@@glorysstories Only some of it. And ask yourself, has society improved since 2012 or declined? That's when smart phones came out. Technology is destroying society.
That’s what I had too-a flip phone, no internet, and only text by using the phone keypad for the letters, slowly, one at a time by choosing the number associated with the letter you want.
I most definitely love my iPhone way too much. But the original razor was my favorite. Super small and easy to carry. And who doesn’t love?“ hello Moto.”
As a fellow gen z I recently bought a kindle on a whim because of prime day and found myself getting glued to that all day instead of my phone. If I ever feel the urge to scroll I can just read my book. I’m surprised how little I touched my phone with all my reading.
Wow, the algorithm is really doing its work. As a person that literally witnessed the evolution of technology from the 1st shoebox-sized cell phones, to texting, and the rise of the internet and social media, I definitely miss the days of not being so embedded with our technology. When I was young, you had to buy actual maps from gas stations if you wanted to find directions for a place. So imagine that in 2024 its kind of quaint to think back on a time when it was normal for everyone to print out directions from Mapquest. What a time to be alive. Great video!
I'm the same generation as you are, but I went even more retro when I started using a rotary phone for 30 days straight without looking at my smartphone, to reduce screen time. It helped me a lot and for the record, I was the only ONE that still uses a rotary phone than a flip phone. The thumbnail makes me wonder if any of your friends go on the bandwagon that would follow. Now going 4 months with my rotary phone. Thank you so much!
I applaud you for coming to this conclusion in a humorous way. I have felt this way for a very long time. But to be open I was born in 1959 when phoned hung on the wall, and if we wanted to talk with someone we did it face to face 99% of the time. And oh yeah, we used pen, paper, and the US Mail service, especially for paying bills. Still, me being ancient, I enjoyed this video. I hope that you continue to grow in your freedom from such strong dependence on a phone. They are great tools, yet our life really shouldn't be tied directly to them. Looking forward to new photos and videos from you Glory.
Take a saw, hammer and nail and wood screw in a bag, for camping, if you need to chop some wood for poles in the ground and a wood root with branches and leaves etc.
I bought the same flip phone and tried this around this time last summer! It was super fun and totally helped me rethink my digital lifestyle. I eventually decided it was impractical when I got lost and the google maps didn’t work lol. Love what you guys do and wish you the best!
honestly i once would think this would be a good idea, but phones come with so so so many pros, and if not ur phone, then computer or MacBook. in today world we cant live without it, banks, job requirements, travelling (I have digital bus card), Checking assignments and hw off our school app, ordering stuff, check-in important emails. so instead of switching back to something outdated that u most likely wont be able to work with unless you don have a job and live somewhere on the country side, then we should learn how to live with our phones and work with the addiction. think of n alcoholic, every time they go to the store, the liquor will still be there and they'll have to resist. so maybe, find new hobbies, delete social media, get busy with something else so you wont go on your phone.
I guess if I would get lost in these circumstances, I would call a friend to Google Maps for me 😂 Just tell them the street signs I am seeing, and they navigate me 😃
@@User-o3m2mphones that they sell in asia would be perfect. They have smart features but are still flip phones, so scrolling is not as addictive. Like samsung folder.
I like seeing ppl going a week without their smartphone, it's an interesting idea that I should probably do lol. You guys are fun to watch and the outdoor vibes were nice!
Really enjoyed this episode Glory. It was great seeing Maddie and you together again. You two play off one another well. I was so happy to hear you are going to be joining Finn on a van excursion. Cannot wait for that. I could not be without my phone. I use it for everything so kudos to you for packing it up for a week. Until next week. C Ya!
You're not only a talented "creator" and editor but you are so damn entertaining too! 😄 I remember playing Snake on the brick of a Nokia back in the early 2000's. Gosh this is showing my age ha 😐😭
your editing has gotten so good, its always been good but now-adays i feel like im watching a video by someone with like a million followers and a professional editing team, awesome
Reminds me of the movie, No Country for Old Men when the character Lou Lewellyn Moss buys a tent, but only needs to use the poles so that he could reach into and pull out a satchel full of money from an air conditioning vents. Could it be entirely possible you bought that tent secondhand??? EL~OH~EL/JAY~KAY !!!
i did this for close to a year (from october of 2023 until last week cuz it broke!!) and it was so nice... i always got compliments on how cool it was but also so many perks of being offline! battery life was up to 5 days, i called way more than texted, and felt more aware of my surroundings at all times.. it was such a good experience :D
I find it funny that you keep referring to having "No phone" when you clearly still have a phone (Flip Phone... with Internet connection, and if set up, you can still use it for emails, and of course texts etc.), while obviously not your iPhone. Having a flip phone, pre internet, toooooooooooootally different experience, fo sho !!! LOL
They will hate you. The only reason my parents didn't get me a flip phone is because I can't hardly read the tiny screen and texting would be pain. Plus, I would get bullied horribly if I had a flip phone.
I think you should try it OG style. Only answer/use your phone if you are at home and have set hours you work to use your computer. Otherwise you are disconnected. For a work week. 5 days
Another nice week in the life. You sorry to have Maddy leave… ? Thank you for your very nice story telling style. I don’t know what I would do without my phone for a week. Lotsa ❤, and see what is next weeks topic,
let's see, going without a 'smart' phone for a week. Try 50 plus years and then another 10 with a flip phone before 'upgrading 'to an iPhone 7. Now that's roughing it. Welcome to my generation. Fun video.
I used to have a flip phone a little bit over 10 years ago before my first iPhone on my birthday July 25th,2014 which was my 44th one. My last flip phone was LG Wine 2. I think that I won’t go back to a flip phone at all. I have been using an iPhone for 10 years. I still do have iPhone 8, SE(2), and my current iPhone is a 14 in purple. I do liked iPhones because they are so easy to used for me.
My old flip phone had no internet lol. I had another one with an internet browser that only kind of worked so you’d have to really use it for only what you need
I dropped my phone in the pool last month and it was horrible because I lost access to my banking (venmo & BOA) and i also don’t have a computer or tv. so there was a lot of stuff i needed access to. BUT I LOVED IT. AND I DIDN’T WANT TO BUY ANOTHER BECAUSE PHONES ARE STUPID. no one knew where i was and no one knew how to reach me. but i had to buy a new one eventually. 😪
I didn't even know you could check screen time on a smart phone. I used my phone yesterday as an experience and... well... I got 7 minutes screen time. Guess I'm not much of a heavy user after all. Well, back to my dumb phone lol
I hope you take maydelyn with you in next video, in your 4×4 offroad, It's offroad, right? Anyways, you guys make a great team, she makes it fun, otherwise you alone looked saddened in those videos to me.
love this!! also gen Z & I've been living with a flip phone for almost 10 months and never want to go back. unfortunately, I will have to go back next winter when I travel because so many things nowadays are smartphone dependant, especially when you travel (like tickets or ubers or QR codes or venmo ;) ) but for everyday life, it's such a nice break. and personally, I don't think the fact that you were busy was cheating, I've found that since I've had my flip phone I have made more efforts to busy myself because when I get bored I am TRULY bored with nothing to distract me. loved your video:)
@glorysstories It’s definitely doable! Just gotta think ahead and print out things like boarding passes (similar to how you printed out the directions), have cash or card on hand, etc
I used to have a flip phone from 2009 to like 2014 till I got my first iPhone I think it would definitely be a little bit of getting used to going back
honestly i once would think this would be a good idea, but phones come with so so so many pros, and if not ur phone, then computer or MacBook. in today world we cant live without it, banks, job requirements, travelling (I have digital bus card), Checking assignments and hw off our school app, ordering stuff, check-in important emails. so instead of switching back to something outdated that u most likely wont be able to work with unless you don have a job and live somewhere on the country side, then we should learn how to live with our phones and work with the addiction. think of n alcoholic, every time they go to the store, the liquor will still be there and they'll have to resist. so maybe, find new hobbies, delete social media, get busy with something else so you wont go on your phone.
That is crazy that you have enough places around you that can take apple pay that you dont need to carry your wallet. I think I can count the number of places I go to within an hour of me that takes apple pay on one hand.
My eldest son recently made that same classic camping mistake… forgot the tent poles. After that, he put a pop up roof tent on top of his 4WD. He’ll never have that issue again. Good to see Madz again. Know how she feels about getting allergies. I also got altitude sickness visiting the volcanoes there. Funny video Glorz. Laughed my bum off. 😂 See ya next time. Aloha 🤙🏽
@@nedhill1242 & that assumption is exactly how they got left behind. They simply weren’t put back in the tent bag, obviously… & wasn’t checked when packed.
You challenged yourself to use a flip phone and I find it hilarious because I am probably in one of the last generations to get a flip phone as their first phone. (iPhone came out a couple years before I graduated high school) and the only challenge associated with my flip phone was keeping track of how many text messages and minutes I had left before I hit my limit. 😅 didn’t want them overage charges 😂
Well i was born in 1974 and i got my first mobile phone in 1998, not smartphone but mobile. Try going without a mobile phone or a smartphone for a very extended period of time, not just a week, but years. You'll find that you change a few things but life goes on.
i ogtta say u popped on my recemented videos and im glad i need a new person to watch and enjoy the other side of yt aahah yt became soo drama bullshit thanks for the refreshing new stuff 8/7/24
I used a push phone without internet for 3 months... the amount of self control and awareness that increased in me was beyond my expectations. Today, I'm able to control my urge to take the phone much much better compared to earlier and can resist the urge to take it even if 10 (unimportant but stimulating) notifications pop up at once. You also realize how the society around you is so oblivious to the rest of the world even when they are right next to each other, and it is seriously disappointing...
Can you send photos and videos via text with this phone? And can you turn your data off when you're not using it? Just asking because I'm considering getting a phone like this :)
