I’m a grown ass 25yo woman and I just watched that storyline a few months ago… and it stayed with me. It brought me back to times in my life when I felt that way. It’s unbelievably incredible and my girl Olivia Scriven slayed it.
Dave could have made great storylines and he was one of the best actors in acting on the show! His storyline in season 11 with Alli and the girl who was stalking him was great and great acting on his part! He and Drew could have been both besties and ran Degrassi in season 13 and 14 but he was replaced by Dallas, who I hated! Can’t have 2 black guys on the show 🤷🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️ but R.I.P. Jahmil French
He really is but when it comes to his relationships, he’s not the best but he really tried just not hard enough. Plus when it comes to his love life, he’s not that great at saying how he feels, especially when he gets cut off

I would’ve loved the relationship between them especially in season 3, when Ashley embarrassed both her and Craig. But them as a couple? Nahh, to me, Manny need more guy friends and less boyfriends. Come to think, she has stayed single during the early-mid seasons, like in season 4 and 5
I enjoyed Clare and drew as well, I'm currently rewatching seasons 13 and 14 and I think they are underrated seasons. I'm not a big fan of Eli and Clare, it was so toxic to me
Sean and Emma was cute... I think what made the couple good was that they needed one another for balance. Sean needed Emma to keep him grounded and from going down a dark road. Emma needed Sean to have fun and to stop being so uptight and type A. Sean and Ellie worked because they were both misunderstood and both had family issues and could relate on a lot of levels, but they were too similar. Neither could bring out the best in the other. I really think Sean should have came back from the military for the college season in order to complete the circle of development by helping Emma stay on track during college when she began to lose her way... But ya know, Spemma had to happen...

I also wanna add that after rewatching degrassi as an adult, Ashley isn’t *that* bad and gets way more hate from the fandom than she deserves. Yeah she’s made some dumb decisions here and there but honestly who hasn’t on this show… Spemma knew each other in high school but wasn’t really ever together or close like that; but somehow met up in the future, found a spark, and got married like some small town couples do lol They were each other’s rebound, but still a cute couple to me. I’ve always felt Sellie should’ve gone further than it did. They had chemistry, a lot more in common, and just got each other better then he did with Emma (although they too had their moments). Sellie is the couple that got away for me 😪

I never really thought of manny and jimmy together but honestly I can see it and would have preferred it over her and spinner :/ All your points are super valid and I genuinely hope to see a video on the underuse of black actors on the show bc let’s be honest, there were a lot of storylines that should have def been explored more but weren’t.

100% yes to Jimmy & Manny ( Janny , Jammy either one is cute ) , they should've dated & been endgame . I personally feel like back in the early 00's a couple like them was rare & the media for some reason couldn't comprehend it smh . Interracial couples almost always had to involve a "certain " race or it wouldn't happen . As the show & time progressed I feel like the show in a way made up for it with Dallas & Ali . I literally just saw a edit where both Liberty & Toby are talking about Jimmy & Manny ending up together with 4 kids .......I'm Upset ( No pun intended ) .
Regarding Craig, I think the character also benefited from how charming the actor who played him was. Don't get me wrong, he is an interesting character regardless, I just think Jake Epstein also played him *just* right, and that made him even more likeable. He's the character I was rooting for, even when he was messing up.
I feel like Emma also had those similar Maya moments where she would do things out of care for her friends. However, she would go abt it much worse lol. With Clare tho, honestly I cant really even say that about there. I think Clare is a nicer character than Emma but is the most selfish out of all them lowkey.
Well.......... sometimes things are unpopular for a reason! (I kid, I kid) Sean and Ellie were my favorite early-season relationship, BY FAR! Strongly disagree on Tristan and Miles though - I liked them as a pairing right until they got together and then it all went down the drain. I also really like Maya... I think they should have addressed Cam more in the sequel series, how they danced around his death was kind of odd, but I do love where they went psychologically with her character. The Zig romance was the only dud in her story imo.
my problem with emma and spin is there was nothing with them throughout the series, they were never close friends, barely associated and then this came out of nowhere. i wish they gave me something to a lead up

I do agree with you that Emma and Shawn were terrible together but I did like Shawn and Eli. A couple pairing that I hated the most is zig and Maya because Ziggy is such a whiny, annoying character.
Drew is my favorite character. Riley is so underutilized. Leia, Wesley, Owen, Zane, Hannah, Liam, Sadie, Julian & Jess should've lasted longer. I still don't like Alex or Damian.
I always love watching unpopular opinions as everyone always has at least one. This is the first one though where I agreed with every single one though. Especially Emma and spinner being good together and Craig being the best character. I had never thought of Jimmy and Manny being a couple till watching thos video and I think that is the couple I am the saddest never happened now.

I loved Ellie and Sean Emma and Sean was a done too many times troupe and they didn’t even do it well. Ellie and Sean brought the best of each other. Two broken doves finding solace and understanding in each other. Ok that’s enough for me today 😂

I agree with most of these. I loved Sean and Emma together but at the same time I hated Emma’s character and I hated how Sean wouldn’t let her grow up and think she was perfect or needed to be perfect all the time. I think Sean and Ellie were kinda cute together. I loved that Emma ended up with Spinner it was totally unexpected and a great plot twist. It was so funny and fun and loved them. I’m a huge fan of Eclare I love Eli and Clare together and separate. But I also loved Clare with Drew. I loved that love triangle! Craig is one of my favorite characters sadly I relate to him with the entire father experience but Jake did a fantastic job portraying him like he deserved an Oscar for it! Perfection! Very talented! I love Craig’s character. Manny & Jimmy? I don’t see it. Sorry. I love her with Jay even though Jay was kinda horrible until he was with Manny. Tristian and Miles don’t have much of an opinion. But love Tristian! Not sure why people don’t like him. Miles is eh. I agree with you on Peter. Maya she was so annoying and when cam died I didn’t really understand her reaction much right after but it did effect her later on and it’s heartbreaking. However she’s not one of my favorites but she’s gorgeous Dave I forgot the actor died 😢rip Jahmil French. Didn’t really care for his character all that much but I’m glad he got to accept Adam in the end.
Spinner and Emma could have been good if it was built up or teased. What separates degrassi is the realism that’s why your other points in the is video of Dave being a real teenager what Craig went through Sean and Ellie it was all done realistic. Emma and spinner was a soap opera move and too be honest that is what seasons 10-14 are a teen soap
Agree with almost all except the Semma vs Sellie and that Manny and Jimmy ones. But that’s only because manny and Jimmy never interacted like ever. If they had of that would’ve probably been a good ship but they don’t talk lol
I’m gonna end up leaving so many comments on here but Miles was a very good character. I’m not a big fan of Tristan, but I think his relationship with Miles was cute.
Emma and Sean were opposites not that there’s anything wrong with that. But having too little or next to nothing in common while it doesn’t make a relationship impossible both really need to be open minded people who accept their current circumstances and are willing to push forward

I don’t think Craig being the best character is a hot take. He was the most complex character, had some of the best written/most iconic storylines, and Jake Epstein is a PHENOMENAL actor! Craig really ran the gambit of what a character could go through and Jake is so much of the reason that despite all of the poor decisions he made, Craig was a lovable kid. Teenaged boys make bad decisions. Add in a bad home life and mental illness, of course they aren’t going to be perfect. But that’s what kids really go through. Nothing about Craig was ever unrealistic, which is not something that could be said about almost degrassi characters.
definitely! unfortunately some fans don't see it that way. i see lots of fans hating him and also saw a video once saying craig was the best character and most people in the comments disagreed. so I'm glad most everyone here can agree that his flaws made him real, his actor was the best and that he was simply the most iconic!!
Let’s be completely honest: There is NO way in real life high school that someone who looks like Drew would ever fall for someone who looks like Clare.
In the Degrassi miniseries, the first episode was Sean coming into town and running into Ellie. It was cheesy as hell, but it was supposed to be the “reunion” that wasn’t put in the main story arc.
I love Craig, he has so many character flaws but he is so enjoyable to watch. His downfall with the cheating and coke addiction made him even more interesting to follow
I liked Emma and Spinner too. The idea that they had just been kinda circling around each other for years but never really connecting - there's something kinda sweet about that. Plus I think they both actually make sense for each other at that point and time in their lives.
A lot of people aren't for it due to it seeming sooooo random, but irl that's actually how a lot of couples form in a smaller township/city. Usually people get together in high school and then either just stay together or do a on/off during high school and into early adulthood/forever (if they ended up having kids together.) Then the couples who was the 'it' couple who was together until some years after hs, they break up, and then one or both of them get into totally different relationships with more or less randomish people in town and then the cycle starts where those couples being on/off and then the first couple get back together and then back to the other person when they are done.
and Spike and Snake sort of did the same thing. While Spike had a crush on Snake in Degrassi High, they never dated til TNG. I always thought it was a little nod to that.
Her depression storyline was so well done. A lot of show do a depression or suicidal storyline and it like a two or three maybe 4 episode storyline that rushed and done poorly. they take a normal character with no sign or hints of depression and boom make then suicidal right away like no lead up nothing just boom. And a lot of time after the few episode it like forgotten and barley mention again. The fact Maya was done through out multiple season and slowly show her falling into her depression. I got back and rewatch episode and release there were hint at her depression that you wouldn’t even release until later.
@@SammiPDanton I completely agree, I also like how they didn’t ignore how traumatizing the situation with Cam was and showed how it continued to affect her years later through her sometimes obsessive concern with her friends
I still think Emma and Spinner was so random, but you do have a point. Emma did seem much more tolerable around Spin and we know that Spinner gives his all in relationships so, in theory, they'd probably be able to go the distance. I just want a reboot with them and their kid as the main girl so we can see their dynamic as parents!!!
Sean & Ellie were endgame in my mind! Their breakup was mature for their age. They were independent so young. I second he should have picked up with Ellie versus getting with Emma.

Emma and Sean were cute in middle school. Once they got to high school they were just too different. Sean and Ellie had amazing chemistry and really brought out the best in each other.
I think people like the IDEA of Sean and Emma, as the puppy love that turns into something more relationship. However in actuality, they weren't really serving the first time(s) they were together and Sean coming back to Degrassi primarily for that relationship did not make a lick of sense. And for them to still not be endgame after the show did all that, just seemed ridiculous.
Drew should have either been introduced as a sophomore or written out of the show. Having him, Dallas, and Imogen all getting held back was lazy and just a way to cause drama.
Especially since in the earlier seasons, there was plenty of build up for Spinner, Jimmy, and Ashely being held back. It really shows the decline in writing when comparing the situations.
