@Logan Teo it's actually the opposite - unless parliament has made a law about it, it's legal, unlike other countries where things are presumed illegal unless the government has explicitly said it's a protected right. although when you have acts of parliament still on the books from the 1270s, that is a lot of things that have been legislated over the years

@@hugokam7762 they're not saying it should be illegal to sell alcohol from the back of a hovercraft, they're saying it should be illegal to sell alcohol from the back of a hovercraft without a license to sell alcohol. Without a license it would be far easier to sell alcohol to minors or sell alcohol that is not safe for consumption especially when you're a two person operation.

Anything involving drunk people and moving vehicles sounds like a recipe for serious accidents to me.

Well doesn't necessarily make sense, but aren't there larger hovercrafts? In the states we have hovercraft tours of swamps in the South East like Louisiana and Mississippi, and you can fits 8 or so people on the ones I've seen

The law doesn't care if he's airborne. The 1820 from Manchester Picadilly to London Euston has its metal wheels firmly in contact with the rails and yet enjoys this very exemption and hence you can buy alcohol on it.

My photography teacher who knew a lot about obscure laws built a hovercraft and drove it down a busy street and got a ticket but knew the ticket was illegal. At that time it wasn’t considered a street type vehicle and could only be governed by the FAA (The federal aviation administration here in the US), fought the ticket in court and won! This was back in the 80’s and it made the news. The laws were changed soon after.

Yes, travelling is probably not rigidly defined. The hovercraft just needs to be travelling and technically still be a hovercraft. So can you put it on a slow moving flatbed being pulled by a car?

@@onionbot2 Either by using a character table, or by not having a terrible keyboard layout. Ergonomic keyboard layouts have all kind of additional symbols available. I can quote “like this” (English), or »like this« (used in Switzerland, France). Or … (ellipsis symbol) like „This” (German). Or the plain old ASCII "replacement character".

Thank you for the great reminder how great my mother was. Even though we usually just flew to England for the annual visit to the relatives, I will never forget this one time we went by hovercraft in one direction and hydrofoil the other way just to please my technical curiosity. Not because of the details of the trip which are only a faint memory, but because of the feeling That my curiosity was okay.

The hovercraft even made it into the James Bond film Diamonds Are Forever (we'll not mention Moonraker or Die Another Day...). I guess it was a futuristic selling point of UK PLC back in the late sixties. Sadly the hovercraft across the channel ended with the rise of the Channel Tunnel.
