia happy gardening
@@anderjpoo Do you mean Agatha Christie's Sad Cypress? I do remember a rose bush and thorns were part of the evidence, didn't remember the name though. Was it truly Zephirine Drouhin? That's so interesting! Gonna go listen to the audiobook again!
What is the average height of climbers, we planted 2 David Austin Icebergs on our new pergola, it’s their 2nd year and the haven’t gone much over 2 metres, should we have planted ramblers?
I enjoy your videos so much. I am very sorry, that I do not no the names of my Rose's. What would you do if you want to find out a forgotten name? Is there a book or an app? Thanks!
I so enjoyed watching this video. I may introduce a rose into my garden beds at some point, but I live in south (Tennessee) and the oppressive humidity makes growing roses a bit more difficult without constant spraying of insecticides/fungicides. We also deal with rose rosette disease which will decimate roses.
I love my Abraham Darby rose from David Austin. At first I thought the Alchemist was the same because they look the same. But Abraham is a repeat flowerer. So fragrant.
I enjoyed your video very much Claus. I too love roses. I have many including The Pilgrim Climbing Rose which is currently out in flower and extends to around 4m X 6m. I too have an Aloha and Golden Showers which are also out in flower at the moment and are lovely. Another favourite of mine is Mme. Alfred Carriere Climbing Rose. This starts flowering very early, smells gorgeous and repeats right up until at least November. Another one I really love is Compassion Climbing Rose. Repeats well and smells like Aloha. If you'd like to see my roses they are on RU-vid at 'Peter Haymaker'. Thanks for sharing your garden.
What a gorgeous rose hedge Claus! David Austin roses….romantic and most fragrant….my favourite of all roses! How many roses do you have per square metre of fence? Thanks for showing us your beautiful roses with us Claus! Roses 🌹
Can you please show us how you mount the trellis for the climbing roses on the walls of your house. My house is brick and I don’t know how to do this without making it look ugly. Thank you, Claus, for your incredible videos!
I enjoyed seeing your climbing roses so much. It is lovely to see how you created a gorgeous wall of blooms. I have just begun my collection of David Austin roses this year.
Lovely! Pouring with winter rain here in southern Australia today, so nice to see the soft warmth of a European spring and I can imagine I can smell the roses! I know the plants are working away underground and will burst forth in their season. Can we know what your other plants are too please, like the chartreuse grass? I always prefer to see roses surrounded by other plants rather than out on their own. Looking forward to seeing more of your channel, thank you!
