this video shows the vast differences in mycelium between mushroom species - look closer and observe the characteristics of each variety. How can this be used to improve the cultivation process for each mushroom type? MUSHLOVE - to purchase our living mycelium cultures visit our ETSY shop Freshfungi www.etsy.com/s...

getting to see the diversity in mycelial phenotypes is definitely one of the things i love best about growing a variety of fungi. i like to clone specimens i find in the wild, even if they don't have any (immediate) practical use. my current favorite is Hydnophlebia chrysorhiza, which has blaze-orange mycelia that form thick rhizomorphs and grow so aggressively that my original clone came from a rhizomorph i found in the soil, tore into a couple pieces, and dropped onto water agar without any attempt at sterile technique; i had a centimeter of new growth coming from each end by day two!

I’ve noticed that. Some have very spiky ryzomorphs. I wish I could come work with you or for you for a week or so. I’m glad I found you on RU-vid you quickly become one of my favorite teachers. I feel smarter every time I listen to you talk and watch you work

are you wanting to do a little science & try mixing up some new experimental batches of substrates ?? sounds like some good winter fun !!!

I read that rhyzomorphic mycelium is kind of a "scout" that looks for nutrients

that makes sense to me! 🙂🍄❤️

Do you have a video that explains the isolation process? I’m also looking for a better explanation on how and why do you make slant tubes

Check out our playlist breeding mushrooms from spores - the first video is isolation of spores ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vsJpjQhsDIM.html

One other question I have for you, do you believe cultivated mushrooms are nutritious and equal to those grown in the wild?
@themyceliumnetwork
@themyceliumnetwork 3 года назад
I would think that a simple organism like fungi would be as equal to wild mushrooms.( minus the bugs adding that little bit extra protein)

Is it true that varing the substrate helps strengthen the growth?
@MalinaImport
@MalinaImport 3 года назад
it will prevent the mycelium from becoming lazy by providing it new material to work with
@FreshfromtheFarmFungi

Yes I agree - we like to use V9 agar for this reason and PDA (potato dextrose)

is it possible to crossbreed oyster and shiitake mushrooms ? I've heard rumors & want to try it
@FreshfromtheFarmFungi
@FreshfromtheFarmFungi 3 года назад
I believe anything is possible - this would require hybridization: a totally different technique then traditional mating of isolate pairs. I may cover some abstract techniques in the future once I have access to the right equipment : ) MUSHLOVE

@@FreshfromtheFarmFungi looking forward to that video !! hope you don't mind but I am not waiting & will try it without any equipment LOL
