"Mycenaean Center Workshop" is located in the village of Fichti, Peloponnese, not even 4km from the ancient citadele of Mycenae.
In this workshop you can learn about and experience the Mycenaean pottery, but also buy actual replicas of ancient Greek (not necessarily Mycenaean) artefacts.
The workshop-shop offers a variety of activities:
- demonstrations: skilled artisans create replicas of ancient pottery using traditional techniques
- practical pottery classes: visitors create their own "masterpieces" using the potter's wheel
- visiting the workshop: following the stages of making ceramics
- shopping: replicas of handmade Mycenaean pottery and many other souvenirs (statuettes, textiles, decorative objects, jewelry), all bearing the imprint of ancient Greek art
The hosts are very kind and help us to choose the most suitable souvenirs. As far as I understand, purchased products can be properly packaged and shipped via postal services and can also be purchased online.
Very interesting for us was the presentation of the operating of the "Cup of Pythagoras" ("Cup of Justice") invented by the famous philosopher-mathematician (circa 580-495 BC) to distribute the wine equally, any excess leading to the total loss of the drink.
