Changed in 10 minutes. Imagine a picture-in-picture of the AAA hero arriving, shaking Doug's had twice and swapping the wheel in between, while Doug explains his experience. Loved the video, actually.
Any decent tire shop should do this for you and automatically reduce the cost of your replacement tire by the pro-rated value of the old one as a replacement claim. No need for the customer to do anything and, in general, customers (in lieu of dealers/distributors) are discouraged from initiating these claims themselves as they are a bit onerous for both parties to handle after-the-fact. The only potential hang-up here is that as an OE tire, it has no road hazard warranty. So a dealer would want to make certain there was no indication of an outside cause to the blow-out before preemptively extending warranty coverage.
Doug you can easily reset the maintenance light yourself in the settings on your dashboard! Also Toyota does not charge you for the first 5 maintenance services, it’s called Toyota care! (I work at a Toyota lol)
Also since you bought the car new, they usually give you a warranty package called Tire and wheel package (TWPK) that you can replace your tires and or wheels if anything happens to them for free. Check to see if you have it before buying it out of pocket
@@michaelgonzalez3059They don't "usually give it to you." Tire & wheel is a service contract that you're offered in the finance department. It costs money. Haha. It's never "given" to anyone.
Actually, I think the tow hitch cover coming off the Sequoia it’s now an official recall now so they might replace it when you go to the Toyota dealership for an oil change or something else next time.
One thing I love about getting tired from Discount Tire/America’s Tire is that their warranty follows you around the country. Sure, you had a 3 day wait, but maybe there’s a store along the route where it’s in stock. Small tire guys just can’t compete with that convenience
Doug, regarding the dangers of the shoulder, I agree with you. I had a college classmate from Germany get hit while he was stopped on the side of the Autobahn and even though he was still in his car, he ended up in the hospital in a coma for a long time. It's dangerous out there and I pull over as far as possible when I have to.
Sounds like your family flew home. That ended being a good move. Being broken down on the interstate with a baby in the car would have been even more stressful. Glad the whole thing turned out well, Doug!
That's interesting that the spare in the Sequoia doesn't have a TPMS sensor - my 2008 LX570 has 5 sensors (1 for spare as well). I guess that's cost cutting, or perhaps savings in the Toyota.
I got to tell you my gx550 is the same the driver assistance is awesome and it's so comfortable on the road that if you could stay awake you could drive from 10 for more hours.
I can *Kinda* relate to this. I have a 23 Tundra, and I was driving late at night, zoned out a bit seeing as I have made this drive thousands of times... and I hit a small thing of road debris, and my back rear passenger Falken Wildpeak tire basicaslly exploded. It is a process to get it changed like he mentioned, but I was very happy to see that full size spare Michelin tire under the truck. I'm ready to get new tires, but like Doug said, it's stupid to buy new tires so early. I'm getting rid of the Wild Peak for sure though.
Do you think this problem could be from not using the car (and tires) for long periods of time? Could the tires have gotten dry rotted? New Land Cruiser has tpms on the spare! 5k interval is to sell you a 5k oil change. I got 2 keys when I got my Toyota last month. Sorry this happened to you.
Buy toyo tires they will last longer also the tire change is standard on any other suv the same way is done so get used to it the oil change needs to be done every 6k miles so do it on time otherwise you gonna have problems later on with does turbos
The tire didn't " blow out" U got a flat and continued to drive it. That's obvious, the thing is destroyed. You think a person that does car reviews would feel a tire going low and stop sooner.
I've never had a car with any of that (just basic cruise control) but for long road trips where you just want to eat miles, I totally get the appeal. You're not driving for fun, you just want to get there. Adaptive cruise control in particular really sounds useful.
The tire most likely blew out because you mentioned that you keep them at a low tire pressure the entire time you're in Nantucket and drive that way. With it being so heavy and squishing the tires it heats up the sidewall from all of the flex at higher than off road speeds. I understand why you would do that, I actually do it all the time, but my car is very light. It probably should have lasted longer though.
I lost a tire in less than 1,500 miles on my ‘23 Tacoma TRDPro. Toyota puts some low quality tires on their cars and trucks. To top it all they said I really didn’t have proof that it was the original tire that came on the truck. Those stock tires were the worst part of the whole process of getting a new truck.
…yeah the pointless service intervals annoy me too with my 22 Corolla. I just take The Car Care Nut’s advice and tell ‘em to do an oil change anyways (whatever the factory schedule is, half it)
Curious how much the ride quality will improve when switching tires. Those falkens are great, but their one failing is being pretty lousy for ride quality.
Toyota doesn't want the floor mats getting under the accelerator pedal and cause "unintentionally acceleration"! I've had a flat tire in that same area lol. I drive I-81 between I-66 and I-40 and across I-40 a lot. I did DC to San Diego and immediately back in my Silverado 3500 pulling a enclosed car trailer with a friend's MazdaSpeed 3 and his stuff on the way out and a RX8 on the way back. I went 40 to US-95 down to I-10 then I-10 to Scottsdale to get the RX8. Up I-17 to I-40, back up I-81, I-66, I-495, I-95 to home. I took my time on the way out because my friend was with me, I didn't let him drive lol, so we stopped to see some stuff. Overall I did the round trip in 9 days. Which way do you go from I-40 to San Diego?
Weird man, my 5 year old Ford, the minute a tire goes down it flashes on the screen which tire it is and the PSI. My 9 year old RAM1500 did the same. You're saying on a brand new Toyota it didn't immediately tell you which tire was flat?
Doug, you made everyone intreagued (EVERYONE!) by saying Sequoia is better offroad than the triple locled G-Klasse. We need more details: in which way exactly is it better, what you think Mercedes lacks to be just as good or better?
