My Welding Table Build | Table Frame - Nice Legs and Billet Caster Plates

Watch me build a heavy-duty frame with billet machined caster plates for my welding table. As usual, I mix cnc machining and welding fabrication together to make an over the top shop project. The table is getting mighty heavy for a little shop fixture table and I am not done yet. Next up I will build a custom built-in storage cabinet with drawers and some side racks to organize fixture clamps and accessories. Thanks for watching!
If you missed the table top video, here it is, go check it out.

Thank you for not putting stupid music on your video. Nothing better than hearing the sounds made by the machinery etc. It's half the fun of doing metal work.

I've watched a bunch of build videos for these tables, and each one has shown some great techniques and designs, but it almost seems like you all are in a competition to see who can make the heaviest/most unwieldy and most difficult to flip onto it's legs. Excellent series and attention to detail!

@@nubtools Almost immediately after I watched this video, another one popped in my recommended list and the description mentioned it weighed almost a ton. I am just about to start teaching my self how to weld so I can finish my rebuild of a 66 Mustang that was completely rusted out, so I'm collecting as many ideas/tips/tricks etc that I can get.

I didn't see you need to grind a single weld. I once read somewhere that if you needed to grind your welds, then you are a grinder and not a welder. I know nothing about what you are doing, but I know enough to appreciate a Master at work. I am getting inspired to learn the craft.

BEAUTIFUL work. And I didn't get welding it without machining it, bc I thought welding such a large frame would introduce not only heat-deformation, but very convoluted deformation; twisting parts and compressing others to hide issues within other issues, etc. But then I saw you adding those 'jacks' I guess..? Which I assume can be individually adjusted to make a perfectly flat plane ... very very knowledgeable and calculated project. I guess you probably would machine it flat it weren't a monstrous area to do. Again, beautiful work
@nubtools

Thanks! I had the frame machined flat after all welding was completed.

Kool shop. Nice to see a true machinist make one of these. A lot of hacks out there. I’ve been a toolmaker/fabricator for 50+ years. Certainly over kill using a CNC but hey like you said, SATISFACTION. Love the Monarch, one of the best lathes out there. And a nice Doosan lathe. My sons bought my CNC machine shop several years ago. Two years ago they bought one of them. Quite happy with it. Majority of our lathes are Miyano which are very good but DN Solutions (was Doosan and Daewoo prior) are building great machines at reasonable prices. BTW your Tig Is extremely good. Nice video too. In fact I’ll subscribe , nice to watch someone who gets it

That is one good reason why a machined surface on a welding table is not a good idea. Applying heat is going to move the table top whether it is future projects or as you have experienced while you are building it. No point to get an expensive precision top. You will also be grinding out spatter and tack welds all of which diminish a precision top. You will get much more use out of it if you don't have to baby it along. Save the precision for where it is really needed in the shop. Good looking table.

Always love the beautiful results you get. I am working on a fabrication table, at the moment. Mine is larger, 43"×67". I am afraid mine will not come close to matching the beauty of yours. Yesterday, I drilled 117 of the 273 5/8 " holes I need to since it was a fairly nice day in Michigan (56°) for a few hours. By the way I didn't mention I am working out of a shipping container since, as you know, my shop burned down. Hopefully, since the weather is going to be unseasonably warm this week, I should finish the holes Wednesday. Anyway, the hold downs you used in the framework welding. Are they fireball or did you make them. Demon.
@nubtools
@nubtools 2 года назад
Thanks! I am sure yours is great. 117 holes down wooohooo! That’s a bummer about your shop but glad to hear you’re making due. The hold down clamps were purchased from fireball tool,they are strong hand brand. Thanks for watching!!

My only concern with the frame is that a lot of the holes will foul on it unless you drill into said frame. The 50x50mmx5mm (Edit looks a bit thicker than 3mm) RHS you are using is fine but the 16mm plate and 10/12mm components only add to the depth of the table if that makes sense. Just my 2 cents either way.

Been watching this video getting ideas for when I build my own - love the table and the work you are putting into this, but I feel this beyond what most people can achieve without the kind of tools you have at your disposal. Would love to know what you think the build cost is & do you think it might be just a little bit over engineered.
@nubtools
@nubtools 2 года назад
Thanks for watching! I am glad it’s getting your wheels turning. You are absolutely correct that what I am doing and how I am doing it is not reachable for the average guy unless they have the same tools. But anyone can strive to achieve the highest level permissible with what they have. My videos are not meant to be how to’s at ALL. They are for entertainment and hopefully motivating for some to get going on their own projects in what ever way fits them. I’ll probably have $1200-$1500 in it when all said and done. And whether or not it’s over engineered, well that’s kind of subjective, for me no, but for most sure, I get that. Good luck to you on your table build and if you are on Instagram share some pictures, tag me @nubtools. Thanks again for watching.
