At 3:27 you would have less trouble if you were removing the backing from the stencil, rather than the stencil from the backing. Keep the stencil and premask unbent.
Hi. I am using the 813 to make stencils for ceramic and glass. When I put it through my Cricut Explore 2, it picks up the film and even cuts down into the mat. I am using the blade the cane loaded in it. It has been so frustrating I’m ready to throw the whole thing out the window. And then when I unroll my 813, it’s full of bubbles that need to be flattened out on the mat. The most annoying part is that when it’s printing, it lifts the middle of letters that I need to stay there, as in A, P, B, D, etc... THEN when I try to peel the backing from the mat, the backing sticks and tears and doesn’t want to come off. I’ve had to throw away 2 mats in a week and they aren’t cheap. Again, I’m using the blade that came pre-loaded and then the custom setting on the dial. When it asks me to choose a medium, I’m using construction paper because there really isn’t anything as thin as this film listed. This whole Cricut experience is so much more difficult than I ever thought it would be.
Hi Vanessa. I am feeling the same way and having the same issues too :( I just want to make a stencil for a sign. It's so frustrating. I'm starting to think I got a defective machine or something. I just want to give up.
Great video! What have you found the difference to be between 813 stencil vinyl and 631? Is it easier to use for stencils? Are you able to reuse it? Thank you!
Yolanda moreno great question! I use the regular vinyl setting. Depending on the sharpness if you blade, the default pressure would be just fine. If your blade isn’t very sharp, I recommend changing the pressure to more.
Whitney Ormsby great questions! No you do not need to flip the image before cutting. The paint I am using is Waverly Matte Chalk Paint from Walmart. It's my favorite chalk paint by far and very reasonably priced!
The regular vinyl setting does not weed well for me. Tried vinyl+ and it wasn’t much better. I ended up using light cardstock setting and it worked the best even tho it went thru the backing in some areas. I am going to try another setting tomorrow. Maybe iron on? Not sure. I hate that I’m having such trouble with it but I know all machines differ.
Taylor Dunn I’m so sorry for the delay. I must have missed a notification for your message. So what I discovered with my machine when the settings didn’t seem to be working right, was that I needed a new blade. I hope that helps!
Great vid! How sticky is the 813?? I've been using 631 or Silhouette Brand Stencil Vinyl and It either bleeds or it pulls the base paint off my sign 😑 (even when I let the paint fully dry) I'd love to find an alternative to what I've been using just doesn't seem to be working :/
Thank you! I find that the 813 has a much better seal than other stencil brands. I only have issues with bleeding if I’m using it on a non sanded surface and don’t take my time painting. If you ever have trouble with you paint being pulled up, I recommend using mod podge or another sealer before applying the stencil.
Anita Ramirez great question! I prefer the stencil vinyl over other vinyl because it's thicker and provides a better seal. When using other oracle vinyls I have to seal it prior to painting to prevent the paint from bleeding past. Using the stencil vinyl, I don't have to seal it and I rarely have paint bleed. I hope this answers your question. Thanks for watching!
I just got Oramask 813 in for the first time. before I could even get it off the roll it started to bubble. Once I finally got it on the sticky mat it started just bubbling for no reason. Then I tried to remove the oramask from my mat the back stuck so bad! I was picking pieces of paper off my mat. Is there something wrong with my produced? Am I handling it wrong?
5bcarr hi there! I’m so sorry to hear this. Did the roll yours came on have a small center or a large center? If the roll has a small center, I have heard of the bubbles happening due to it being wound too tight. If it had the large center that definitely should not happen.
@@5bcarr I had the same problem with my Oramask I currently have it stretched out trying to flatten it. Otherwise It's useless! Thanks for the tutorial
Hello, we are wondering what kind of paint you used on the base white coat. We have used chalk paint and the 813 is leaving adhesive behind when we peal it off. Thank you for any advice.
What transfer tape do you use? I’ve been using Oracal vinyl transfer tape but I’ve had a lot of trouble with the smaller pieces on my stencil but sticking to it when I peel the backing off my stencil
Heather Laing I would start with removing the blade and cleaning it to make sure there is no build up. If it's clean and still tearing, try going down one setting so it cuts lighter. As far as the bubbling goes, I have never had that happen when laying it on the sticky mat. I'm sorry I can't be of more help on that issue. Maybe contact the company you purchased it from. Perhaps you received a bad sheet.
Sarah Calvin Hi Sarah! I usually order it in bulk so it’s on a roll, but I have also used the flat sheets when the rolls are out of stock. I’ve never had a problem with either type.
Sarah Calvin oh no that’s terrible! Did you contact the company? Maybe it was a bad roll. I’ve heard of people using a heat press (turned off) to flatten rolled sheets. Maybe that would help get the bubbles out too? I’m sorry that happened to you.
Julee Elliott Hi Julee! Is your wood sanded smooth? If you’re using it on a rough surface it does have a harder time sticking. If that is the case, you can still use it but will have to peel it off the transfer tape slowly and then paint carefully.
