In this video I talk about my Yataghan Sword Bayonet for the M1866 Chassepot Needle-Fire French Rifle. I also talk about how I used in one of my teachings in Sunday School. You can find that one by going to my youtube channel called: "ROBERT BREAKER." The Title is: "The 7 World Wars." Here's the link to that video: • The 7 World Wars

That bayonet was captured by the Prussians and used by them for the remainder of the war and possibly during the first world war. There were quite a few of these. You can tell this is one of them based on the marking on the scabbard of the bayonet, they're German markings not French. I have one of these captured Chassepot bayonets myself. The way to read yours is it was assigned to the 113th Landwehr Battalion, 2nd Corp, Company 2 Rifle#185. The scabbard is not the original one to the sword. No biggie as many antique ones you buy these days aren't kept together (sword and scabbard). Captured Chassepot bayonets had scabbards modified with a tear drop shaped clip and also stamped with the same markings as the hilt of the sword. The serial number on the scabbard follows the French serial # format.

Probably captured during the Franco-Prussian war, 1870.

Sunday school. I remember it well. Kool aid and cookies was the only good thing about it.

I just picked the same bayonet up at a flea market . And yeah it has a chrome handle on it as well .Chrome is in good condition too.
@knivesarecoolandaxestoo2946
Wow! What'd you pay for it. Where was it made? What year? I think you can go to www.bayonets.com and look up in the identification to know more.

@@knivesarecoolandaxestoo2946 Here in NZ I paid the equivalent of 70 US dollars . That's without scabbard . Blade was also quite badly etched with acid from rust removal probably . I have since very successfully polished up the blade and revealed all the markings that couldn't be seen when I purchased it . ON the spline is written Eulle somthing 1872. On the guard there is a type of cross with what looks like 11 B 5 . It's hard to make out.

Interesting bayonet Mr. Breaker! Ian at Forgotten Weapons (a great RU-vid channel) has a series of videos on the Chasspot rifles, and a really great book on the French rifles from Chasspot to current, highly recommended. Lastly it's actually pronounced phonetically "Shass-poe".

I did see those videos by Ian. Yes, he knows his stuff! I wasn't aware it's pronounced that way, but makes sense, as the "t" on the end is usually silent in French! Thanks!

Very cool, but it was absolutely not used on horse back. It's a sword bayonet, so whilst it can be used in hand to hand, it's main purpose was to be attached to the end of an infantrymans rifle. It isn't long enough to be used by cavalry and, owning 2 myself, I can tell you that the back of the grip makes it very uncomfortable for use in hand for any length of time

"Intricacies, very complicated or detailed" is the word....I make video too and often have brain farts with my mouth and mind. Making videos and the whole process builds certain strengths which I tend to think helps to keep parts of your brain active and provide mental exercise.

Awesome sword Pastor. I would love to watch some more fishing videos with your family. Some shots on how to use the cast net would be great. Thank you Sir👍👍👍

He does have some fishing videos using his various sized nets on his main channel. Robert made those several years ago so you may need to scroll through quite a few videos to find it. He also has other interesting and fun videos on his main as well.
