I didn't make a lot in 2023, because I just started learning to sew, and I haven't been able to give it as much time as I'd have liked. What I'm most proud of from the things I've made was the Rosie Cap by Mad Cap Hats. Not only did I think it was so cute when I first saw it, I have an aunt named Rosie, and thought it would great if I could make one for her. I made one for myself first, to learn the pattern better, and I love my hat so much. I made a matching neck warmer scarf to go with it, and I'm just so happy every time I put on my hat. I did make one for my aunt that I'm also super proud of, and she says she loves it, so I hope she enjoys wearing hers too. And, I've learned that I really enjoy making hats, so I think there will be more hat-making this year as I continue my sewing adventures. I loved seeing your list, and it was fun revisiting some of your makes with you. Can't wait to see what you create this year. It's hard to choose, but I think my favorite of your makes might be the plaid dress. Such a beautiful fabric, and I'm so impressed with your attention to detail and the way you changed the direction of the check to add interest.

I just had a look at the Rosie Cap pattern, and it looks like a really a great style. It also looks pretty ambitious for a beginner, so awesome job managing to nail it on your first attempt! It's so sweet that you thought of your aunt and made one for her, as well. It's wonderful to be able to share our craft with others. I'm sure she will feel just as happy as you do, putting on the hat that you made her. I always enjoy working on a sewing project, where I am able to use some of my creativity in the design. Those are some of the most satisfying things to make. Have fun experimenting as your sewing skills develop!

Oh Theresa! You so deserve LOTS of pats on your back for these makes. They are all absolutely gorgeous and worthy of their category allocation. My favourite is your red Burnside Bibs, which, funnily enough, I have on my sewing list for this year after putting them off last year, just because of the belt loops 🤣 Yours have inspired me to slow down, take my time and enjoy the process. Thanks so much for a wonderful vlog.
@LostMyThread
@LostMyThread 8 месяцев назад
The belt loops are really not that bad! While it is a somewhat more involved process, it was a very enjoyable pattern to sew. I think you'll really enjoy making yours, and I hope you love your finished bibs as much as I love mine. Thanks for watching!

Love your corduroy jacket. I agree with you that the colour is gorgeous and the Sherpa lining and buttons set it off so well. Also love your Burnside Bibs and thank you for pointing out the alternative view - much more flattering. This year, I have been most inspired by your remakes; it’s amazing how a small tweak can help a garment move from zero to hero. I have now done quite a few myself and it is so satisfying to be able to analyse what needs to be done to make a garment more wearable. Thanks for all the inspiration!

I made my 1 and 5 year old granddaughters pants out of a little over a yard of organic velour. At first I thought there would be enough for the 5 year old. Then I made one for the 1 1/2 year old. Then I squeezed in a sweatshirt for the 5 year old. Then I made the 1 year old a sweatshirt with a yolk and 2-3 inch strips for the front bodice and a seam down the back. Then a headband, then two scrunches! So proud, and they were so cute!

The refashion of a refashion that worked out in the end as a skirt, didn't look right on you as a dress with bright pink contrast, because it was high contrast between the two values of colours of the fabric. And your skin and hair tone are medium to low contrast in colour value. I just learned about this. I couldn't figure out why some combinations looked great of someone else who could wear the same colours as me, but looked silly on me. The skirt is a fairly light shade, but the pink was a bright deep colour, leading to the high contrast. Apparently we look best in the same amount of contrast as our hair, skin, and eye colour are to each other. That much contrast looks ridiculous on me too, especially when it is colours rather than neutrals, but if you know who Bobo Bun is on RU-vid (a retro fashion sewist of really gorgeous clothing), she would have looked stunning in the contrast because her skin, hair, and eye tone is high contrast. It explained a lot to me why I wasn't comfortable wearing certain combinations of colours, even though the colours individually looked great on me. I hope this made sense.
@LostMyThread
@LostMyThread 8 месяцев назад
I think that may be part of the issue, for sure. As it happens, I think I will get so much more wear out of it as a skirt than I ever would have as a dress. I think it worked out better in the long run. I will bear that in mind a future makes, though!

So many beautiful makes that truly need celebrating. It is good to look back on your makes from the year. I made two things in 2023 that immediately come to mind. I made the Donny Shirt this past summer and it is probably my most worn make. In December I made the Southbank Sweater dress and it fits me to perfection. It is my fourth version and when I wear it I feel absolutely fabulous.

I think my favourite make of yours is the remake of your wedding dress. Truly a “love in every stitch” project even though it gave you some tricky moments. Next favourite is the Burnside bibs as they make you so happy. ❤ My own favourite make was a Love Notions Tempo sundress in a beautiful cotton from Spool of Thread, bought on a special trip to Vancouver. I love that so much I even wore it into the autumn with a sweater over it, and can’t wait to get it out again. Looking forward to seeing more of your lovely makes in 2024.

So many fantastic makes, Theresa! You're an inspiration! I don't know if I could pick a favourite, but maybe the Matilda Shirt Dress just slightly stands out above the rest for me. I didn't make a tonne of garments this year, but I think my favourite is probably an Anthea Blouse I made out of a beautiful green cotton slub fabric with a delightful floral print. I definitely hope to make more garments in 2024. Sometimes I find it tricky to switch back and forth between quilting mode and garment mode, but I am going to try to make it a priority this year. Can't wait to see what you get up to next! 💙

There are always so many things that I would like to make but don't get around to. Such is life when you have a creative mind. There are always new ideas buzzing around. It's a positive problem to have. Better than having no ideas! The Anthea Blouse is a new favorite of mine. I'll definitely be making more of those this year. And I have the opposite problem, where I want to get some quilting done but never manage to get there. I prefer to cut out quilt pieces with a rotary cutter, so I'm trying to wait until my wrist is a bit happier.
@bravelittlebuckaroo
@bravelittlebuckaroo 8 месяцев назад
Oh, I would never attempt a quilting project without a rotary cutter! Although I do still pin out my paper patterns and cut them with scissors the old fashioned way. I don't trust myself with a rotary cutter doing anything but straight lines with the help of a quilting ruler. Yes, too many ideas and not enough time is definitely my (positive) problem too! I hope your wrist is healing well. xo
