The original series finished in the 70s but they lost the likeness rights back in the 70s too so literally anyone can use the Doraemon image now so a few companies took it on again in the early 2000s. All together there are around 2000 episodes yes but the Tsutomu Shibayama TV Asahi series was has the most with 1787 episodes. The Kozo Kusuba series made for the disney channel is the only network still producing them.
