hi mate, I'm in the middle of a solar job and I have a Eddi to fit to work along side an ecodan. Have you any more information regarding wiring on the ecodan side you could share? It looks like on the wiring diagrams ive seen you just need a two core cable to run between the additional relay and sensor board on the Eddi to the ecodan but unsure where they connect to. cheers

Thanks for the informative video, is the prioritizing only for give energy devices or does it work with other makes of car chargers
@MorzakEV
@MorzakEV 7 месяцев назад
You can only really prioritise between devices that directly communicate, such as all myenergi devices. It’s a sad and disappointing fact in this modern age that these devices do not take to each other. I have caught eyes on a gadget though which can “trick” any device in to prioritising when needed. More on that in the coming months or later this year.

Can't wait to know about that device, better than selling my hypervolt and buying a zappi

Hi. This video was great but could you do a small video about the heat pump side too? I have a joule heatpump and my electrician struggling to wire up eddi to the heatpump. Myuyenergi provided guide, but that does not help with the wiring from the heatpump point of view.
@MorzakEV
@MorzakEV Год назад
I could do, although every heat pump can be different. I did use the guide, but I’m reluctant to post something which could lead people to make errors. It’s actually really critical that whoever makes the adjustment understands it completely as if the get it wrong the legionella cycle won’t run correctly and it could cause serious health risks.
@buscseik
@buscseik Год назад
@@MorzakEV I have contacted the vendor of heatpump, but they are not too pro-active with help. Joule says, they do not know how eddi works, so they can't give support.
@MorzakEV
@MorzakEV Год назад
@@buscseik unfortunately a lot of manufacturers don’t want to support installation of 3rd party products on their hardware. Worse than that though, you will probably find that if it was installed it would void the warranty! So you need to be really careful. I took that risk as mine was 3 years old, and now the warranty has expired, but again, everyone needs to look at this risk themselves.

Great video as a introduction to the Eddi ,I'm completely confused by all the different jargons surrounding the solar /emersion renewable energies, I'm going to have solar and batteries this year do you have any advise as to what I should be asking a installer before going ahead with them allso is there a standard of practice that they have to comply by ,as in gas Safe and corgi but obviously a solar feild if you get my drift. Thanks in advance.
@MorzakEV
@MorzakEV 2 года назад
Yes, the solar installs should all be MCS or HIES accredited. This ensures the installs are guaranteed, even if the install closes business. In terms of questions, you need to make sure the installer has looked at your energy usage going forward and you battery and solar system is sized to meet your needs. A lot of installers will just go for a 4kW solar install because it’s easier to apply to the DNO but this may or may not suit your energy consumption needs.

The jargon is a nightmare, we plan to do more videos on this going forward, but it’s going to take some time.

Great video. I think I have the same ASHP as you (Ecodan) and am getting Solar PV soon, so want to use the Eddi for the hot water as you describe. Is it still heating the hot water tank via the immersion up to say 65 degrees? Ie just the same as it would in a hot water cylinder on a traditional gas boiler? I think this is what you are saying. But that its just a bit more of a complex setup? So when its sunny your hot water tank is mostly going to be at 65 degrees? Also if the legionaires setting comes on every 7 days (say) but the tank has been up to 65 degrees two days ago due to Eddi, does it reset the legionaires cycle (eg 7 days from last time temp got to 65 degrees)?

We love our Ecodan, it’s saving us so much money compared with the alternative options, and it’s perfect with our underfloor heating. Yes, is simply heats the water using the immersion. We installed a temperature probe so we can set the Eddi to heat the water to a specific desired temperature. The legionella cycle still runs at the same frequency as it did before, regardless of whether it’s reached that temperature in-between as this is controlled purely by the Ecodan, and it doesn’t “see” of the Eddi is working or not as such. The reason it’s more complicated is because you need to install the relay board as a bypass for when the legionella cycle kicks in. This is because the Eddi could be damaged if the output side sees a voltage, so the relay bypasses and prevents this.

Hi, Thanks for doing this vid and answering my main question - does the Eddi work with a ASHP, PV Panels and and immersion heater. I've got a follow on question; Is it worth doing?, I can see if you have Gas heating it's a no brainer, but currently our ASHP (Samsung AE120 - 12kW) uses any available generated energy to heat the water as required and my understanding is that it is pretty efficient. So I'm wondering if installing an Eddi which will presumably divert the energy produced by the panels and heat the water, rather than the ASHP doing it, will actually save much money - I'm OK with a fairly long term payback on the costs (7-8 years?) - does that make sense or am I misunderstanding the way these things work (quite likely!) Thanks in Anticipation. Richard
@MorzakEV
@MorzakEV 2 года назад
So the air source uses the energy efficiently to generate heat, and if the panels are generating at the time, it will soak up that excess. The difference with the Eddi is that it actively tracks what would be exported to the grid and captures it in the hot water. The hot water may not necessarily be low enough to trigger the heat pump, but the Eddi captures it instead of exporting it for a much lower price. It’s hard to calculate the benefit, and I hope to do this at some point when I have enough data. Part of the decision was to also save the heat pump from working as much and we have found that it hardly runs in the summer when no heating is required. We also have a good 8kw of panels which really helps.

@@MorzakEV HI I am in a similar situation - about to have a 12kw ASHP installed along with a 9.2kw solar array and 8.2kw battery. We will also have an EV in a couple of months with a zappi charger. Wondering if there is much point in shelling out for an eddi - the renewable electrician thought there wasn't much point although i fits saves money long term on the life of the ASHP may be worth looking at.
@MorzakEV
@MorzakEV 2 года назад
@@commiepinko6 yup, I think it does. The other good thing about the Eddi is that Is the time to charging standard on all cars does not allow vehicle charging under 1 kW. This means early in the morning later in the evening, on the panels are not generating enough to get the Zappi started, The water is heated instead of the energy going back to the grid. This means during the day if your hot water usage is minimal, Then your air source heat pump doesn’t have to work at all saving on that electricity as well as the wear and tear. In my eyes it’s worth it for that alone.

Good video. Could the Eddi be used off peak (Octopus Go) when rates at night are cheaper than gas?
@MorzakEV
@MorzakEV Год назад
Yes, you can schedule the Eddi to come on whenever you want, the same as the Zappi, although if you don’t have solar panels and I’m not planning to get them, there are timer switches that will also do this. It does have the nice interface on the iPhone and android apps though.

@@MorzakEV that’s good to know, thanks. I wonder if using the electric element everyday would reduce the lifespan of the emersion heater or even void the warranty?
@MorzakEV
@MorzakEV Год назад
@@K3Primrose good question. It shouldn’t void the warranty as they’re designed to be used everyday, and generally the life span of immersion heaters is far beyond warranties. Generally it will have a shorter lifetime if it’s used more but then they’re incredibly easy to swap out and cheaper than boilers or heat pumps.

This looks very much like an iboost but more control. My issue has always been my 8kw solar system in the start of autum not actually doing much due to poor light Conditions, saying that if anyone has more than 8 kw system I think bingo. In the winter period I disconnect my 5kw battery pack due to it not charging fully during a poor lit day. Saying this if I could turn back the clock I would not have invested in the battery pack but rather purchased more solar for more surface area in poor light. I love the start of summer free electricity and miles on my ev. But nice unit. Be intresting to see what systems other people have and what they gain and what there thoughts are in the start of winter period.
