The desk setup is complete! and absurd. The gear is never ever complete because i'm obsessed. But this desk setup is my favorite system to use everything.

You clearly need another 2x12U side rack with some other goodies in it. Like maybe a 500 series lunchbox or two. Some reverbs and other rack gear. THEN you'll be happy.

My question is: Why the 2 Apollos in the center? This kind of gear can be in a vertical rack on the side as you don't realy need to reach them so often. And having them "classicaly" vertical (or horizontal, it depends how you see the life... 🤓 ) is better for their cooling (the bigger surface facing the top). I know, I work with Apollo interfaces and I know how they can be quite warm after a day of work.

Studio is looking amazing..I too highly recommend the gator products I have the synth stands/a mixer sidecar on wheels/speaker stands there well built and ive had mine for years with no issues.. I also have another set of there speaker stands and have a Novation circuit on one and a arturia micro freak on the other,they look brilliant

I have the Dangerfox 24 genesis largely because I watched Andrew’s and Colt’s videos on it. It took forever to get to me due to supply chain issues (not their fault), and the color wasn’t what I asked for (who knows what happened there), but I had waited so long I wasn’t that bothered by it. It is a beautiful desk, that uses no particle board; It’s all either solid wood for the ornamental portions of the desk or plywood. It’s very high quality. I also got the 88 keyboard addition, and that works great as well.

Very nice. I build my own desks and racks. Can also cut a blank panel out of wood. I’m not made of money and I prefer to build and design exactly what I need for ergonomics and saving space. More money for expensive gear.

You should try the AC INFINITY CLOUDPLATES rack coolers. They're all black, really quiet, temperature controlled, come in 1U-3U and they'll take up those spaces nicely. They're about $100-$200 each but worth it in the long run.

You can get 1/2 rack spacer panels, which would give you back an extra 1U in the centre rack.

Please allow me two questions: 1. Which camera and lighting setup do you use? I tried to find a video on your channel talking about it, but I couldn't find it. 2. Why a UAD 1176 instead of a pair of warm audios? I'm asking this one cause the 1176 is on my radar to feed my G.A.S. I was considering the warm ones, but some reviews say they're not as great as other warm stuff. What are your thoughts on that? Love your channel, dude. Stay safe.

Looks great. I’m interested in patch bay especially How to or which patch bay( TT, or xlr or 55 ) you use, how to connect them to your rack mount hardwares! Looks great :) I dont think I would bother to have the interfaces in the middle, because i would never twiddle with those. So I'd put something with buttons that you twist often in the middle instead, and the least betwiddleth items to the sides... if that made sense in english :D

Why not put the Apollos in the sidecar since you can control it via software? Then put the eqs in the speaker sweet spot where the Apollos are. Chain = Pres > EQs > Compressors > Apollos.

I have so many questions about your workflow with this setup. Are you moving all the way to the side out of the sweet spot to actually work in the DAW?

Amazing setup Andrew! This is so inspiring for me to design my own studio, desk and all. One question; since you have a blank space above the mic-preamps, why not move those up one space and move the 273 from the middle section to the bottom left? Any reason for keeping this one in the center section?

It all looks great. I feel like I would just put the interfaces in their own separate box somewhere off to the side though. You don't really need to access them frequently at this point in your home studio journey, right? Everything seems kind of semi-permanent. Moving those would free up 4Us you could use for other gear.

This maybe a dumb question, and I may get laughed at for asking, but….how often, if ever, do you pull everything apart (cables etc) and clean? I left things set up for quite a while sometimes for a big project and it gets to the point where I don’t need to label the mixing desk channels, I can just write it in the dust!

I'd say I take stuff out of my desk/sidecars a 3-5 times a year. I test and review gear so I'm constantly shifting things around and cleaning. Also I can't stand dust so I have a dust gun, paint brush, and vacuum almost every other day. Keeps the studio feeling fresh and comfortable.

How are you getting those outboard preamps into your converters? Are you having to go through the UA preamp as well, so like double preamp? That’s what I’m dealing with now with the bae 1073 and my focusrite clarret.

THE ISSUE is, that if you keep your Apollos like that, you will blow them due to heat problems. They need at least 1U Rack space empty above for cooling purpose. But every Apollo owner should know that right?! I am looking for an Apollo x16 right now, I could get one on Ebay for a very good price, BUT I decided NOT to buy any used one because I never know if the owner before did the same like you, not to give the unit the needed space to breathe. I better buy a new unit than one which is nearly blown. Oh.....continuing the video, I saw you did mention the heat problem. So I hope they have no unseen damages already.
