Thank you so much your attention to detail in fixings which is reassuring as don't like to leave fixings to chance as i do much rental property work and sockets can get janked

A consumer unit is defined as a particular type of distribution board, which suggest there are many different types of distribution boards and a consumer unit is one of those types.

Very neat and professional job as always, The only thing I didn't agree with is that the internal fire clips you have used should be secured using some masonry screws, In the event of a fire the clips would be held in place as opposed to plastic rawl plugs which would melt due to heat
@cjmillsnun
@cjmillsnun 5 лет назад
Plastic Rawlplugs have been deemed to be acceptable for the 18th.
@user-yw6qb9tt7t
@user-yw6qb9tt7t Год назад
The rawlplugs are in the wall. By the time they are incinerated and maybe dislodge the place would be burnt beyond recognition after an intense fire. Who would be around by then to get tangled in falling cables ?

@MrFreddywise1
@MrFreddywise1 4 года назад
being from Australia we call ours fuse boards, but i believe when there installed in a business, factory, warehouses etc there called distribution boards, an a consumer board when installed in houses, i may be wrong but i think you,ll find there mostly called distribution boards when installed in large companies etc, although i believe Americans do call them distribution boards ?
@MyTrustedElectrician
@MyTrustedElectrician 4 года назад
I believe we refer to ours as Fuse-boards when they contain BS3036 BS1361/2 or BS88 fuses. Distribution boards when they serve for public use. Consumer unit when they're for personal use (domestic). It's not in writing but this seems to be agreed my the majority so far.

Another great vid. Fantastic to see the use of metal fixings in compliance with BS7671:2019 2 Things 1 i think my polo has got lost in the post 2 When fixing the conduit to the wall did you use rawl plugs? In the event of a fire these can melt and we're back to square 1 with falling conductors.
@Baggiolyful
@Baggiolyful 5 лет назад
HiddenWarrior this is the question. Where does it stop with metal fixings 😄. My theory is that rawl plugs wouldn’t melt first and the fire would get to everything else before it reaches plastic inside a stone wall surely ?.
@alvinashman6371
@alvinashman6371 5 лет назад
There's not been enough clarity with regards to this regulation, I would say screws, metal plugs and fire rated clips above doorways and archways only, everywhere else plastic plugs and fire rated clips will do.
@stevenskillern9470
@stevenskillern9470 5 лет назад
No need for raw plugs to also be metal. Plastic raw plugs are still fine. I read some literature a while back where an experiment was carried out and the raw plugs didn't melt until around 800 degrees Celsius (can't remember the exact melting point) again once a fire is up to 800 then this is way past premature.
@davemorgan7695
@davemorgan7695 5 лет назад
my college lecture also stated plastic wall plugs would still be acceptable under the 18th edition.
@daveroberts832
@daveroberts832 5 лет назад
I agree Alvin, over doorways, arches and down narrow passages. These areas I use Dewalt walldogs, a bit pricey but they're very good. Got too many red plugs and screws to just bin em! I now use Fire Fly clips in mini trunking.

@@markandrews8437 Thanks for the reply mate. Glad to hear you have found your feet and are doing well. The daunting bit for me is moving on from maintenance work to working on the road. The work itself doesn't bother me as I'm really interested in it. As you said it's finding the right people to work with. Thanks again

seems a stupid name really, consumer unit, its a box with fuses, hence fuse box, i dont know why its not just called a fuse board everyone knows it by that name, except the IET like to change things just for the sake of changing things, another example direct contact or indirect contact it explains itself, but that got changed, they are a pain in the bum. Although always helps to change things, make enough changes and they can fetch out another regs book, roll on the 30th edition, ha ha
