*European ethnos* shining brightly. Amazing. My fellow European people, worldwide, we're _far more older than Christianity!_ Much respect to the Latvian people.
I found this because i started looking into European culture, i grabbed something to eat and couldnt write out any interesting things on websites and stuff so i looked up Latvian songs and founds this. Wow, just wow. I cant believe this happened and i didnt know about it, so beautiful. More people need to know about events like this, real people with their real culture and not media bs, especially with how *massive* this event was.
This festival happens in Latvia every 5 years if I’m correct. It is very massive thing in Latvia and for Latvians. But I really don’t know why it’s not mentioned anywhere internationally 😕
I'm Lithuanian. I must say respect for you Latvians, what a great festival you made. The first song is exceptional, especially the end. I can imagine the feeling being there at that moment. Keep your traditions, and never give them up.
@@MartinWinter99 I'm sorry to break this to you, but there certainly has been a very pure, genuine and first and foremost organic culture in the Baltics for a long time. It still manifests itself in songs and festivals like this. To accept and understand this is staying open to the world. Trying to mix everything together for short term comfort and gain under the modern capital lead way of life is not. The Baltics have some of the most original and pure European culture left in them, in many ways. I hope it stays this way.
@@MartinWinter99 You can't wash away DNA in one generation it takes multiple generations and from one and the same source. If you mix Latvian with German and in the next generation Russian, then you are more Latvian than anything else. In next generations you can regain most of the DNA what you loosed. So the Baltic DNA is strictly distinct from other regions, but all 3 countries have very similar despite language differences. See Masaman channel for reference "The Rise and Fall of the Balts".
We have this festival it is called "dziesmu un deju svētķi/song and dance festival"there we sing our tradicionla song and we dance in our tradicional songs,im so happy that i live in latvia :)
I was there in 1990 and sung with them only 3 songs. It was absolutely amazing, the experience as no other, we were so happy singing there. The only choir from a different country, only 12 singers from Venezuela. We were invited by the Music Conservatory of Riga, and sung all around Latvia. I have not words to describe how beautiful, inspiring, and deep was our experience there. Pal Dies!
It really is. Latvia is one of the most peaceful, beautiful and welcoming places on the planet, where it's culture is magnificent and wonderful in every way shape or form. I'm proud to be a Latvian, and always will be. And it's you, precious people that acknowledge us, our country, Latvia.
You should add one thing to your bucket list - be there when it's live! I promise you the feeling is totally different than listening from your computer. I was singing there and it was my favorite summer of all the time! IT'S AMAZING!
@@mdjey2 It's a bit difficult to place Finland in any "Block" of countries so to speak. We are not really Scandinavians or Baltics either, but in between I guess. Once in our history Pre-WWII there was actually a strong political drive by certain groups to align Finland with the Baltics and obviously we have a lot in common with the Baltic countries, but usually Finland has never been considered Baltic. I think we should co-operate far more with the Baltics though!
Songs are as follows: 5. - Lec, saulīte! (Rise, sun!) - a song about remembering who you are, the teachings of old, clarity of mind and purpouse, and a hope for better days ahead. 4. - Manai dzimtenei (For my homeland) - a song of defiance against impossible odds and a grim fate, a rememberance in-song about the freedomfighters of old who stood their ground in face of certain death to defend their homes, hoping their sacrifice would lead to a better future for the people. 3. - rokoperas LĀČPLĒSIS fragmenti (exempts from the rock-opera "Bear-ripper") - a song about a metaphorical small child that is Latvia who finds itself in crossroads, surrounded by beating hooves and rolling wheels, with a dreaded sense that time is running out. Ultimately, a song about a country calling out to its people to help find its way. 2. - Virs galvas mūžīgs Piena ceļš (Above my head a Milky Way eternal) - A song about travel, seeing the world, but ultimately finding your way back home. A song about how one might think the grass is greener elsewhere, but the greenest will always be back home. A song about finding where you belong, finding a way to your "happy land" and realizing it was your home all along. 1. - Saule, Pērkons, Daugava (Sun, Thunder, Daugava (largest river in Latvia)) - A song of strength. About gaining strength from the white sea, the green hills and plains and the unyielding people who have always endured. A song about the gods of old: Sun - the bringer of life and fulfillment; Thunder - the patriarch of all the gods and god of creation and the sky, the smiter of foes; and Daugava - depicted as the river of fate and bringer of omens. How they all once came together to forge the land, and afterwards, the people to defend it.
@@carolinafreimanis3040 Could be a real possiblity. I recall my grandmother telling me we had some distant relatives over in the US and/or Canada. Not sure where though. My father has spent a great deal of time pouring over the myheritage family trees, he has managed to re-construct the family roots back to the 1600s, back when surnames weren't even used yet.
Thank you for the song descriptions it brings us non Latvians a much better understanding that can resonate regardless of where your homeland may be. Greetings from my homeland here in Scotland.
Wow! This Latvian tradition is totally beautiful! 🇱🇻 Can't wait to go to there to see that wonderful tradition in real and also to learn Latvian 😊 Greetings from Perú 🇵🇪
Thank You Da Man! This is our reaction to constant oppression against our land, which basically spans more than 1500 years. Vikings, German crusaders, Prussia, Various czars, Nazis/bolsheviks (WW 1+2), you name it. Nothing can break a true latvian :)
This reminds me a little of the national song of Wales, which has the same soaring hope and pride of a people in their land. And it is wonderful music from a brave country that survived so much pain and darkness to rise again.
Herzlichsten Dank!!!
Manny times i had the honor to be in Latvia. Ive seen all the corners of this more than beautyfull country, i can truly say I have much respect for this country, its people and im happy to see that Latvia is reconnecting with Europe and taking its righfull place among brother nations in the free world . Ive grown fond of this country and its proud people , And they have every right to be proud of such a history , ruined by war and communism and still not broken... Respect for Latvia and its people , best regards from Holland ..
I was singing in 2018 Lithuanian Song and Dance Festival, and thought it was cool, but man, after hearing this... I learned my 3 first latvian songs ASAP, as they are soooo beautiful... and language is not that difficult for a native lithuanian. Reminders of our Baltic pagan roots, our past as tribes that kept eternal flame in mounds, and offering goods to Gods Perkūnas, Laima, Gabija and others near sacred rivers of Daugava (Latvians) or Nemunas (Lithuanians).
Sveiki! I was wondering do you have similar format there? I was trying to find like a closing concert, but somehow can't. I did find however Ansamblių vakaras „Tėvyne mūsų“ which I found very magnificent and with a kind of ancient vibe.

Correction. We are not Nordic people. We are Baltic, just like Lithuanians. But thank you for your appreciation for our culture and history! We Latvians are way too stubborn to go down easily!
I love it whole. The folklore, the choir, the dancing, musicians, soloists, it was whole a great feast in instruments voices and traditions. ..There is no better than seeing people enjoying what they are currently doing. And that was the case, every one here, gave 200% of their willingness. ..I just luv it. Thank Ye Oskars, for having shared that feast with me.

I can't wait for each country in this world to understand what unity through music really means like I can see and feel Latvia knows! I'm not with family this christmas but this energy everyone generates through the art of connecting through singing makes me feel at home 👀🌿🤍
@samo zeleno Christianity is not Paganism my friend. What you are saying is purely regurgitated Abrahamic propaganda that people have been taught for many many years. Satanism is what you are thinking of when it comes to "dark". Real Paganism is purely a folk religion and has nothing to do with evil. It is the light.
Glad to hear that they showed it in Germany. Maybe that could be some inspiration for them since they have basically lost all their pride of their culture and race since 1945 when the winners wrote a phony history for them and they were forced to believe it and teach it in school ever since. It is really sad how they have come down and almost want to disown their ancestors. Yes, they want to disown the history they are taught is theirs, well maybe they sense that it can't be the truth.
Oh my!!! So very beautiful. I was not taught my Lithuanian tradition. My heart & soul seeks, rejoicing in this!!! I would love to be there . Suzanne Patricia Zemaitis-Morrow
Such a moving and inspiring beginning to my day as I watch and listen to this awesome performance. I have tears in my eyes and am thankful to have heard about this from a dear friend, Marc, who was there singing. Beautiful people, all!
Congratulations and Greatings from Moldavia ! Felicitări și Salutări din Moldova ! The world is more beautiful with Latvia /and Lithuania and Estonia as well/. I was in your country in February 1976 and I hope to go back one day.
Most of the lyrics can be found on dziesmas.lv, for example, for the first song: www.dziesmas.lv/d/Lec_saulite/23735 Translations (subtitles) of these songs and more: ru-vid.com/show-UCK4hhbGI70acNwPDJphS_4A (many thanks to Līga Saule)
Just for info- this event happens every 4 years since 1873 with exceptions during both world wars. There is also school song and dance festival which is just as big and happens in the alternating years (2012, 2016, 2020..)

Estonians have pretty much the same genetic material with their Baltic neighbours (yes, the second closest is with finno-ugric Finns) - it's mostly the language and history difference.
If you only knew how much closer Estonians are to other Finnics than to Balts. Thinking otherwise just tells you don't know enough Finnic history. Balts too are widely Finnic by genetics nowadays due to Livonians.
Wow. The crowd is pretty small compared to the estonian singing Festival... 😂Just kiddin we are Brothers🇪🇪🇱🇹🇱🇻 (nearly) Same culture, Tradition and history
I actually was wondering, do you guys have singing for two days or one? We have the general rehearsal day before which is almost the same with all crowd just without afterparty which is in clothing concert.
@Kolnu Andrius ,
