It turns on a zephyr! -- My homemade, freestanding garden wind vane is 12 feet off the ground and has been reliably spinning into the wind for more than 8 years. This video tells the story.
Love this! I had no idea what a weather vane was for. Was never told; didn't ask. Just saw them on houses long ago. But, Herrick, after you explained that it tells you the coming weather, makes me want one. It uses the same principle as the wind sock on the air field (my husband flies), telling you the direction from which to land!
Love your ideas! I used a similar system in Wisconsin. For that one, I used a hard nylon ball as the balance bearing. It worked great, and was 'self lubricating.' I have a stash of old aluminum flat license plates just waiting for a new job in the weather service. Cheers for a great idea!
I became aware of this amazing man with the chicken plucker machine. I built it and it was awesome. Next I built his chicken scalder. Lastly I bought his water switch that was irreplaceable in processing birds.
