That last point is the one for me. Especially that I’m now a grumpy old man who hates 50 revisions. Trust me I’ve been there too….

Haha you can always tell who is the experienced one when they comment on that last point 🙌😅

This is brilliant, but as I'm so old, by the time I learn this level of 'knowing' my plugins I'll be dead. Lol.
@WhoIsAlexElliott
@WhoIsAlexElliott 2 месяца назад
@@yveanmore I believe you can do it 😅. You can save a lot of time with RU-vid. For my first 10 years I didn’t have RU-vid so it was a lot of experimenting but you can save sooo much time now that RU-vid exists 🙌🙌 cause you know what great plug ins to start with and learn first, and plugins sound so much better now!

Acustic was the Thing to me. I had a software that corrected my headphones and I was shocked. You're right about knowing your tools. If you can have a kind of intention tag on every single tool or technic, that would be great.

Same when I levelled up my acoustics, that’s when I improved the most.

Nice slow and informative I wish all teachers was this clear I feel like I learned a lot, question should I trust my speakers or the headphones when mixing
@WhoIsAlexElliott
@WhoIsAlexElliott 3 месяца назад
Thankyou for the tips sometimes I wonder if I’m too boring in the RU-vid world where it’s edits every 1.8 seconds 😂. But this helps. Regarding your question I’d say listen to both and learn your fav songs. For low end trust the headphones. For the reverbs and spaces and overall levels trust speakers!

I find a good mix has more to do with the sound selection then anything else when it comes to how loud and clear it sounds. Some stuff juat sounds really good Sonically vs other stuff that falls flat.

I guess I can add a few… 1. Don’t be scared to reject a project, if the source doesn’t sound good, you better NOT touch it! 🫠 2. Don’t go fully Auto Mode when mixing! A lot of folk simply follow what they heard or saw someone else do. Not bad but sometimes the mix needs a different fix. Recognising this is huge. 3. Clip your transient material on the individual tracks too and not just on your Busses. 4. Your low end is the first to kiss the ceiling of your limiter, Buss your Low End information and Control the bus with a transparent multiband before your final limiter. 5. To get a smooth top end, don’t be afraid to low pass your mix. Afterall everything after 20k is just hairy sizzling annoying frequencies. 6. Same with low frequencies. Check if you still have a hefty low end if you can get away with HI Passing up to 30hz. On PAs it reproduces a much cleaner sound. Done the tests. If not, then don’t! 7. We all don’t know it all and that’s ok! Remove the ego and learn when you can. It is a LOT! 8. MIX EVERYDAY!! Even if it’s 5 minutes. 9. For the love of God do not put “Grammy engineers” on this massive pedestal. Mad respect, but if you had the chance to work on a Beyonce record with your skill level patching a cable or mic’ a session, you’d also be likely to win a Grammy. Get the point? Again Mad respect but just saying… 10. Clients always have Demo-fever! Respect the Demo and improve upon it without steering away too much. You’ll get approved much faster always! 11. You better stay organised! Your sessions colour coded, all your busses working, you are consistent with A workflow. Bonus tip: Set a timer when going into a mix. After 45-1hr you’ll be losing perspective so it’s always best to work fast and/or take breaks. If you have to mix a lead vocal for 1hr then we have some improving to do. I could go on but will leave it here bro!😅
