What we have here is a pop song being played as if it's a classical composition, and it just doesn't work, not at all. Having a piano accompaniment that is very rigidly comprised of straight eighth notes throughout makes the whole thing sound very stiff. Ruben plays the melody in very much the same way that classical music is supposed to be played. It's very rhythmically very rigid, every grace note sounds planned and calculated, it sounds as if the music is coming from the page, rather than from the heart. Ruben should stick to his strength, which is classical music, otherwise, he should lock himself in a room for a couple of years listening to nothing but Freddie Hubbard, Clifford Brown, Louis Armstrong, Chet Baker, Miles Davis, and other jazz greats and learn how to play with some soul. If he is able to catch on (which might not be possible because he's not that young anymore) then, he can return to playing ballads and do them justice, but he should get people to accompany him who play like Bill Evans instead of these classical piano players with their classical-style accompaniments. Classical players have no clue on how to play with soul.
