[Synopsis]
In this video, I show you my upgraded Dell Precision T5500 workstation computer. This computer was released in 2009, so it is about 14 years old. I got two of these computers for free from work in 2017, and I have upgraded it over the past 6 years.
I upgraded the CPUs, the video card, added a 2.5" SSD, added larger hard drives, added more fans, and I added a M.2 NVMe SSD. This is much more capable than a stock Dell Precision T5500, and I intend to use it for a few more years.
There are some limitations when it comes to graphics cards for a computer like this. You cannot use a graphics card that requires a UEFI BIOS which this computer doesn't have. Graphics cards, like a Geforce GTX 1600 series, RTX 2000/3000/4000 series will not work with this computer, because this computer has a Legacy BIOS.
I don't use this to play games, it is mainly used as a server and a workstation. Never the less, it does have enough power to run most games even today on medium settings. It has more CPU cores(24 cores with HT) than my I7-10700KF which has 16 cores with hyperthreading. I can install games on my M.2 NVMe SSD and load games in seconds. I have plenty of hard drive storage space to store about 6 TB of storage. Larger hard drives can be added to this computer, like 4 TB to 8 TB, and it would work.
I didn't upgrade this computer to its fullest potential, or I would have 14 TB of storage space, 72 GB of RAM, Geforce GTX 1080 with two Intel Xeon 5690 3.47 GHz hexa-core CPUs. I didn't see a need to upgrade it to the max, but it's possible to add a better graphics card, faster cpus, or larger storage devices. This computer comes with a 875 Watt PSU, so you shouldn't have any problems powering all the upgrades you make on this machine.
