What an amazing piece of equipment! I could sit and watch that process all day! So very interesting! Thanks for sharing this part of your life! Very much enjoyed this video! Fifty years is quite an accomplishment! Congratulations to Stokes! I realized how important having great people to call on with our ambulance service when my late husband had a seizure. I had no idea what a person looked like when they had a seizure. I just never experienced this before in my life. I kinda thought he was having a stroke. Long story short we found out a mass on his brain caused it. Diagnosis was glioblastoma which is brain cancer. The worst possible diagnosis. He lived two years and had three brain surgeries during that time bc the tumors grew back every six months. He’s been in heaven four years now. I’m in no hurry but I will join him one fine day. Reason I’m in no hurry…we have six of the sweetest grandchildren a Gigi and Pop pop could have. Just wish he was here to meet the four he never met.
Hello Chuck and Saundra, I recently started watching another RU-vid channel called Gierok Farm. They are in Wisconsin and they do a lot of sawmill work. They may also be a good resource for information about sawmills and tools needed. I’m sure you have tons of people who want to try to help out, I know how hard it is to learn any new machine being a machine operator of many types throughout my career. Great job on learning a new skill and even trying to learn a skill as tough as a sawmill. Keep making mistakes and learning, my friend, it’s the only way to make anything worthwhile
Hi Chuck- I love watching your videos ! Somehow , even though I have no intention of ever sawing logs or even learning how to- I watched it all the way to the end and enjoyed every minute of it ! Thanks for the work you do in putting these together !
Ear plugs, safety glasses, tape measure, gloves, manual and 00steel wool. Enjoy your sawing while smelling that fresh sap and sawdust. My favorite thing to do is operating my LT35.
Since a small electric chainsaw has already been mentioned, I'll add a metal detector. It can be hard to find the source of iron staining before you hit it without one.
Your debarker hardly touched the log you were sawing. Also, if I recall correctly, Nathan runs a window washer fluid in his lubrication tank. This keeps his from freezing which it sounded like you were saying at one point.
With such a new saw mill I can't believe you are having so many issues with it. I understand that they need maintenance from time to time but not as much as your dealing with. Not saying that it's your fault but the word "lemon" comes to mind in this situation. But maybe I'm wrong, I don't own one. I was looking into getting a saw mill but I think I'm going to do a whole lot of more research before I do go ahead and get one.
We run a small farm near Charlottesville, Virginia, and do local delivery as well. Do those black bags you are using serve as coolers only or do you provide those to the customer with their order? They look really nice. Great video and after all the contraptions and structures we’ve built on the farm, milling is a skill I wish I had. Thanks for sharing!
Snap on and Mac tools are a waste of money unless you're getting some sort of specialty tool I worked nine years in the auto business and all that I used was craftsman guaranteed for life replacement if they break hardly ever broke anything I may have got one or two tools replaced in nine years and that's just how much I worked in the auto business I worked in cars and motorcycles most of my life until I got tend to say this in both arms i'm pulling wrenches too much now I don't touch wrenches lots of tools sitting in the shop rusting away
I just love you guys to death. When you look up down to earth in the American language dictionary, there is a picture of you two. :) I don't think she's just excited about the whole social media thing as you are lol. I don't blame her but it's necessary evil apparently. Anyhow I have an extremely small 3-acre Homestead in Southeast Missouri, my name is dakota, and it is very nice to meet you. - if you ever need anything just holler at me. I raise Rex meat rabbits, American Bresse chickens, Ayam Cemani chickens, I have a few pygmy goats, a flock of annoying but very entertaining guineas, and a flock of Muscovy that I just absolutely love. I raised Quail as well and I am almost true blue raising Celadon layers. I also raised pyrenees, dane, and Great Pyredanes for service and LGD work. I very much enjoy y'all's videos, thanks for the entertainment and try not to work too hard. -😊
By the way, I suppose I will mention that part of why I find you guys so uplifting, is that I am a 57 year old single disabled woman, and anything that gets done here gets done by me. The animals the gardens cleaning the house emptying Quail pans or mowing the yard it all gets done by me. And I have no City water and septic, not even a well. If it falls from the sky it's fair game. Otherwise I just sit here and watch everything die lol. So I really enjoy videos by strong hard-working self-sufficient people like yourself. 😊
