I heard these speakers last year at an high end audio show, and they raised a lot of eyebrows because they were just phenomenal!!! There were set up in a very large room and filled the room with, surprisingly, some of the best sound of the entire show. They sound marvelous in your room as well. My Revel Salon 2 speakers are my "forever" speakers, but because I like to listening to my music at lower to moderate listing levels, I could certainly live with these speakers for a long, long time.
Interesting. I had the LX521.4 and love them! However, occasionally, I like listening loudly with low bass and so I upgraded to the Salon2 as well and it is my forever speaker! I've over Wilson Sashas and they are not in the same league as the Salon2.
Hi Shane, Did you look into DSP for time alignment of bass/mid/treble ? Will you be using measurements in Paul’s room and once measured implement DSP before the ASP (which is cascaded/passive) ? It is the step I haven’t (yet?) taken with my LX521.4 system.
Hi Frank, No, we hadn't thought of DSP for the system. I guess it's something that we might look at. I am a believer that it will help with room modes, although I must say Paul has a very big room so I'm just concentrating on getting speaker setup right, and all the racks built and components installed and isolated as we have stack audio isolation for all of the components as well as platforms for the LX 521's to sit on with Stack Audio ulva 70s screwed into the platform. I'll be heading up there in a week's time, and there will be lots of video of all of that in the current series. I have a mini DSP shd that I could probably take up with me and hook up. That might be interesting. I don't use it in my system at the moment, so let's see what happens, we might do that. You've given me an idea.👍🙂🎧
Enjoying your insights. I wish I could afford the playback designs dac. Big fan of OCD Mikey....more chips less fluff. Love that Rotel Michi pre power off to the left in shot. I like wilson speakers but I'm more a vintage JBL Altec EV guy...ide go ATC or PBN montana if money wasn't an issue. These speakers look interesting...hope to hear them at the Next Sydney show if someone is willing to show them.
Thanks for your comments. I really appreciate you posting your thoughts 🙏 There's lots of interesting stuff coming up, so l hope you stick around and keep enjoying the content. 👍🎧😁
With my very limited ability to analyze with my ear buds, I've been going back and forth between your Wilsons and the Linkwitz. What I can hear is that initially the Wilson's sound more full, rich, elegant and engaging. On the flip side the Linkwitz seem to be a little more refined, articulate leaving more separation of instruments. On one hand, I find my self wanting another decible of bass with the Linwitz. On the other hand, with the Wilson's I find that I can hear a hint of smear/resonants from the cabinets. Either way there seems to be a comprimise. Ohhh if the 521's could add just a little more bass. That might be audio nervana.
I guess the first thing that needs to be said here is that you are listening through RU-vid which is a compressed audio medium but most of what you describe where the Linkwitz are concerned is pretty close to being on the mark. Well observed. Where the Wilsons are concerned being set up in a much closer to perfect position for my room, there's just more of everything. More refinement more lower octave more air in the upper frequencies in the mid-range is mind-boggling. The only thing I would say is that the sound stage is not quite as wide but certainly as deep and even a little higher with the Wilsons. And I can really push the Wilson's to a higher SBL if i need to or feel in the mood to. When I am doing critical listening, I'm normally hovering around 78 to 82 db, and the Linkwitz speaker systems handle that without any problem at all. Thanks for your observations it shows you're really listening👍🎧🙂
Question: LINKWITZ LX521 is a four way speaker. You have twin quad power amps. Makes sense. So why does Linkwitz website say ten amplifiers are needed??
I heard the Linkwitz LX521.4 speakers last year (11/23) at Capitol Audio Fest in the US and was suitably impressed! Thanks for your objective, balanced and comprehensive analysis. How do they sound at low listing levels(70-80 db)?
All, thanks for your question. Yes, they are still very nice at the lower listening levels. They just don't quite do the big sound stage party trick they do from around 78 db and above.
Hi there, They came as a flat pack kit from Linkwitz in Germany. I assembled all of the cabinetry and made a few modifications around how the Binding posts work.
@@shanestephenson8423 they have powerbox amplifier(&XO) and A2 crossover, if one has to buy powerbox 6pro that means he doesn't need to buy separate A2 crossover?
@@naren.freak1c We have OAD ultra fidelity Bespoke 4 channel monoblock amplifiers that Jon of OAD built especially for these speakers. And we're using the external crossover from Linkwitz. 👍
