Lesson from this situation - if something like that happens - film and record everything, every word of everyone.

I have heard this about Easter Island. We lived in Argentina for 3 years and most of our friends had horrible experiences on this Island. It's sad.

Damn I kept reading about Felipe on reviews and question sections on Google and I assumed it was a Karen situation but holy shit this is crazy! He should NOT work there... Or be in any public authority position

I visited Easter Island on Google Earth and Phillipe asked me for my ticket 😭

The damage control methods like the “fake lawsuit”, “false injury” and “extortion” claims are proof enough that you shouldn’t visit here as they are completely out of touch with tourism and staff interactions with guests.

It’s quite clear to me that Felipe wanted to create a situation in order to get a bribe from you. I can’t believe he lied about Kathy climbing the large stone. You guys handled the situation very well, with great manners.

Omg! I was there in 2002. There was no entry fee, there was no barrier stones. You could walk right up to the statutes. My experience was magical. Everyone was very friendly.

Your instincts and how quickly you can assess a situation and determine how to react is phenomenal. Suss’ing out he wanted to tear your tickets up and making the u-turn on the road saved a bad situation from turning into a very bad one. He was so confident about everything he did, so he’s done this before and knows he has plenty of backup.

Tough story to share Christian but you did the right thing by posting this video. These sort of experiences can be hard to overcome but don’t let these people bring you down. Actually, I think you’ve proved it here that you won’t let that happen. Keep doing what you love, and what we love watching.

The staff in that island is So RUDE!!! My relatives traveled over there last year and said it was the worst travel ever

Unfortunately these kind of places don’t award justice for right and wrong, the judge, the jailer, the police, the lawyers, the doctors too, there is no deep water, they are all family. Your frustration with lack of accountability is totally just, but don’t expect resolution.

This makes them sound corrupt. One place we surly wont visit. Thanks for the heads-up and the truth.

As a Chilean this is so embarrassing, I’m really sorry this happened to you. I visited Easter Island in April 2019, and during that time they had an issue among the two groups in the Island the parks were technically free entrance “ HOWEVER” at the park entrance you had the opposite group charging. I truly believe this guy wanted to destroy your ticket. I have heard of other people just trespassing during the time of the conflict in 2019 but they were never treated this way. Calling your girlfriend an idiot is unimaginable, he definitely wanted to fight you so glad you were clever enough to avoid it. Sadly locals are not very friendly, logically there were a few exceptions of nice islanders but the friendliest people were from the continent. I hope this goes away and I thank you for making this public.

Massive respect for the way you handled this and to keep your calm, takes a massive amount of patience and self control to not knock this dude flat on his ass.

I was watching your vids as I fell asleep and I woke up to this video playing and hearing “I need the ticket” over and over in my sleep until I finally woke up. This was a nightmare experience for you but it was a literal nightmare for me. And I don’t mean this figuratively 😂 this dude really woke me up from a sound sleep

Sorry you both had that horrific experience and thanks for sharing - I rely on videos like these to make educated decisions on where and how to travel. I spent a month in Southern Chile/Patagonia and had a great experience with park rangers and tourism industry. Doubling down instead of issuing a simple apology would've spared so many people unnecessary grief.

What I learned from this upsetting story, is that the well mannered doggie walking around, showed better behavior and was calmer than the pesky park guard, while watching how he was assaulting tourists visiting Easter Island. Thank you for posting this video, now I know what place in the planet not to visit!

I would send this to the US Embassy so they are able to issue a warning for tourists at Easter Island. I would also send it to the Chilean Diplomat in Washington, DC. Warn everyone how dangerous it is to visit Easter Island.

I haven’t felt this unsettled and upset because of a video in a very long time. Definitely enough for me not wanting to visit Easter island as long as people like them are in charge. All the best to you Kathy and you Christian to fight through this nonsense!

Wow. I was literally just tossing up between Easter Island and French Polynesia.... This made the decision easy.

this is an old tactic...pressure you enough to be scared and offer him a healthy bribe. His boss probably told him to get your tickets so they can put you in jail for trespassing...all for a huge bribe!

So the park rangers of Easter Island are extorting and blackmailing tourists for money.

I hate people like this, bullying a couple that’s thousands of miles away from home and no one with them, just trying to have a fun time and they do this. If this can happen to them then it can happen to anyone going there and probably has many of times before, only difference is Christian has a voice that can be heard and a platform that can be seen by many others. I feel sorry for others that has been harassed by these bullies. I definitely won’t be going there anymore, until they face the consequences of their actions (losing tourists) and make a change in staffing and governance of the park.

I wrote to the Chilean Embassy here, asking them what they had done about this. I've not heard a word back, so can only assume they are happy with the idea that my tourist dollars will be going to other islands. Easter Island is well and truly off my bucket list. Well done, Felipe ... and thanks for saving me a lot of money and probably a couple of doses of jetlag.

Many Google Maps reviews on Easter Island mentioned that Felipe is still there and ruining everyone’s experience-so much so that I thought it was a Filipe troll-thanks for posting this video and clearing that up. Kudos for reacting the way you did. I probably would’ve gotten myself in a lot of trouble but Filipe wouldn’t be bothering anyone after-besides asking for tickets at the gates of Hell. Good learnings
