Jenn picking up everything and not putting it together while Holden just tries to keep his mouth shut is EVERYTHING!!!! Her noticing Bruce Willis wearing the same shirt has me in tears! I got to go to the premier of this in NY when I was in high school and this movie was so good crazy. That reveal at the end was the best ever and the whole theater was in shock.

Jen saying "well that's sad" at the end to how Cole will now live a life of helping ghosts is the entire plot to the show Ghost Whisperer, which was an excellent show in my opinion. Not sure if that'd ever be something reacted to, but it essentially tells the story of what would happen to someone like Cole who embraced their ability.
@Bad_Wolf_Media
@Bad_Wolf_Media 11 месяцев назад
This movie is so sad. The conversation between Cole and his mom, very early on, where she talks about winning the lottery, quitting her jobs, fantasy stuff that seems like it's never going to happen, and his responses are getting picked first for a team, winning the game, and being celebrated. It's such a small thing, but so sad.

What makes this movie great is that it works without the twist. At its heart it's a sad movie about two broken families: a widow trying to put the pieces together after her husband is murdered, and a struggling single mother and her unpopular, bullied son trying to move on from the loss of the dad. The twist is just icing on top of that heartfelt core

This movie terrified me as a kid. I couldnt watch it all without covering my eyes lol. This movie has become so iconic and had a plot twist that almost no one saw coming. As comedian Nate Bargatze says about the movie and the topic of the silent treatment, "That was the biggest plot twist we ever saw, we just thought his wife just wasnt talking to him for like a year; that made more sense to us than the possibility of being dead" 😂

I honestly think that little Cole knew Malcolm was dead all along. I sort of thought it near the end when he suggested that he try talking to his wife when she was asleep. If he didn’t know it at the beginning, pretty sure he knew it soon after going to the little girl’s funeral.

Many people seem to miss or forget the fact that when Cole's mom is having a nightmare, he talks to her in her sleep, and successfully calms her down. She "listens without knowing it." So while I agree that Cole knew Malcolm was a ghost the whole time, his advice to Malcolm to talk to his wife in her sleep is not necessarily evidence of it. Rather, he's suggesting a technique that worked for him with his mom.

Great reaction! I thought there was a chance Jenn would figure it out when she noticed he was wearing the same shirt! And the acting is top notch! (Including Donnie Whalburg who was only on screen for a few minutes)

25:50 It's stated in the film that the spirits are drawn to him. Remember when the mother Lynn is looking at the photos on the wall and there is a shine near baby Cole each time? Malcolm was following(haunting) Cole for a while, making observations of him before he ever actually tried to speak to Cole. As far using pen/paper/audio recorders? What can I say, Malcolm is a ghost on a mission to save a little boy, and little details won't stop him.

)9:35 ......As a person that suffered bullying from elementary till the end of higschool, I can tell that this type of rage never goes away..... you just learn to coexist with that, but it never leaves you, and to trigger those feelings is easier than many people can understand. Even today, 35 years old and I'm still angry every day of my life; I've just learn to silence and accept those feelings so I can move on, to don't let them dominate me, but that doesn't mean they're just gone. Hell, probably they'll never be gone and I'll be angry till the day I die...... Something I never see pointed out in this movie is that Cole’s glasses DO have lenses but Malcolm thinks he doesn’t because he can’t see his reflection(and Malcolm saying this to Cole immediately scares him out of the church) That is the first definitive clue and it’s in the beginning of the movie. The movie even shows a close up of the glasses to show the lenses in the camera shot to tell the audience that Malcolm is wrong.

I think one of the most complex shots in the entire film is when Olivia Williams (Bruce Willis' movie wife) packs her purse in the restaurant and says "Happy aniversary." Because a lot of things depend on that delivery. To a first-time viewer, it must sound like a sadly angry wife ironically wishing a happy anniversary to the husband who just ruined the anniversary. But by the end of the film, we find out that it wasn't directed at the husband at all. That it was ironic, but in the sense of "instead of a romantic celebration of a beautiful anniversary, I'm sitting here sadly alone, the widow of a murdered husband." If the actress had played it wrong, she could have given a lot away, or the effect of the final twist wouldn't have been so strong. People have been praising the wonderful mother played by Tony Colette in connection with this film. The fantastic Haley Joel Osment. Donnie Wahlberg, who lost about twenty pounds for a few dozen seconds of his role. But it seems to me that Olivia is a little forgotten. People see her as an unfaithful woman, and only at the end do they find out that she's a tormented, fiercely loyal widow who's afraid to "tarnish" her dead husband's memory with a new relationship.

I never noticed he wore the same clothes or caught on to how odd it was for the child psychologist to show up at his school. Loved Haley Joel Osment's performance in Pay it Forward. The Good Son has Elijah Wood and Macaulay Culkin at ten years old doing such a great job and more recently the kid from Room, Jacob Tremblay, has had a lot of great child performances.

1. Haley Joel Osment played Forrestt Gump Jr, in "AI" and absolutely kills in this.😎 2. I first knew when he met his wife when she was morning him alone at the anniversary meal. Only one place setting. 3. I watched my now ex to see when she got it but she never picked it up until the reveal. 4. They help each other. 5. Cole knew he wouldn't see Malcolm again. 6. Cole to Malcolm, "Sometimes magic's real". 7. A fun movie for review of a Bruce Willis is, "The Last Boy Scout". HINT HINT 8. Missing you Bruce.😥

This is a" birth of the hero " movie. Symbolically, the kid is like King Arthur, and the Bruce Willis character is his Merlin, tasked to help Cole develop his talent.

The only part that really contradicts the rules this film sets during the hospital scene when Cole is telling Bruce Willis about seeing dead people is that he says "They don't know that they're dead" but there's clear evidence of many of the ghosts knowing they're dead. Like the boy showing where his dad keeps his gun, the burned lady in the school, and also the little girl getting Cole to find the video tape to show her dad, they all have to know they're dead to show Cole the way they died in order to help them move on. Other than that I really don't see any other contradictions to the film's own rules which is why the film is so well-done. Supposedly all of M. Night Shyamalan'sn movies (excluding The Last Airbender) are in a connected universe and Cole is supposed to be a super powered individual like the characters from Unbreakable, Split, Glass, and the characters from Lady In The Water. During the press tour for Glass it was mentioned that M Night wanted to create a grounded superhero franchise and that Cole and the other aforementioned characters were supposed to be in the same universe as all being grounded superheroes. I think it would've been very interesting to see that come to fruition where an older Cole is seasoned in his experience helping ghosts come across David Dunn and Kevin Wendell Crumb, but I don't know if the inconsistency of MNS quality in his film's would've done well, but I'd still find it interesting to see.

What makes you think the boy offering to show where his dad keeps his gun knows he's dead?

Check out Secondhand Lions! Great Haley Joel Osment film from when he was a teenager with Michael Caine and Robert Duvall. I've watched it many times over the years.

Love that one. I always laugh at the overdub when Jasmine says "I must meet this man" but it's Michael Cain's voice.

11:33 was the scene that disturbed me the most. It still creeps me out today. People forget the impact this movie had beyond “I see dead ppl” quote.

Ahhh the movie that was unintentionally great as it was and thus spwaned the hilarity in "what a TWIST!" & "Shamalamadingdong!" So he M. Night didn't actually intend for the *reveal* to be as epic as it was, he said when the scene "I see dead people" he zoomed in on Bruce Willis as to straight up say to the audience "HE'S A GHOST!" THAT was meant to be the audience reveal right there and later was the reveal for the character 😂😂😂 I guess we can either blame M.K.S. for not being even more obvious with the close-up or ourselves for not getting what was obvious whichever your personal ego/pride can tolerate. Thinking about it I believe most of us now would look at any other film and when they exposit so much critical plot then zoom directly on a character face we'd immediately go "well he's a ghost(in a movie like this) or everyone's a ghost" or something similar to figuring out or coming close to what the *twist* actually is and not be totally surprised like we were with this one.
