I am a brand-spanking-new watercolor student - one week! - in my older adulthood, and I am so glad to have discovered you! I appreciate how you actually demonstrate different techniques for each brush, by including an array of brushes. I have already experienced how watercolor paper and brushes can make a HUGE different in my feelings of success. I don't do social media (Facebook/Meta), so I am trying to figure out how to use Patreon so I can continue to learn an art medium that I've always wanted to be friends with. Thank you!
Are you a teacher? You are so good at giving all the needed information in a very precise and no nonsense manner, that it’s easy to follow and understand! Thanks,
Thank 😊 you Ellen! Watched before but needed a review! Ha!!! I'm a beginner, of course I need a review of everything! Love your fun style of teaching 😉 With love, a California Gramma ❤
So far, this is THE BEST brush information and uses video that I've seen! Nice explanations of the brushes and practical applications, so THANK YOU very much for this video!!
Lady brushes aren’t my first rodeo and I almost didn’t watch.......and yet you taught me several new things. So always remember follow the map or you fall o fa the cliff. Or in my case have soooo many lovely brushes that are the same. 🤣. Thanks so much for sharing and I have watched others Channels not sure if I’m not stupid or if I was just not listening right but I’m pretty sure they didn’t explain them the same way. Thanks again. Big fan. Happiest of New Years to you and yours!!
Thank you so much Ellen. This was quite useful. Also thank you for keeping your channel so practical, and to the point. I am so glad to have found a channel that is not full of fillers. My paintings have much improved since subscribing to your channel. Thanks!
I have started watching your videos a while ago and I do love them, especially as you explain how to draw different things... Iam an absolute beginner that helps a lot. For Christmas I have been given watercolor pencils. I have not seen you using them. Do you? Please keep up doing these tutorials... Iam trying everything you show. Greetings from Germany.
What a fabulous video. I'm a little bit more than a beginner and have painted acrylics before trying watercolor and I must say I do get confused when confronted with all the brushes at the art store. This little tutorial has been extremely useful, many thanks!
A wonderful, informative video -- love seeing your choices and what can be done with them. I wish I'd seen this about 12 hours ago before I placed my order with the Brush Guys! Actually, I got quite a few of them but probably would have had a much bigger order! Do you use any special cleaners or conditioners to maintain your brushes? Thanks again and have a wonderful New Year!
I pretty much stuck with Princeton so I'm hoping, since you use them, that they'll do me well. I used some of your ideas for Christmas cards and between hairs falling out of my student grade brushes and hair that's falling from chemo, I spent a good bit of time picking strays from my work, LOL!
Thank you for this tutorial Ellen as I've just started water colors in Nov. This was very helpful!!! The Oval brush....is it referred to by some as a mop brush??
Hi Ellen. Merry Christmas to you and your family. Do you ever use Dagger brushes by any chance or do you know how they should be used at all? I really found this video very interesting, thank you for making it. I hope you have a happy New Year. God bless you all. 😀
Ellen is there a beginners watercolor color theory book you could recommend on Amazon? I want to study this and wonder where I should start . . . Have you ever taught this? Just curious . . . 🥳 Happy New Year!
A part of watercolor that I think many teachers overlook: how to use your brush(es). Basic information, I supposed, but so many people don't know how to handle their brushes. Would you consider a lesson, or lessons, that help put these brushes to use in a painting?
Muy interesante. Muchísimas gracias. No sé inglés pero veo los tipos de pinceles y cómo y para qué los usas. Se ve que tienes maestría. Ojalá yo llegue a ser como tú.
Search for "Princeton Neptune Fine Watercolor Brushes" at Jerry's Artarama. Amazon has the same type in the Princeton Aqua Elite line (Synthetic Kolinsky Sable) if you search there for it. It costs a bit more than this beginner is willing to pay but I found and just ordered what looks to be a comparable brush from a quality maker at Jerry's. "Silver Silk 88 Cat's Tongue" will hopefully be a good alternative to the Princeton. I think this type of pointed oval wash brush may be refered to as tongue or cat's tongue, too.
