Hi Friends! Hello!! I've missed you all!
I am excited to share highlights from my April trip to Italy with you all!
I will have a normal sit-down video next Saturday and chat about what we have been reading, and more! In the meantime, I hope you enjoy this video!
Just a note - there is some sculpture-nudity which I fretted over and cut away from as much as I could, but two very famous pieces of art especially that I just couldn't leave out (The David and Laocoon and Sons). (I even tried to use a fig leaf on The David but could not figure out how to get the leaf to move with the visual!).
Where to Find Me:

Hi Friends!! Just a note - there is some sculpture-nudity (unavoidable in Renaissance art) which I fretted over and cut away from as much as I could, but two very famous pieces of art especially that I just couldn't leave out (The David and Laocoon and His Sons). (I even tried to use a fig leaf on The David but could not figure out how to get the leaf to move with the visual!). So...just wanted to let you guys know in case! I see these works in their entireties so didn't even think about it until late in my editing! Apologies if it is bothersome in any way! Otherwise...I hope you enjoy the video and see you next week!🌷

Thank you for taking us along on your trip! My family heritage is Italian, but I’ve never been to Italy. I really want to go someday. To see some of the works of Michelangelo in person would be a dream come true!💜

It is such a pleasure!! Thank you so very much for watching it! I know it's not my usual type of video so have been rather worried about whether or not RU-vid friends will find it interesting. I really hope you make it to Italy someday. One of the things that I forgot to mention and will remedy in my next video is how wonderful the Italian people are! Just the best human beings! You are so lucky to have roots there!!!❣

Lovely trip! Italy is so beautiful in the spring. Props for reading Daisy Miller in Rome and quoting E.M. Forster in Florence! Those Italian children's books were adorable too. I can't wait to see all of the books you got in your next video. 🥰

Hi Elizabeth! Thank you so much for watching it! Yes I really loved both those books...but 'A Room with a View' is true love for me. 'Daisy Miller' I loved, but from a different angle which I am still trying to figure out but really need to pin it down so I can record my video on Wednesday!

Hi Laura! It's so funny because I was having my morning coffee and thinking about your video where you visited Steinbeck country with your Mom and then jumped on RU-vid and saw your comment!! I loved that video of yours by the way! Thank you so much for watching and for the lovely comment!! I am so glad you enjoyed it! Have a lovely week!!!💕

Is that Romulus and Remus nursing from the she wolf (Is it just me or does that wolf look like a pitbul?)? Roaming with no particular destination in mind is one of my favorite ways to see cities. That Floor! Wow! so beautiful. I like the ease and convenience of filming on my cell phone. My kids' favorite city was Florence. Our Forsythia is just opening too! This was so lovely. Thank you so much for sharing your time with us.

I'm so glad you enjoyed it Deea! Yes they are supposedly Romulus and Remus! I understand that she-wolf statue is quite ancient, although I think I read that the twins were added later to it. I have to agree about the cell phone - I also edit on it so that makes it so easy. I only wish I had crisper imagery that I think I would get from a camera. Have a lovely Mother's Day!!!🌷

What a beautiful vlog! The scenery is so amazing, and I hope I can get there someday to visit. I’ve always wondered whether it’s better to just spend a week in one city rather than trying to squeeze so much into one vacation so I’m glad you said that about parking it in one spot for next time. :-) I really enjoyed the scenery and music, great vlog!

Its so hard because you just want to fit everything in and see it all! Flights are expensive so you think to yourself "I have to see this while I'm here because who knows if I will ever be here again!" Thank you for watching!!!💕

Oh, Heather! What a triumph! First of all, Vesuvius was breathtaking! The ruggedness of the landscape, almost lunar, in harmony with the delicacy yet vibrancy of the poppies. And I was surprised that I felt so peaceful in the forum, despite the fact that it was a political place where death had occurred. Your hotels were so much fun to see. Were they airbnb's? And I saw you picking up Florence Stories. . . .ha, I just picked up New York Stories. Love those volumes. Sienna appealed to me and gave me the same feeling I had in France years ago when I visited a church in Tournous. You looked radiant! And it's clear you enjoyed your time there. Thanks so much for sharing all of this with us. ❤ PS. The art was wonderful and it would be really strange to not see nudity. It’s natural and within the context of great art, completely appropriate. Botticelli is wonderful! ❤

Hi Celeste! Thank you! I am so glad you enjoyed it! Vesuvius was breathtaking and we were so lucky to get tickets - it was all sold out so had to do the last-minute ones that go on sale an hour before. Otherwise, we had planned to see Herculaneum, which we will have to go back for some day as I hear it's even better preserved than Pompeii. The poppies were so great- my only regret was not having a copy of The Wizard of Oz for a book photo! The Forum in Rome was actually one of my favorite places but yes, all the death there and in the circus and around Rome is not fun to think about. Pompeii was also rather deeply affecting - I did not show the plaster casts because it just felt wrong but I was rather deeply affected when I saw them in person. Italy - such a land of contrasts! Thank you so much for watching and for soothing my worry over the nudity!!!!😅

Oh I just realized that I never answered your question! We mostly stay in Vacation rental homes and use VRBO, except the Venice one was a bit different...it seemed to be part hotel part someone's home. I loved it! It works out better budget-wise when traveling with my Mom instead of booking two hotel rooms, we rather book a home with two or more bedrooms. Oh and yes...Florence Stories is so interesting, and there is also a Rome and Venice one that I am thinking of!

@@WaterBearReads The home rental appeals to me as I have Celiac and therefore having a kitchen and some basic gluten free food and drinks on hand would help to make a vacation more relaxing. The places that you stayed looked beautiful!
@WaterBearReads
@WaterBearReads 4 месяца назад
@@areadersalmanacwithceleste1366 We were also very lucky because almost all the rentals were very near a grocery store too! The one in Rome was a block away. The only thing about them is that often they want you to take out your trash (both Spain and Italy). Luckily in both countries we were able to find public trash bins quite easily for the most part, but once or twice we had to drive a little way before coming to one. So be sure to ask where the trash bins are! I'll add the links to the places we stayed that were in the video to my description box later today.
