Hey Shelbi! I really enjoyed this video. In my laundry routine we have an Ecoegg, which is a bamboo pod containing eco washing powder ball, and then I just chuck it in the electric machine. We also tend to use the washing line, but our heating company is quite good and responsible toward the planet. Keep up all thse awesome videos :)

Someone wrote a review saying that Dropps releases bad ingredients into water. I haven't had a chance to look into that (still using up my EcoNuts). Do you have any insights into that?
@bonniea8189

Also, while the microplastic filter is obviously the most comprehensive, I'd like to hear you talk about the Guppy Friend bag. That and the CoraBall were the only options I found for coin-op laundry users, and the CoraBall didn't do well in tests comparing it against the dedicated filters.

It really shouldn't be an issue since they are already including catches for small items that slip through (ie rings) and you have to clean grime from those filters monthly anyways for maintenance of the machines.

Hi Shelbi! I live in Tokyo and there’s a sustainable store called ecostore which has a refill system so you don’t have to buy the plastic packaging that comes with liquid detergent, hand soap, etc. They recently expanded their locations to have them at convenience stores(they are everywhere in Japan) so it’s more accessible! I just wanted to share :) Thank you for your videos!!

Dryer balls are a LIFE CHANGER. Regular dryer sheets severely decrease the longevity of your clothes and obviously create waste for our environment.
@sophiehatter525
@sophiehatter525 3 года назад
How do they decrease the longevity of your clothes?
@xkristixx
@xkristixx 3 года назад
They contain chemicals that adhere to your clothes and also the dryer. These chemicals aren't always fully disclosed or regulated for safety. This makes the material of your clothes not as strong as it used to be, as well as makes towels less absorbant over time. I've also personally experienced this; I used to use dryer sheets all the time since that's just what my family did and my husband did not. I would wonder why my clothes would easily get holes in them and his shirts would last several years. The common factor were the dryer sheets I was using.
@jakethespoopycat
@jakethespoopycat 3 года назад
In addition to that, I have sensory issues and I CAN NOT handle the texture of dryer sheets, so the balls are a much better option for me overall

Do your own laundry - start incorporating sustainable things in your life now. Even if you still live at home, you can make that effort.
@kaylawaters2691
@kaylawaters2691 3 года назад
@@MichaelaBourbeau I think so too. The main way to control what you use and buy is to have a job/your own money to be able to make sustainable swaps. Can't control what others do (believe me, I understand, am in the same situation, and it can drive you crazy lol) but having your own income will help.
@logtube12
@logtube12 3 года назад
@@kaylawaters2691 Yeah, I'm doing the best with what I can do. Cleaning dishes instead of using disposables, using cloths instead of napkins or paper towels, bringing my own silverware to restaurants , etc.. When we got married we registered for an over the door drying rack, and we absolutely love it! At the time we lived in a rental so it was an obvious choice, but even though we own a house now...it’s still amazing because we don’t have a ton of wall space in a convenient location to our laundry! Thought I would put that our there for anyone who could use that info!

I use a drying rack and then when my cloths are dry, I put them in the dryer, with wool balls. I put my dryer on air tumble, so there is no heat, it just turns and the balls soften my cloth. It only take 5 min. This was indispensable when I used flat cloth diapers for my kids and I wanted to have supple fabric to be able to fold the diapers. I will look into those pods, they look great, I hope they ship to Canada for a resonable price.

stainless steel wherever possible. I use a stainless steel litter box, stainless steel bowls and natural non clay clumping litter. Unscented! (better for the environment and for my kitty). I also have a metal litter scoop with a wooden handle, bamboo handled natural brush (although she wont let me brush her), ceramic cat fountain, canned food vs bagged dry food (better for them anyway). Fabric carry bag (still has some plastic zips and buckles though.) All of these items do cost more up front, but will save you so much in the long run since they should last much longer than their plastic counterparts. Good luck.

- I've heard the same thing about soap nuts and won't be buying them again. - I'm glad you didn't find something wrong with the laundry strips. I got them for my mom for Christmas to try. She does small loads and she can cut them in half versus the pods. - I wash everything in cold water. Even towels and sheets! I also use the dryer on my shirts and pants for about 10 minutes to get the wrinkles out and then hang them to dry. We have a long shelf/pole combo and I put my clothes right on hangers and hang them spaced out so they stay nice - we use wool dryer balls but they have little fuzzies and hair on them now. Should I use a defuzzer on them?

I have been using Dropps and absolutely loved them too! However, my laundry unit is in a shed outside so during hot Louisiana summers the pods STICK TOGETHER. I could have just stored them inside the house, but honestly do not have any more extra space inside for that but do have a lot of empty shelf space in the laundry room. So I gave Blueland tablets a go and they are wonderful too! So that's another option.

Dropps are such a great option! I rent so I’m using the Cora Ball and the Guppyfriend bag. 😊 They’re great!

I am moving into a place with no dryer, so that dryer rack is going to be a lifesaver! I used to hang dry my stuff but some materials got really stiff if it didn't get machine dried

regarding a dryer: my mom looooooves drying her clothes in the dryer. going so far, that even when it is 30-35°C outside in the summer she will put it in the machine altough it dries way faster outside or in the flat on a rack... i never had an dryer since i moved out and i never had problems even in winter to let my clothes just dry on a foldable rack in my flat. there are also super cute wooden racks available here germany at least. thanks for your video!

I just discovered an alternative to official microfiber filters. Most of the sustainable ways mentioned in the video cost quite a bit up front and I have a mini laundry machine so they wouldn't be particularly useful anyway. I just wanted to share that I tried using one of the reusable produce bags I have that has a really small weave and just tied it to the end of my washer's hose, and it trapped a surprising amount of fibers from my laundry. It'll now serve double duty as produce bag and laundry filter.

I work at Old Navy, and I got the okay to take hangers home. I ended up buying nice velvet hangers to keep in my closet, but I buy too many clothes. Breaking that habit lol. So, I keep the stuff I don't wear often in the closet with the nice hangers, and my work clothes and other non work appropriate stuff I wear frequently on a rolling rack with the plastic hangers. When I do my laundry, I stretch em out a bit to reduce wrinkling and use the plastic hangers on the drying line to save space.

I went with the dropps to because I already subscribed to their dishwasher tabs and I liked that they're carbon neutral. I was c really interested in the tru earth sheet or the well earth good sheets though just because of how little space b they take up; maybe but I ever need to travel 🤔 so interested in your indoor garden! I want to grow some food but I only have a tiny apartment or tiny balcony.

Definitely going to look into the cora ball, I live in an apartment so I just use coin op laundry machines so I can’t install a filter or anything. When I run out of liquid detergent that I already have I think I’ll try out drops. :)

LOVE LOVE LOVE your presence on this earth! I do have a question though. I've seen recently some concerns about pod style products because of what the are made from. Too my understanding, I thought they were made from a type of plastic. It'd be so cool of you could speak on this 😊💛😋

So I'm about empty on my last plastic bottle of laundry detergent, and I'm tempted to try some of yours zero waste laundry routines. I never had a good use of powder laundry detergent in a box I'm going to use see if your suggestions. FYI thinx underwear you recommended is my favorite thing to use now! I hang it up to dry.

I also did the math on TruEarth and thought it was just too expensive. I did find similar sheets at the store for $0.22 a load and like them. However, I’m moving somewhere with a dishwasher, so I’m considering drops once the sheets are done. Thanks for the info on these and why you chose what!
