I feel like every toy story tells a different part of adulthood and it oddly also lines up with being a father. Toy Story 1 - Learning that you won't be the focus forever and coming to terms with that. Buzz coming into Andy's life mirrored a baby being born and the mother changing her priorities and focus from the husband to the child. Toy Story 2 - Not giving up even when you know the fun will eventually end. Woody's whole conflict mirrored seeing a child grow up and knowing you're getting old and worrying they won't need you some day. Toy Story 3 - Letting them go when the fun ends. This felt the most strong handed analogy. Andy going to college and Woody's struggle was like a father seeing his kid finally leaving the home. Toy Story 4 - Finding yourself when they move out and move on. Woody is dealing with the same things a father goes through when their kid has a family of their own and the father is trying to find where he fits now.

@@theprotagonist1311 They could still tell more storys that related to fatherhood. If Pixar has the balls they'd kill off Woody in the 5th movie and have it an analogy with dealing with your own mortality

@Marnie_C idk if woody should be the one to die. Could just kill a parent or child off and have the toy represent the healing with a loss. How does a toy deal with the loss of their human? Being left behind or forgotten is one thing but a toy can't bring back a person but a parent can buy a new one and tell the kid its the same like with lotso.

Even if this is the most liked comment, still underrated comment. I remember when I watched along together with my parents the whole series before the 4th came out, my mother had the same analogy. Especially since she can point outh her friends similar situations with their life. I hope Holden gonna read this.

I was unsure of how I felt about the ending when I first saw the film but over time grew to appreciate it. Woody wasn't being played with and missed Bo. Even though he liked Bonnie he didn't seem to have closure after Andy left. So at his heart he is still Andy's toy and was loyal to his memory. And by the end he's officially been "retired" and with Bo they help other toys find children to play with

I can literally rant for 10 plus hours going over every single bit of this movie that I HATE! They destroyed basically every moral of the first 3 multiple times and, within seconds at times throughout the movie. Every character we love from the trilogy does at least one thing out of character, more than half of them broke character countless times, including Jessie, Bo Peep, Buzz, and of course Woody. I don't care if Woody needed "closure," in your eyes. In my opinion he got it. He CHOSE to give ANDY the CHOICE to pass him along to Bonnie along with the other toys. AGAIN! Woody CHOSE to let ANDY choose to pass Woody to Bonnie HIMSELF! Woody didn't go to Bonnie's in secret. Woody didn't go into the College box where Andy wanted him to be. He went in the box that would give ANDY the CHOICE. Bonnie had no choice. And that's not even the worst thing about the film. Although, it's pretty bad. Everything from the opening scene gaslighting you to believe the driveway was on the left of the house, when it was on the right in the 4th movie, to Gabby Gabby GETTING WHAT SHE WANTED WITH ALMOST NO REPERCUSSIONS, to Buzz being the one to tell Woody to go with Bo, to the original toys being shoved in an RV to do next to nothing the whole film, to the insulting, hurtful insinuations with Forky's problem of wanting to be thrown away. Everything about this movie is the worst! THERE IS NO REDEEMING IT! I can only hope that the 5th movie has the RV break down and Bonnie's family be forced to go back and Bo ends up hiding out in the RV and going with and being a "Lost toy" (hate that btw) and visiting every once in a while. OR, alternatively make me like that Woody stayed. Make it so he has a journey with a toy who has the worst luck getting a kid at the carnival. A LIKABLE toy. or multiple. But even that won't change everything about the 4th movie! I could go on, but that will suffice for now. I recommend watching a youtube video called "Toy Story 4 Destroyed Everything!" That video is 6 hours long and deep dives into everything I hate about the movie. He says it way better than I could here.

Me personally i thought this was a perfect ending. 3 was the best for me but Woody after sacrificing soo much for his owners, deserved to be selfish for once and do something for himself. And his goodbye to the group was heartwarming. I seriously recommend you guys watch the kung fu panda trilogy after this. It is quite honestly a perfect animated trilogy.

I liked the idea of Woody Not being bonny's favorite. But he is still commited to making her happy by helping her make forky. His purpose is to make kids happy even if he isn't there. He prioritized the kid and not his own wants. Now he continues to do that on a grander scale now with the carnival and he can be with bo.

Can we talk about Woody’s development? In the first film he was so selfish and wanted to be the favorite toy. He would do anything to be. Now he’s an after thought (the disrespect) and risks his life for a SPORK just to make the kid happy. Truly one of the best characters ever. Love Woody.

I'm not super hard on the ending for Toy Story 4 because he was always loyal to his kids, but over the course of the movie, you can see him start to shift what he wants out of life when seeing what Bo has and what life he could have with her. He lets go of what he thought his duty was and listened to his heart and I think his development to get to that decision is well executed.

@jasontodd6822

While I feel Toy Story 3 is the perfect ending to the series I found that Toy Story 4 was meant to finish Woody's story that's why it was heavily focused on him. Woody is loyal to an extend but remember the 1st movie he tried to get rid of Buzz out of jealousy and in Toy Story 2 he was being selfish to leave Andy and just become an attraction to Japan until he was reminded the joys of having a owner by Buzz. In Toy Story 3 he was loyal to Andy and said it will be fun while it lasts in Toy Story 2 to be with him while he can and he wanted to make sure his Toy family would be safe. So Woody is loyal to his kid but not to the degree you guys are thinking. Now in this movie he's very loyal to Bonnie to make sure she can be happy. What I dislike the most about this movie is that Andy asked Bonnie to look after Woody because he meant the world to Andy but in this movie she shoves him aside for Jesse and when she creates Forky she doesn't care for Woody anymore. That's why I felt confused when you guys brought up well Bonnie will be sad or freaked out when she realizes Woody is missing. Bonnie has already moved on from Woody she doesn't care about him which really upset me because regardless of that Woody was still loyal to Bonnie. So to me they ruined Bonnies character. Woody does try to do the best he can to make his kid happy but in this movie its his story to make him happy. After everything he has done he deserves happiness too and that's where Bo comes in and he can finally move on be happy for him because he can't always be there for his kid they eventually move on and he realizes that he has to also. I enjoyed this movie more than I thought I would but Toy Story 3 is still the best for me. I would give this movie a 8.

Bonnie is four, her mind is not developed enough to understand why Andy said to take care of Woody. Andy could've at least also asked the favor with Bonnie's parents aside from asking it to bonnie herself.

Woody wasn't trying to get rid of buzz, he tried to knock him in between the bed and wall so that Andy couldn't find him and would have to take Woody, him falling out of the window was a complete accident but didn't look like that to the other toys. Moot point I know, but clarifying just in case.

I think I am the minority here by saying that we needed this movie and mostly Woody. Woody's purpose is to serve a kid, make sure they are happy. He did great with Andy and Bonnie. But what happens when in this case Bonnie forgets him. He does not have any meaning anymore. In this movie, Woody grew up as a character by letting Bonnie go.. He served his purpose, now he is free. Staying with Bonnie when she no longer needed him would be painful for him. This is also a lesson for all of us. To let go people that don't care about us anymore. Stop that emotional dependency

This one was always meant to be the wrap up of things not wrapped up in _Toy Story 3._ It's not necessary to those who don't care what happened to Bo Peep or whether Woody always needs to be there for Andy. But it's also a completion for Woody's larger arc: Toy Story 1 - Coming to terms with not being the focus- Learning that you won't be the focus forever. Toy Story 2 - Realizing things will someday end. Toy Story 3 - Letting go when the fun ends. Toy Story 4 - Finding where you fit in when the familiar is over.

I always love your reactions. I'm probably in the minority, but I feel like Woody moving on give closure to his character. Bonnie is little enough that she probably doesn't give Woody missing very much thought since she won't see them. And the movie showed that Woody wasn't Bonnie's favorite toy, it was Jessie and Buzz. She might remember Woody if she sees him (or another Woody toy) again. My kids had toys they never thought about, that had been shoved into the garage. This gave Tom Hanks a way out of the movies in case they wanted to make more. I took my family to the Halloween party at California Adventures last year and dressed up as Elvis to embarrass them. All the young kids there thought I was dressed up as Duke Kaboom and all the older folks knew I was dressed up as Elvis. LOL.

The ending is admirable when you really think about Woody's circumstances through all the movies. Thinking about movies 1-3: Woody consistently was on a mission to help another toy and it was like a calling passion. He already went through the entirety of Andy's experience and remained loyal until the end, but they made it very clear that it was time for him to be free and continue pursuing his passion of helping other toys and reuniting with someoen he's loved. It was sad and fitting at the same time. A form of growth :)

Initially I didn't like the ending, it did feel a bit wrong but I feel like Woody was about the loyalty all the way through, as he was always looking out for Bonnie. He got Forky back for her but knew Forky was what she needed, not him, he'd already been left in the cupboard and relegated from Sheriff status. He knew he had done his best by Bonnie but realised he was no longer needed so took a chance at some fun for himself. I think the main way they did Woody dirty was having Bonnie cast him aside to start with! But seeing as they did, I think Woody staying with Bo makes sense.

I really like this one , I don’t understand the hate , yes we didn’t get much of the secondary characters like Jessie and that but I really enjoyed seeing woodys story finish as he’s finally put himself first and not on his owner , number 3 finished his and Andy’s story line and 4 focused more on woody , woody is still loyal as she’s putting his trust in the other toys while previously he didn’t really share that responsibility but he’s done character growth and Bonnie is in the best hands. but definitely should be no more 🤣 4 is enough

I really really enjoyed Toy Story 4..... you have to also remember that for a film company to make FOUR movies/sequels in a row that are ALL good and that don't drop the ball all that much is super super rare. Usually the third film is "ok" and normally the second one is weaker than others. So for Pixar to make four awesome movies in a row is such a great achievement. Definitely hats off tp Pixar for making such an awesome series. I know this opinion might be unpopular, but I love all of these Toy Story movies and Pixar knocked everything out of the park with these. Love it, love it, love it. :)

31:22 It was stated in the movie that Woody just stays in the closet the entire time. She doesn't play with him anymore. That was shown in the beginning when she took his badge for Jessie and then dropped him. And it was brought up again when Forkie was talking with the "villain" doll. I think the whole point of Woody staying behind is that Bonnie's already forgotten about him. She didn't really care about him anymore. So him being gone wouldn't really be noticed at all.
@02Raul434
@02Raul434 7 месяцев назад
I initially agreed about the opinion that Woody not ending up with Bonnie wasn’t the best choice but I think it was. Also, this was Woody’s movie. Woody always had a purpose. He was always loyal to the kid but he also loyal so he can continue to do his job and make the kid happy. But Woody no longer served a purpose because he was forgotten by Bonnie. She always leaves him left behind and gains dust. Woody’s new purpose as we saw the mini montage at the end that he helps toys get a kid. Find a new home. I don’t think Toy Story 4 did anything wrong.

Bonnie didn't care about woody anymore, I get that he felt very weird especially since he used to be the favorite toy for the majority of his life. What doesn't click for me is that he preferred to be a "lost toy" rather than to try and find another kid that would need him. That's just not woody-like. Plus as Holden said, imagine how andy would feel when he finds out that Bonnie "lost" his favorite toy that he never intended to give her.

I enjoyed Toy Story 4 more than most people but i understand your points and they are very valid. The ending feels like it goes for emotional shock value. And while it worked for me, i understand why it didn't for others. TS4 very much feels like an epilogue, a conclusion for Woody's story. Hopefully 5 features the rest of the gang a bit more and is more narratively satisfying.

In my personal opinion, Toy Story 4 was even more of an emotionally satisfying conclusion to the series than the 3rd one. While I still think 3 is amazing, I personally felt 4 was probably the most Woody-centric since 2 and how the film goes about executing his character arc along with the relationships he’s had with Buzz, Bo, Jessie, the other toys he’s known along the way, all while learning to let go and live a happy life, as well as helping toys like Forky and Gabby Gabby learn what it’s been like for him to be loved by a kid. It’s genuinely a beautifully-told film from all angles.

This movie wasn’t wanted but definitely was needed. Woody having to accept and make a new purpose for himself. He thought he needed to take care and be loyal to a kid to be happy. When he didn’t have that he was lost. Having found Bo his love interest he found a part of something that he let go a long time ago because he stayed loyal to Andy. While Woody doesn’t have a kid to be loyal to now he is definitely loyal to Bo and to helping other Toys find kids. That is what they were implying by the end of the movie that Woody found a new purpose helping other toys find homes and kids and he also got to be with his love interest. At the end when one of the characters says “he’s a lost toy” and Buzz even understands now that he is in fact not lost but found. So I really do enjoy this movie and I accept it even if it’s a hard pill to swallow it’s healthy. I wonder what will be the storyline for the 5th movie tho and that is what’s scary right now.

Idk if i said this on one of the other videos or not, but one of my very very first memories is standing in line for Toy Story, and the line went all the way outside the theater. I was apparently sick and threw up in line, which i don't remember, and we had to leave and go back later that night. I don't even remember seeing the movie, but i remember the parking lot and seeing the line, and it being Toy Story. TOY Story 2 i was a teenager and I loved it, but when Toy Story 3 came out, ON my birthday, that was a big event for me personally, to go see that in theaters 20 years later. And it did not let me down. Sadly, I really feel like things peaked with 3, at least for me personally. 4 and 5 are decent but 1-3 really drove it home for me. That being said, i friggin LOVE Sporky 😅

I agree it was an odd choice to have Woody go rogue at the end, but it seemed like he made a whole operation to get those toy prizes to kids, and was able to make a bunch of kids and toys happy. So for me, it still feels like he is child-centric, just not in the way of being the child's favorite toy, he was helping kids find their new favorite toys. I do think TS2 was prob the best, TS1 has the nostalgia aspect, and TS3 was the most emotional; but I think this was a decent send off for Woody, it seemed like he was sort of passing the torch, and Bonnie was already sort of keeping Woody aside while she played with other toys, so I think this was a good route for him to go to wrap him up, he spent so many years being a kid's favorite toy, now he can be happy with Bo while helping other toys find homes.

The part you and some people missed is that after being loyal for so long Woody is relegated to the closet, he isn't even played with anymore. By this point he gets to live for himself, he's already helped kids and other toys so much, he's a hero and nobody wants him to finally relax and have what he wants, which in this case is the life with Bo Peep that got ripped away from him, and he didn't go with her once already because of that loyalty. There's loyalty that serves a purpose and loyalty to a fault, and when the outcome is so damaging to ones own life, Woody can put the altruism aside FOR ONCE to have his own happy story

I can never look at anything I know the same way again. This video represents emotions that most humans could never understand. But I can. Thanks to this video I was awakened to many things previously considered unimaginable. Thank you for this exquisite video, I will never forget this experience.

But here's the thing, like they said in the movie, she didn't really care for woody anymore. She wanted Jessie to be sheriff and just left woody in the closet. She has forky and all the other toys, so after 20 years of service woody decided that she'd be fine without him and he didn't have to be miserable but they both could be happy separately. Andy and woody was special, Bonnie moved on from woody, so he did too (since she'd be ok without him)

Andy cared about Woody as much as Woody cared about Andy. Unfortunately Bonnie didn’t care much about Woody, so Woody didn’t feel like he had as much of a role.

Toy Story 4 is my favorite. I think it makes perfect sense that the next part of the story would be Woody making a choice for Woody. He *had* been relegated to the closet after all... He made sure Bonnie was OK. It was time.

I think 3 was about letting go as Andy’s toys and 4 was more about Woody letting go of the group and the need to belong to a kid…both 3 and 4 had me in my feels at the end but I agree 3 was my favorite…the shorts are kinda awesome too

You know. Another great animated film to look up and watch is The Brave Little Toaster. It came out before Toy Story and it deals with all appliances, not toys, but if you like Toy Story you would like The Brave Little Toaster. It's similar where you have these appliances that are alive and go on an adventure to find their owner.

the voice actor for Mr. Potato Head had died prior to the making of the film so that kind of pushed the idea that if we can't have him be an integral part then the rest of the side characters shouldn't be that integral either.

I’d rank them 3,2,4,1. However, none of that is bad. All 4 of them are fantastic. There’s no such thing as a bad Toy Story movie.

I believe they should have ended it in TS3, TS2 is also a good ending. I hope in whichever is the last, Woody returns to Andy and become Andy's kid's toy. One of the reasons that this didn't completely work for me is Andy's absense. Andy never wanted to give away his toys in the first place, Andy's kids are the way to go but maybe it's just me.

This may be a bit of unpopular opinion, but this is my take on Woody leaving with Bo at the end. Woody's best quality is his loyalty, its why we love him, but your loyalty to someone should never come at the expense of your own happiness. Woody may have loved and cared for Bonnie, but it was very clear from the beginning of the movie she favored other toys over him. Had Woody gone back with Bonny, i think the only thing awaiting him would've been a very unfulfilling life in the closet until he probably gets donated one day since she just wouldn't play with him anymore. Woody wasnt needed anymore, Bonnie would be happy and fine without him, and now Woody can still make children happy, by giving lost toys a new home.

I completely agree with everything yall said. I do enjoy this movie and there is some great moments but Toy Story 3 had a PERFECT ending. The series should have ended there. Woody staying behind was a bad twist, it damages the touching moment where Andy gives Woody to Bonnie, and like you mentioned, Bonnie herself would be devastated that Woody was missing and they never touched on that in the movie. I did have fun with this movie but its definitely the lowest ranked movie of the series.

Also, this movie turns Buzz into an idiot who needs his voice box to come up with plans, even though in the previous movies, he was the one who always came up with quick and clever solutions. I also hate how this movie tries to imply Bonnie lost interest in Woody, yet we literally see her play with him and she has only neglected him three times since Andy gave him to her. Worst of all, Forky being alive completely breaks the rules of the Toy Story world since he is not a toy.
@silentassason
@silentassason 7 месяцев назад
@@vetarlittorf1807oh right because there's that toy story bible that came out that has explicit rules as to what constitutes a "toy" and that they are only given life in factories

@@silentassason Forky is not a toy. He's a spork given googly eyes and pipe cleaner arms. If that's enough for him to be alive, then literally any inanimate object should come to life if they're given googly eyes. Furthermore, the toys being surprised by this makes no sense because there's no way Andy never brought home an arts and crafts project from kindergarten. How does Forky even know to freeze when humans are around? And before you say anything, the reason Buzz knew to freeze in the first movie is because he thinks it's part of the toys' culture to freeze when their leader is present. Forky, however, has no reason to do that.
