It's always a pleasure to hear different opinions and tastes. I'm a guy of fifty, who's been shaving with safety razors for 35 years. The long time has given me the opportunity to select the best of the best (and dump the rest). My selection finally ended as follows: 1. No chrome plated crap, no aluminum, no alloys, no brass, no titanium, just stainless steel. I've only kept stainless steel razors for their excellent weight and durability. 2. No inefficient crap. The Feather AS-D2 is unacceptable for me because it practically doesn't shave. 3. Knurled handle is a must. 4. No similar models. Just the best one of each type. 5. Well, there actually are just two types of safety razors: adjustable and non-adjustable. 6. I've decided to keep only two razors: one adjustable and one non-adjustable, both stainless steel, efficient and top quality. 7. I finally ended up only keeping and using two best safety razors: the adjustable Taiga made by HomeLikeShaving, and the non-adjustable Edwin Jagger 3ONE6. Neither can be beaten by any other razor, since their quality and properties can't be better. And how about comparing the Taiga with the 3ONE6? There are perhaps two approaches. The first approach may refuse comparing two safety razors with different systems - one adjustable and one non-adjustable. The other approach, however, may insist that everything is comparable, once your choice is limited to only one. The questions then is: "If I was only allowed to keep one safety razor, would that be the 3ONE6 or the Taiga?" I find imaging this limitation somewhat stressing because, sincerely, I don't know the answer. I'd probably have to toss a coin, but leaving either razor would be a sad moment. Take care, Rich.
Thank you, Rich. You mentioned some that I hadn't seen or heard of. Will have to check them out. You did mention the Parker Variant. I had one and liked it a lot, but it broke without any provocation. For fear that it might also break "spontaneously," I didn't want to buy another. I'm doing fine with my Rockwell 6S (and 6C). Thanks again for introducing me to these others, which I'll check out. Best wishes, guy.
The Rockwell 6S is my favourite. But I’m really keen to get the Muhle41. Never used any Muhle razor so far, and the 41’s reputation makes me long to get it for myself.
Thanks Rich!! I definitely have to try some of these out eventually. I'm just starting out with DE wet shaving and have used your lather technique which I love!! I'm currently using a bigfoot butterfly open razor, but have to make several passes. Lol, didn't have a lot of money at the time, so I'm now in the market for something a lot better. Just want to say, love your vids, keep them coming man!
I see that you keep the blades inside the razors. I prefer keeping them apart for preventing posible galvanic corrosion. Nice collection of razors Rich.
The R41, bar none is my absolute favorite razor. Due to my Italian/Arabic coarse, thick beard, nothing else gives me a BBS like the R41. I hate my Future...any buyers?
Seth, I'm selling my Future on Damn Fine Shave Website for I think $50, normally they are around $70 to $75. Also, half of the handle is dipped in black Plastidip since the grip is horrible.
Very nice video :) But hell! You have some really wavering hands. If you're nervous, be sure that there is no reason for. You do a great job man :D Can you give us some recommendations, which blades are the best for DE razors? Would be nice! Oh...and if you don't understand what i'm writing about...english is not my best second language ^^
If I could only have one razor I probably would not go with the R41. I would probably go with the Merkur Futur since it is adjustable or possibly the Rockwell 6S. The 6S costs a little more because it is stainless steel and is also adjustable. Also if you choose the 6S I recommend purchasing the stand that comes with it. Also, if this is going to be your first razor I would have to steer you away from the R41 as a first razor to learn on because of its aggressive blade exposure. Looks can be deceiving on this razor. It has some bite! The people who do shave with the R41 razor are usually more experienced and love it! Its aggressive blade exposure can take a beard down with ease. It can also easily cut a beginner.
Shaving With Rich: Rich I want one of your big knot, big ass handle, synthetic, ultra bright green handle brushes....put a link here and I’ll click on it and I’ll purchase it.
Hi. What would you recommend for me? I am shaving once every 2 days and I don`t have a heavy or coarse beard. I`m using right now a Muehle R89 but I would preffer an adjustable razor.
Obviously bro you have a couple of trolls or haters his followers. In that wacky? LOL why would someone who doesn't like you, continue watching? You have two dislikes and that's totally stupid because I watch this entire video there is not one thing offensive inside and it is totally professional with some of the best information given. Thanks for sharing this video. You're one awesome person imho. Too bad they have never taken the time to find out. If they are reading this, you need to find something to do with your life and your time. Smfh
Thanks for your list of favorite razors. If you ever care to try another aggressive razor, try the closed comb iKon Tech. Compared to the Mühle R41, it's at another level of aggression. At their highest settings, which of your three adjustable razors would you rate as the most aggressive -- or most efficient? One said the Parker Variant (at it's highest setting) shaves similarly to the Mühle R41 and iKon Tech, but smoother. Thanks!
Having both the Mühle R41 and iKon Tech, I'd rate the Mühle R41 a '9' for aggression, but give the iKon Tech an '11'. I'd call the iKon Tech 'The Reaper'. I still haven't been able to get a comfortable 3 pass shave without developing some form of razor burn. I'm starting to incorporate single passes into shaves (then finishing with the Mühle R41) until I can do 3 comfortable passes -- always with no pressure and stretched skin. Rather odd, since it's closed comb.
