I have tasted some fantastic whiskies this year, it was really hard to pick one winner. This video will only include original bottlings from distilleries with some honorable mentions some of which are limited editions. I will not include any whiskies which are absurdly expensive or from independent bottllers.
My whisky of the year might surprise some of my subscribers, it sure surprised me when I tasted it. After careful consideration of price, value for money, performance and sheer taste, I have chosen this young dram to be my whisky of the year.
I hope you enjoy this video and please tell me what is your whisky of the year.

Great picks, Sertug. Can't say I've tried the Deanston, but I've tried the rest and they're all bangers! Lagg is a beauty and a nice unexpected choice. Btw, it was your review that pushed me to grab that Talisker Parley. Great stuff! 🥃

Thank Geoff, the Lagg was unexpected for me too but I just couldn't deny how good it was for good value! Ah I'm glad you liked the Parley, a other unexpectedly good whisky. I did get the Surge after talking to you so I will try that soon. Cheers my friend, roll on whiskytube 2024!🥃

On the topic of the video - I have never heard of Lagg. I have tried Langs though, which is a sort of poverty spec whisky, but I find it delicious, especially at its price point (about the same as a bottle of Dewar's Caribbean Smooth).

Fantastic choices!! I love all of the expressions you chose in your Top 5 whiskies of the year and I really love the Lagg. Unexpected and particularly delicious!! I will definitely be looking for more! Hey the Highland Park Travel Retail Edition sounds terrific! I also saw Geoff's review and I have really enjoy both videos talking about this scotch! Wow I would love to find it. That heather sounds amazing in the scotch!! Yes shout out to Adnamurchan too!! Happy 2024!! Peace!! 🙂

Thank you for a very interesting list. I have heard of most of your list, but have never tried any. Not many of those I can find. My whisky of the year is Glenglassaugh Torfa. A Highland with peat. So, so delicious.

Glad you like the list and I hope you get to try some of them this year. I really enjoyed the Torfa when I first tried it but it just went flat after a shortwhile. I actually did a video about it, one of my first on RU-vid. It's discontinued now so if you love it I'd suggest grabbing a few now :) Cheers 🥃

The Machrie Moor will soon be discontinued once the casks are used up so stock up if you like it.

Great list Sertug! Love this especially the honorable mentions! That Czech whisky 🇨🇿!!! A cross between Springbank and Benromach, buddy, you're speaking my love language hahah 😆 Sadly I slept on that Ledaig 9 Bourdeaux. But I'm disappointed to not have tried Lagg yet. What is wrong with me haha 😄 Buddy, again, great list! Happy holidays if you celebrate this time of year and happy new year man!

I visited Prague back in 2021 and visited the R Jelinek showroom to sample and learn about their famous eau de vie called slivovitz, made from plums. It was there that I discovered that they made whisky. I tried and liked both the Goldcock 20 yo and the Goldcock Peated. It was a tough call but I opted to buy the peated when in fact I should have bought both. I did of course buy one of their vintage dated slivovitzs.

Wow that's a nice story and a good tip for me for the next time I visit Prague. I don't think I'd ever tried slivovitz but I think it's like a fruit brandy or grappa style spirit isn't it? I've not tried the peated one but the 20 was just delicious! Cheers

Yes, slivovitz is a fruit brandy, like a German schnapps, or a French eau de vie. It is not quite grappa as that is made from grape skins and seeds.@@thewhiskyenthusiast

Nice video & some great choices, others I haven't tried or can't even find here (quite intrigued by this Czech whisky I have to say, and by the Dornoch I haven't tried too). Some audacious WOTY choice there, I liked their recent expressions at WLP as I said it on my channel, but based on one tasting only, I wouldn't pick as my Top 5 (& I'll put the Sherry over the Bourbon one for some reason). I second you on The Lakes (I had batch 5 & 6 only) & loved your definition of it, it is exactly that for me too, on top of my wishlist along with those Millstone that blew me away recently, but there are so many interesting whiskies & some big names I couldn't even try....Cheers !

Thanks Greg, glad you enjoyed it! You're right there are way too many whiskies around these days so it's really hard to try them all and even harder to pick :) I haven't tried the sherry Lagg but I'm not a massive sherried whisky fan so I think I'll still stick with the bourbon cask. Yeah I get what you're saying, it's not the most interesting or the most complex whisky but it's just impressive at this age to be this good, and it's very moreish :) Cheers Greg, happy holidays ahead 🥃

Great dram, great choice! I've been really enjoying it too. It will be interesting to see what we get from all these new distilleries over the next decade. Like Arran, I think many of them will be shaking up the whisky world. Cheers 🥃

Lagg batch 2 is incredibly good I'm just back from the distillery i got the peated fingals cut quarter cask the two Arran blends the new make and the barrel reserve. After tasting i think i should have got the cask strength strength but not open it as they are stopping making it will be lagg from now on .

@@thewhiskyenthusiast yeah I tried a few laggs and they really hit the mark . The new spirit lagg was surprisingly nice and sweet will use it to lift some lesser malts and blends. Happy new year when it comes, subscribed this morning. 👍🥃🥃

Hey man. Your channel is obviously modest at the time being, but I honestly hope you can make it big. Not to be a hater, but IMO you really need to upgrade your backdrop (your studio where you film), it feels as if you do your filming inside a fridge, it's very claustrophobic) greetings from a fellow whisk(e)y enthusiast from Mother Russia

Did you get a chance to grab a bottle of that Thompson Bros release of Glen Garioch 2012 at 48.5% - litrerally one of the most amazing compex flavours in that release man , for the price it was a steal at around 60 pounds. Wish i got a few of them cos ya cant get them now.

No I have not unfortunately. There are just so many releases and even though I do love trying IBs, for the channel to available for everyone I try to focus on OB releases which are relatively easier to find. I do enjoy the Glen Garioch profile though so I'll keep an eye out for sure. Thanks for watching and the recommendation

wow, goldcock should pay you for such an advertising review. looking forward to try that dram. i'm from brazil and we have a a very good distillery in my homestate called UNION. if you can get your hands on it def get it, its surprisingly legit! (at least i was quite shocked the first time i tried it). the deanston bordeaux is a regular on my shelf, looking forward to try the ledaig 9 cs, i never got to see it avaiable i'd love to see your takes on the octomores. cheers

Hahaha well let's talk to them and negotiate a price 😅 You're very lucky to have a distillery near you. I have heard of Union, I think Cadenheads have a bottling of them but I have never tried it. I will look for it better now. I hope you like the Ledaig 9, it is beautiful. I'm not a massive fan of Octomores to be honest. I think they're massively overpriced and don't really deliver on the peat hit I'd want them to. This is due to them using mainland peat which for me falls short of that dirty, medicinal, iodine peat coming from Ardbegs and Laphroaigs which I absolutely love.
