The "low resolution" works. It gives you an ethereal appearance and the birds are the perfect accompaniment. This entire performance is hauntingly beautiful.
Excuse the low film resolution and the loud birds. The song is 'I riden så'. There are multiple versions of this old song, my favorite is this one in the style of Gjallarhorn. The instrument is a Mandola.
If I had her look and her amazing voice, I'd constantly wander in forests and sing just so people who walk into the forest can find me and enjoy the moment
People like Myrkur should be employed for that very purpose.Walking in the forest is damned near perfect as it is.Running into someone like her & listening for a couple of songs before going on one's way would make the final touch of beauty.
Funny story, I once decided to go out to a secluded little forest and wander about playing my flute and I soon noticed that there were a LOT of squirrels there. So I made it a daily routine to go there and play to the squirrels. Eventually the squirrels began to get used to my presence and one day a squirrel crawled down from the safety of the trees and reached out his little paw. I put out a finger as well and the squirrel grabbed my finger and we essentially shook hands. I thought this was cool as beans, but apparently someone happened to be wandering by and they saw the whole ordeal happen. A month later, I found out that they went to my high school and they thought they were hallucinating the whole time. I was asked if I was supposed to be some sort of forest nymph or whatnot. I also gained the endearing nickname "squirrel boy".
@@freyasfire1 Serena Myr It sure is! We were taught this song at the morning assembly of my... "free"school (Danish concept, I don't how to translate proper) yay! ^_^ I'm so utterly grateful for having learned these ancient songs at that school!🙏 Especially when knowing what brainless children's music is usually being taught at the conventional schools here! 😅...
That's a swedish song and here is the translation: O, woe is me, woe is me, what do I behold I see my daughter coming to me O, Silibrant spread out her cloak so blue And upon it she did bear two bold baby boys I shall give my father my gray steed So he can ride to the church upon it I shall give my sister my seven golden rings That I have never worn since I was a bride I shall give my brother my small gloves That he shall take with him wherever he goeth One child they took to Freya's baptism The other they took to the hall of Valhalla.
Wow a really useful post! The lyrics are even more beautiful and mysterious than I imagined. But I’m still having a hard time figuring out what the song is about since there seems to be so much symbolism line by line that I don’t understand. Is it about a mother or father saying their daughter had two boys and one died (went to the halls of Valhalla?)
If you watch closely it looks like the cameras picture lags a bit when her head moves, gives a ghostly effect, it makes it look even more like she’s a Nordic spirit out there singing in the forest 😍
My 8 year old son over heard me playing this and said, "is that a Viking singing?" Of all the sounds around him at that point it was your voice in the back ground that caught his attention. You sing with the spirits of our ancestors and the purity of a child's heart could hear it clearly. Thank you for the upload.
Utterly beautiful, enchanting & connecting. The songbirds just add an extra element of natural feeling to the performance. These woodland pieces of traditional European music are truly wondrous. They touch something deep & ancient within my psyche.
Why are there so many comments saying, "What if I heard this in the woods?" Me, I'm headed towards it, because this absolutely peaceful, beautiful and mesmerizing. I would think I must have died and now I was in the after life.

je ne me lasse pas de cette ritournelle, cette atmosphère avec les oiseaux qui accompagnent mélodieusement cette magnifique voix de muse si charmante 💞😍💞
That is interesting, when I bought the first Myrkur Ep back in 2014, I believe that the band was listed as Norwegian. Might have been due to Myrkur was still an Anon and released her material under a pseudonym. I could be misremembering though, and thought that it was a Norwegian project since some lyrics I believe were in norwegian.
That might be, tbh i don't remember much from when she first started making music under Myrkur, but Amalie Bruun is Danish, and it is possible that it was listed as Norwegian because some of the studio musicians were Norwegian, i don't know though, you might be right that it was just to cement the whole anonymous pseudonym since she was fairly well known in Denmark as a model/singer/songwriter specificly making pop music for commercial use, f.ex. she made and recorded the title melody to the Danish version of paradise hotel (or "honey, i think i lost some IQ" as i like to call it)
I do not understand you and I love that so much. Like another world to my eyes and ears...and my heart. Tears and Bewildered..... a woodland fairy perhaps
I don't even understand the language, but your voice emotes in a way that makes my heart ache to hear more. Thank you for sharing your beautiful gift with the world.
hey myrkur, i know this video was posted a year ago, so you might not see this but, I am scandinavian, Norwegian specifically and i am moving to denmark soon. Doing a little research on their culture, i ran into this folk song you sang. I also enjoy making music so i decided to take your song and add strings and such. I dont know your policy on using your voice but i do not profit from videos i make. I just really liked the way you sang this song so i made backround music for it. I wanted to post it and have you to hear! anyways I hope you get this.
Kender du folkemusikstævnet ROD? Prøv det! (if you like folkmusic, try attending the folkmusic camp called ROD in the easter holliday! rodfolk.dk/2019/)
Peaceful! My male intuition (which about is being said is not so powerful as the intuition of women) even says this song brings healing. Btw, lovely how the bird flew over at the end. Thanks for creating. :)
Amazing performance. The atmosphere of the piece is great. In fact, I was wondering if it would be all right with you if I would use samples of this performance and a few others of yours in my music mod for nordic atmospheres for skyrim. The mod will be free, of course. I have also made a sample video which showcases your work in game. If you would like to see how the music is implemented, just shoot me a message.
Adding lyrics to this masterpiece at the end of this comment. But wait, are we not going to talk about the ultimate vocal control here? 🤘 I might be stunned from the blast this song blown me out with by I seriously think I've never heard anyone to be in so much control over his voice. The beautifully subtle but nevertheless absolutely precise tone changes and trills while gliding on the softest and most relaxed tone as possible is just unbelievable. And if you don't know what I'm on about, just play it in your headphones, turn the volume just slightly up than you normally would and concentrate on the unbelievable trill at the end of the last verse at 1:18-1:19 on the first word of the line ("Som"). Oh and in case anyone's looking for the lyrics, here you go 😉↓ A Silibrand körde uppå höga loftessvala Allt under den linden så gröna Där fick han se sin dotter i lunden fara I riden så varliga genom lunden med henne A välest mej, välest mej, vad jag nu ser Allt under den linden så gröna Jag ser min dotter hon kommer til mej I riden så varliga genom lunden med henne A Silibrand fämnar ut kappan så blå Allt under den linden så gröna Där föder hon två karska svenbarnen på I riden så varliga genom lunden med henne Min fader skall jag giva min gångare grå Allt under den linden så gröna Som han skall rida till kyrkan uppa I riden så varliga genom lunden med henne
Sometime earlier this week I listen to this song. Today I had a bit of the music stuck in my head. Could not remember the name, any lyrics, the language, genre, artist, anything. Took me forty minutes to find it. Totally worth it.
