Thank you for the link!! I just ordered this bag and I can’t wait to get it! Awesome video, great content! Thank you! I only wish I found this video earlier, but better late then never.
I'd recommend some emergency TP or wet wipes. Glad you addressed the tools aspect. Things like a powerpack to jump your car, or some means to repair a flat etc. Good vid.
I see so often people have way more knives and fire starters than they really need. I have been using the same bic lighter for years on backpacking trips and so I am fine to only carry one in my car emergency kit. One good knife is also plenty. I would consider trading out redundant items for more food. Way more practical than most kits I have seen.
I'll one up you. I have been backpacking for over a decade, hundreds of miles in every weather imaginable. I have never once needed a fire or knife. I stopped carrying knives and use a tiny sparker if I want to mess around. I stopped carrying rope too. It's just dead weight. Have a good jacket, have a way to clean and carry water, have good shoes.
No toilet paper or wet wipes? Great video and kit! A large black garbage bag can also cover a broken door window: shut it into the door around the top and sides of the window. Bottom side open to allow water to drain.
Every year I see footage of people trapped in their vehicle by extreme weather and I am amazed at how few are actually prepared for such an occurance even though it happens EVERY YEAR! I live in Southern California where the majority of people commute rather long distances and none that I talk to have a plan or supplies to get home in the event of a large quake closing streets and freeways.
i got caught in a flash flood in my car a couple years ago. luckily i was unintentionally prepared. i grabbed my guitar, got on the roof, and used the guitar as an oar to row my car like a canoe to safety.
There is a really nice bag that actually opens all the way for a little more on Amazon. Its the Shangri LA Large bag. Its an awesome bag. I bought 1 and I fell in love with it. So I bought one more bag.
Now, I don’t have much evidence to base this on. But the bag that you use in this video, I’m 90% sure comes from a little survival kit Walmart use to carry. I’m assuming this because I purchased the kit a long time ago, and I recognized the poncho, the rations, the water, and cem light. Obviously you’ve modified the kit for better tho. But a lot of those contents were found in the kit. I’ve had the bag for about 4 years now and it’s held up great, with very heavy use. I’ve sent it flying off of a truck before, doing about 50 on gravel, and it was only a little dusty.
The kit is no longer available at Walmart, but I was able to find it a while ago on amazon. If you search “PhysiciansCare First Aid 3 Day Survival Kit with Emergency Food and Water (73 Piece Kit)” on Amazon, you’ll find what I’m talking about.
Looks good, I would add a bit more cordage, and a silcock key. The pliers on your Letherman may work in place of it but the silcock definitely works and doesn't take much space.
I have that same bag (red) made by Condor. You can get a lot of stuff in them that you might need. No reason not to be prepared. Thanks for showing it.
It would be a good idea to keep some pepper spray in your kit to protect you from dangerous people or wild animals especially at night if you have to leave a broken down vehicle for help.
Great kit nobody ever puts food in they put a fishing kit in who’s gonna fish I also carry a brick of life boat food in my ghb I also have another brick on the front seat of my truck I basically have the same stuff except 2 contracted bags for ground cover I also work all day on the road o could be 60 or 70 miles from home
Excellent and concise account of what‘s needed in a compact get home bag. Thank you! Just a thought I‘d like to share: it might be useful to check from time to time what you are actually carrying and where everything is located. If you are like me, I leave my bag in the car and, thankfully, haven‘t had to use it, so I do tend to forget what I‘ve packed.
Yes, that's a Mora Robust. Great knife. Carbon steel. I boiled my blade in brown vinegar for an hour to give it a gray patina. Then stored it with silicone oil rubbed over it. Just saying'...
Good bag, but doesn't have something very important. Socks and gloves (warm mechanic's gloves) and warming beanie style hat. If you're resorting to using any of the other items in the bag, these items would be necessity 1.
Great video. I have the same bag and another for my wife's car, stocked identically to each other, so it's easy to know what's where without thinking. I must do a video on them.
You need to make a little paracord carry strap for that thing. You can probably make a strap with a couple carabiners which will also come in handy! And you’ll have some extra cordage!
Good, you don't need to go all out for basic 24 hour-ish survival. Having a metal pot can be nice for cooking food (although water can be boiled in metal bottles)
New sub found you as I'm working on vehicle bags for all my vehicles, good info 👍 I have a few of the type range bags in the video but I went with a small dollar store back pack less value to lose if stolen 😀
Missing some items like a knife sharpener, map, cash. Also need a way to strap it on your person in case you walk long distance. Other than that, nice little bag setup
he said explicitly that he has extra batteries. knife sharpener is only necessary in short periods (such as a car issue) if you don't know how to use a knife and you're hitting rocks and metal and bones.
@@herculesbrofister265 that's cool. Yeah you're a big know-it-all aren't you? Ever been in a survival situation where your knife goes dull from all the shit you put it through? Obviously not
My Cabelas bag about this size would be good to pack like this to keep between my front seats. Quick access, not taking room from in my trunk bag. Thanks :)
Thanks for the video, I've been trying to make a small kit out of sog ninja daypack for my truck. Not as experienced so I'm sure there is more than I need. Any chance you could make a video of what you keep in your truck/camping vehicle?
Great little kit. Think you got the basics well covered but I wouldn't hesitate to add more snack bars, a heavy duty contractor bag, and some wipes/TP. Maybe a little bottle of hand sanitizer too, good idea to use before dressing any wounds. Small, easily transported kits like this are the bomb. Minimal investment (for stuff you hope just sits there, never being used), doesn't steal trunk space, and has enough to get you by if you're stranded in your vehicle for a day or two. The grabber blanket was a good addition and something often left out of kits this size.
its not even remotely the same, the bag itself just looks similar. i'm looking at it right now at walmart.com (and it's $38) www.walmart.com/ip/Camillus-First-Aid-3-Day-Survival-Kit-73-PC-1-0-CT/27677988?selected=true
nice to know you're the kind of guy who would ohh and ahh over someone's "Rolecks" since you can't tell the difference between authentic and knock off crap.
I love having toilet paper with me... And I also love videos that don't take 2 and 1/2 minutes to start breaking down the bag and showing me your thoughts on the subject...
