This is an awesome new discovery, along with the recent studies using psychedelics for trauma patients. I truly believe we are beginning to scratch the surface to all the benefits and contributions mycelium can change ways we tackle problems.
please tell me this is real and its still a thing and you havent been discouraged because its clearly worth investing in and the world needs you to keep pushing this
Mushrooms can revive the world. Others have been noted to break down plastics and other non-degradable materials. Protein sources..medicine...its a future that is absolutely worth investing in.
If someone could come up with fungus-based materials to replace house insulation and the gunk you put in house slits/cracks, that would be some major accomplishments.
1:34 is he some sort of mix beteeen Dwight Schrute from the office and Bluth from arrested development Jokes aside, I’m a microbiologist and facinated by this
Hi, Nathan. I have a company based in India. We are here trying to make packaging material from mycelium like how you are doing. But we are not able to achieve the expected result. can you help me with this to built a strong material and Iwould like to know what are the ideal conditions to grow mycelium. If there is any other way to contact you I would do that. looking forward to your response. thank you
Baishakhee Jena learn about growing mushrooms and experiment with polypore mushrooms. They are the strongest mushrooms. Any oyster mush is good too because they are easy to grow. Just boil straw, cool put sliced mush mixed in and put in a bag, make into a cube, put in a dark place for a month, when it’s al white put it in the oven to kill the organism, and there you go. Polypore mush mycelium is stiffer so it’s stronger but any organic waste you grow it on works. But in the end the strength will differ from material to material it grows on. Experiment:)
do u have any workshops available for those of us that would like to keep up with mycelium building projects, id like to learn how to make my house out this material asap
Batteries and spaceships? how about affordable housing and gundams? author's note a Gundam can be both a house and a spaceship, as well as battery powered.
when placing the bricks together for a building, is there a sort of adhesive used? Or are the bricks just placed, and the mycelium grows and acts as an adhesive?
i'm studying mycelium for construction and that's something i did not found. No concerns with that though, because mycelium by itself is not strong enough to witstand loads.
Hi Nathan! I recently viewed your post about 10 months ago. Could I ask if there is more to come with a inside look at some stuff you've been able to create? I really love your invention as eco friendly alternative. Is there any advice to do home experiments? I've seen a few tea and yeast experiments but not sturdy. I want to create a diy home bird feeder as a project what can we do? I see you have a family, I thought it would be nice to reach out to another family for some good, reliable help. Thank you for your invention IT WILL make the world a better eco-friendly place to live for all.
when the bricks are still alive you assemble a construction, leave it and they will fuse. then if you dry them out, burn it will die, and hold that monolithic form.
Imagine in the future: Suits made of genetically modified mycelium, regrowing in seconds rather than days. Computer stimuli can direct them to perform any type of growth- shedding, filling damage, thickening into armor, breaking down internally stored materials to administer needed nutrients to wounds etc
This is a stomach-churningly bullshit sales pitch for a technology that has the potential to actually work. I’ve done research on the mycelium & I’m happy the basic idea of it being used for building materials is becoming common knowledge - - but - this Mazda commercial is making a mockery of it Someone sold out
Hi Mr. Nathen, I'm interested in the mycelium based materials. I'm eager to buy them for my research activity, could you please provide me information on how to buy them?
Why should they be from another planet? I mean they are strange but they work perfectly. So can it be used for the street? I mean like concrete slabs so the water can seep away and how much does it Akkumulate heat? Because concrete can accumulate heat an can increase the urban climate (heating Islands)
It depends if you include tar sands, and only an idiot thinks extracting that is a good idea. I don't mean idiot, I mean Trump, well Trump with the Koch brothers hands up his ass controlling his mouth.
I’ve been reading about the work of Paul Stamets and others like him since I was a teenager. I’ve always known that mushrooms could hold the future for our species but when I chose architecture as my profession I was supremely let down by my professors who had no idea what u was talking about. I explained to them that we could grow houses and they looked at me like I was crazy. The construction industry is responsible for 1/3rd of global carbon emissions. This has to change and this is one of the ways we change it. Architecture is a multidisciplinary science and we need to set higher standards for those in school for this profession, the future of out species and all species depend upon it. PS because I took all these “unrelated” classes I’ve run out of student aid money. I quite literally can’t Finnish my degree because I chose to educate myself in more areas than required because I though the bar of expectation should be higher.
