Haha scientist here and started learning in my 30s! It’s been 4 years now and I found myself nodding at every single word said here. I always do feel very lucky that I have been trained to have a scientist’s mindset for pretty much everything I encounter in life, and I naturally take that into cello learning. It’s incredibly rewarding. Thank you so much for another super helpful video.

Wonderful tips from an awesome teacher, to keep nourishing a positive mindset🤗🎻 Learning cello as an adult is complex journey, at time paved with struggles and frustration, yet also deeply enriching and even exhilarating... and simply put, amazingly worth it. Thanks Billy for guiding us along the way 🙏🎶❤

This was excellent! I love the point on learning from failure. "The harder you have to work for a certain technique or ability, the more you will value it once you've conquered it." I'm am going to completely embrace this mindset! Thank you so much Billy!

😂... recovering perfectionist here.🙋🏻‍♀️ Wow I actually practice a piece with my bow arm alone without my left hand. Here I thought it might be silly, turns out it's a legit practice technique. Thanks Billy!☺️

Help please. I am an adult beginner. In first position, should I keep my first finger on the string and on its correct note as I play the second, third, or fourth finger? My first finger sharps a bit as I go up to the other fingers, as I can’t quite make the full stretch. My instructor says I must keep the first finger in its correct position all the time, even when playing the third or fourth finger. Thanks for any advice.

hi, beginner too. My teacher is telling me to always keep as much fingers down as possible, bc it will help playing quicker (and also require less strengh to hold the notes). Maybe you will gain some range with practice, maybe your left arm position is not optimal, or maybe you have very small hands and should not be playing on a full cello - my uneducated guesses. Ask your instuctor :)
