Welcome to our video on how my wife reacts to riding my Kawasaki ZX-9R for the first time. Wifey currently rides a 125cc, so how will she do on a 900cc? Will this experience convince the wifey to get her full licence?

extra thoughts about 160 seconds in, why the hell is he putting someone with exclusively experience on a 125 on a zx9r with a "sticky throttle"

Huge respect to you Mrs.Gobsy. You had that courage necessary to test yourself and you came out the other side shining!

Good effort but I'd say get her some good boots (not those ankle ones you wear) and get her some jeans which have CE2 knee pads because she's Gonna drop it. Especially because slow speed manoeuvres are the most difficult. Good boots and knee pads could save her a lot of pain. Second thing is she says she doesn't enjoy it so why push her. Get her a light naked bike or cruiser. Even experienced bikers struggle with those big old heavy bikes sometimes. Edit: put her on one or two days riding course at your local driving school so she can gain confidence under instruction of an actual trainer. You're letting her ride while her feet are splayed out and she's holding front brake constantly at slow speed manoeuvres. She's also not successfully doing a u turn at slow speeds. Get her back into riding school. You won't regret it!!!!!! LightningPass school is good if you're near Reading, Oxford or London. Get her 1:1 training

Reminds me when I went from a Honda CG125 to a Kwak GPZ 750- those first few minutes of " steady does it" followed by " this is OK actually". Well done to you for having a go. Nice one Mrs G.

Bravo to your wife for doing this, but dude she's telling you she's uncomfortable, doesn't like it and that it's hurting her. I would have called it rather than laughing it off and pressuring her to continue.

Good job mrs G! This takes me back to when my wife had her ninja 300 and I pulled her over on a ride and made her ride my R1 home, had to spring it on her because with time to panic about it she would have done, she rode it very well and it sowed the seed and not long after she passed her test and got a beautiful 675 Daytona which she still has, keep up the great work and get on that z h2 soon, you’ll probably find it less intimidating with the riding position and the low rpm fuel injection manners compared to lumpy carbs

It’s true, people in the USA sometimes start in bikes that big. I started on an old Honda Goldwing. I now ride a flashed and fully unrestricted 2021 Zx14r (ZZR 1400).

And what do you do with the ZZR 14K in a country where there is a speed limit almost everywhere and speeding is punishable by prison?

@@giostisskylas in Miami, there are no speed cameras and the police have a no chase policy. We have the straightest road in world in south Florida with no lights or intersections bordering the Everglades. As it’s currently set up, I’m topping out at 195mph (314 kph). Really is not the speed, it’s the stupid amount of torque that I love. I also own a 2024 zx4rr, that’s fun too. 👍

I pretty much started on big bikes. I once rode my brothers Kawasaki GPZ-1000RX when I was 19, then sold that, got a GSXR-750J Slingshot, road that too before I decided to get my rider's license which meant that I had to have a 250cc learner legal bike for while. Once I was fully licensed about 2 years later, I bought my first proper bike, a 1994 ZX-9R B1 model. Owned it for 12 years then sold it. Now I have 2 ZX-9R E2 bikes plus two 1983 Honda VT250FD and an FII for nostalgia. I had no issues adjusting to the big bike at all. I felt more safer on it than the 250 to be brutally honest. It's all up to the rider.

It’s funny how different riders find different positions more appealing than others. I started on Standards and Cruisers But something was always missing. Once I got on a Sportbike…. I was HOME. I was on an 03 954RR (Super comfy to me) it got totaled last year when someone ran a redlight and almost killed me. Now I’m on an 06 1000RR and it’s also super comfortable for me. Also, I’m a tall midget @ 5’4 😂🤷‍♂️😂 PS, When the fans sacred her I was crying laughing 😂

She did well! I can relate to her discomfort when I started to ride my Yamaha 650 VStar at the age of 69. :) Several bikes later I have now settled on a HD Heritage Softail Springer and a Honda Blackbird. I am still working on restoring a Kawasaki ZX 9R which should be ready by next spring. My biggest mistake was going to slow. Forward momentum is my best friend.

Starting on a ZX9R as first bike is kinda dumb, it can be done of course, but its always better to be able to walk well before you try to run, always works out better, you will always run better and in a faster time if you learn to walk proper first!

I think it was very astute of wifey to notice the change in noise and panic a bit, because if that wasn't a normal function of the bike and it wasn't able to be heard through the intercom, then it could have been a problem that could cause mechanical problems soon, that was a very brave attempt and brisk confidence elevation when fears were being dispelled, would love to see her going to 2nd or 3rd gear next when she feels ready, and as you say, faster feels a bit more stable, plus stops the fan kicking in as much, I had the twin headlight 2000 model of that for 14yrs and loved it, but this year sold it and downgraded to a 125 Honda Monkey, maybe I'm mad, but I don't really need a sport bike anymore, not my riding style really, but I have to say, one thing I never had problem with was arms pain even though quite a lot of people do put weight on thier arms on those bikes.. the legs gripping tank and truck should support your back, with a bit of help from head wind over the stock screen lol

@Goblin - "People in the U.S. first learn to ride on bikes like this" Yup. *Raises hand* Bronx, NYC circa early naughts - same color, too. And once the Ram-Air Box gets pressured - 😳😲...😁. But that said, invest in a steering anti-shimmy damper.

I have similarly a honda 919 and a 125 grom and im used to both now but to go from the 125 to the 900 is a big scary step when its your first or 5th time even w the weight and how it handles w the big increase in power too.. wow good on you for trying it being a scary thing to do. Maybe a little smaller 600 or so w a different riding style more upright. 125 is super fun but ya it does have its limitations where even a 450 and up would be able to keep up more or less w the 900 well at least able to do proper highway riding if thats what your doing . 125 is ok but has its limitations. But then again, you don't have limitations really as your able to do it no problems as its mind over matter , once you get past the initial scare stage youll get used to all the differences anyways. Just because it's bigger doesn't mean you have to crank it, you can just go easy on the acceleration to what your comfortable with until you want to crank it cause your used to it now. You can do anything if your willing to try .no limitations just take it easy at first . Ride w your high beams on so they see you and be safe out there. 😁

That was uneasy to watch. The Mrs. doesn't appear to have natural bike control. You should put her on her 125cc and have her practice riding it as slowly as she can, especially uphill. She needs to relax her arms, learn to slip the clutch in and out for propulsion and momentum, to crawl the bike along. That knowledge will translate to better balance and bike control. Then she could jump on any bike and feel a lot more comfortable, because she'll know the basics to controlling and balancing the bike at low speeds. Riding a big dangerous superbike in such confined quarters probably won't increase her bike control skills much. It was also uneasy to watch because I'm a huge proponent for ATGATT. Jeans are little more than cellophane when you impact the road surface. Decent riding boots that go up to your calves are a must too. Anticipate the injuries you could sustain. Gear up with the mindset of reducing those risks. She contemplated if she crashed today. Well, if she had, she'd be lucky not to have taken a bit of skin off or worse. At ~215 Kgs, a large powerful bike like a ZX-9R won't be something she'll want landing on top of her lower extremities. Lastly, starting many carburetted motorcycles @2:07 when they're hot, left stewing the carburetors while the bike is tilted to the side on the side-stand should require no choke and some throttle, due to fuel heat expansion, thus flooding. Heat soaked carburetors will have a bit of fuel seepage into the intakes, flooding the bike upon hot startup, if left for more than a few minutes. If your ZX-9R tends to flood in such a manner, the trick is to anticipate turning the fuel tap to OFF several hundreds of meters before you stop the bike. Then turn it back to ON when starting the engine or shortly thereafter. It'll make the next start-up that much easier too, even if it's started the next day or a week later.

When someones riding a bigger sized street bike for the first time that power wheelies you should be just reminding them the only difference is that if they give it to much gas theyll wheelie and possibly crash from that wheelie. Just that over and over. Get used to reving the throttle slowly then drivr slowly faster and faster

@@markg_r1751 Actually, since you asked. I didn't have nerves riding a big bike for the first time. It came naturally as I had ridden motorcycles before this for most of my life. Mostly 250's and smaller, then some time later got to riding 750's and up. That's where you learn your chops. If you have spent time riding a smaller bike and are nervous and shaky on a big bike, what does that tell you ?? I cannot see that woman handle that ZX9R safely. I didn't say what I said to put her down. I am genuinely concerned for her safety. Then you come along like a knight in Shining Armour to rescue her from the big bad world of people who don't think with their penis.
